That is the way to do it! However, most "experts" will tell you that dry burning is a no-no once you get to meltdown temps. Ni and Ti are the ones you're not even supposed to pulse, just stick with slightly spaced coils to eliminate hot spots.I have always been taught that when you first install a newly made coil,(I do not use TI or NI) you should gently pulse it to prepare it for vaping. Ya know, get the hot legs out etc. and by slowly heating the coil until it glows helps to strengthen the form of the wires.
So slowly dry burning the gunk off just as slowly allows the coil to continue to be used. I don't get them so hot that they start to emit their own meltdown. No where near that temp.
