I was at CVS today and the guy in front of me had 3 boxes of Nicorette patch boxes in his basket. I so wanted to ask him if he'd tried vaping. But, just like I do with other stuff (...), I didn't say anything. I feel like a failure :/

I know I spend plenty of $ on vape stuff, but I can't begin to imagine what he must be spending on these things. And they're probably not satisfying his cravings, certainly not the oral fixation habit. :(
I would rather go with patches, they are less harmful than vaping. If the do work for the guy you met, good for him.

May I ask then, why do you vape? Can I safely guess it’s because patches or other cessation methods failed?

I mean, I agree that if it works, it works, and I don’t want to tell anyone else how to live their life.

But I felt that the spirit of the OP’s post was, maybe the patch will do it for this guy and maybe not, and I’d like to suggest the method that worked for me, so that however he quits, he quits.

I’d also venture to guess that most vapers used to smoke, and most smokers tried other cessation methods that failed, or vaping would not be such a big deal.

I have nothing against patches or gum or pills. Except their high failure rates. Safer? How is it safer to go back to smoking?

For the people walking through a store parking lot, I suppose that vehicle exhaust is MUCH worse than a few people exhaling vapor. Cigarettes with their 4000 chemicals are also much worse. It's too bad that some people view vaping as a continuation of something that looks like smoke. You know how it goes. If it looks like a <fill in blank> it must be a <fill in blank>.

It's funny that there are lots of vapers in America and my area has enough vape shops that there's no reason people aren't aware of vaping, yet you don't see people vaping in public much. I get that vaping isn't welcome most places, but letting people see vaping happening is one of the ways we can educate the public.

OTOH, the more people quit smoking the fewer there are to convert. Eventually, America will be smoke and vape free, but probably not in my lifetime.
When I think about that ---it's true. None of my friends vape - not a one, although most of them do not smoke analogs either- I really do not see many people vaping. I am in an area with tons of casinos and nightlife and I can count how many people I have actually seen using any equipment - yet there are vape stores on every block almost as common as 7-11 and or the massage parlors .....

I think I'd be violating forum rules to spell it out, but chances are good that if someone is buying a large quantity of nicotine patches, they won't be using them to kick a smoking habit. There's a scam going on where very different kinds of patches that look very similar can be made to look like each other.
I could not figure this out when I first read this and think I just did. Probably true.!

I have lots of friends who are ex-smokers, but few that vape. My guess is that some are able to put down the smokes and walk away. I wasn't like that. It wasn't the nicotine rush that made me smoke as much as it was the hand to mouth habit.

Back in my smoking days I could play entire sets without smoking on stage. It was allowed, but they'd burn up in the ash tray during a song. Rather than let them burn, I'd just wait and smoke on breaks. Nowadays, I can pull my vape out of a pocket and take a hit between songs.

I can see how people assume that vaping is the same as smoking because it looks the same. That's why I like to explain just how it works. It's not smoke. It's a vapor and there are no tars or cigarette chemicals in the vape other than nicotine. That's important, as well as the fact that most and sometimes all of the ingredients in my vape are in their foods, drinks, cosmetics, medicines, and just about everything they consume or rub on their skin.
