.................... i mean, if he already has $3, you could give your SO a few bucks so that he doesn't despise vaping and that its still an option for him. Sorry but thats my 2Cents. ..............

tears of relief cause some shrew isn't keeping you from your smokes.

if you have an "addiction" and you can't pay for it, then boo hoo for you. I don't care if she was rich as dirt, she is not obligated to pay for his addiction! I'm surprised at some of the reactions here.

You shouldn't have to depend on a "shrew" to support your addiction. It's your own fault you're without smokes if you can't budget your cash.

I couldn't agree more. He's lucky she provided him with vape gear to hold him over, otherwise he would have had to do it cold turkey.

Well, the cigarettes were purchased...not sure when, but I'm leaving him with the gear in case he thinks it might work to help cut down. Since he's short on cash, he will need to make that pack last for a bit.

I'll update if any newsworthy happenings....well, happen. :p

I'm not too put off by some comments here, it's to be expected in a forum. But I do appreciate the support from all of you who commented positively, and I even can appreciate some of the criticisms too.

This site has a vastly larger percentage of positive people than negative ones.

I hope last night got your SO to thinking about the possibilities of vaping. Maybe you could encourage him to vape ALONGSIDE his smoking, "to make the cigarettes last longer". With time and practice, he might just find he doesn't need the cigarettes anymore.

Tell him, "no pressure...just give it a whirl".

Yeah, I'm hoping that by leaving them out in the garage (where he smokes), he might just take it upon himself to pick it up once in a while. I'm actually pretty impressed; the most I could ever get him to do was take a puff or two. I'm sure he vaped for at least a couple of hours straight last night.

I've never pressured him into anything, and he's so stubborn that the more you try the more pushback you get. You learn after so long exactly how far you can go without pushing the wrong buttons. So, just a silent reminder that it's there if he wants it. :)

I fully agree with you, EvilZoe. All of us here on the forum are working towards being smoke-free, and are at various stages of harm reduction. Hopefully Alisa's SO will accept the gift given him of better health and longer life.

No one can make anyone quit. God only knows my wife tried for the last 14years. She was a patient soul and knew I would someday. I do have a very high stress job (pilot) and we all know, the last thing you want is your captain crooking from a heart attack while in the seat. That being said, the excellent flight physicals I get every year didn't exactly make me want to quit. The sour looks from the flight doc was enough, but what does he know? Right? I had longed to quit for quite awhile, but nothing was working. The vaping satisfys two needs for me. One being the nic requirements, and the second is I have to always be fiddling with something. A finicky PITA protank fit the bill. Now I roll coils when I need something to do. I tried quitting once by emptying my pockets of money and turning over my CC to my wife. I just found myself relighting my used cig butts off the floor of the garage. Once I got over the disgust of doing such a nasty task, I found I was failing again. I'm glad I found vaping. Hell, I even vape in the plane! Perfect!

Maybe your SO needs a hobby or something else to occupy his time so he's not dwelling on a cigarette. Does he do crosswords or surf the net? Try to find something that brings him enjoyment and pair that with vaping a tasty juice. He will begin to pair the two together and might just fulfill whatever needs he's constantly looking for. (or maybe it's just loose change in the sofa!) lol

good luck.

So, how is bachelor life treating you? You sound a bit hard up.

He has adult ADHD, so sometimes he IS like a child.

Yep, I have ADHD, it's why I started smoking as a kid, just didn't know it at the time.

I smoked several packs of ultra lights a day and had to use the 24mg for a couple of months to finally quit completely, and that was chain vaping. Looks like we vary widely in that category too.

Alisa, I hope this has put the vaping idea firmly in his brain. Can’t believe he had lung surgery and still smokes.

It was for spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Awful, and not cause by smoking. He actually quit while he was in the hospital, and stayed quit for 18 months. For that time, I was the stinky one. I will NEVER make him feel like he's "less than", or not kiss him because he smells like an ashtray. Not gonna happen. And in reality, the smoke really doesn't bother me much at all most of the time.

Ow. I've heard that really hurts. So he did quit for a while. Nostinkies suggested a hobby, have you shown your SO all the cool, manly shinny stuff they have now? :D

I have a Zen2 Carto Hybrid. Kind of a manly thing, but he thinks it's weird...

He has hobbies, for sure...his biggest hobby is his business, though. He works out of our garage restoring pinball machines so that's where he is most of the time. I thought for sure he'd get into the hobby aspect of it, because he's a grease-monkey and electronics nerd. He just thinks all the vaping stuff is strange.

Just as an idea... if your girly level allows it... ask him to help with the tinkering side of vaping? Help rebuild stuff or do coils for you or whatever. Make him more familiar with the 'how it works' and let curiosity take over from there to see what happens?

Ultra Light smoker, even if he smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs a day is going to get dizzy from 24mg nic. I smoked 2 packs a day of regular menthols and 18 was all I could really stand I guess just keep an eye on him, remember with a cigarette you are burning the nic away and it's nearly as efficient as an e-cig. Just keep an eye open and switch if you need to.

Not necessarily true. There seems to be a wide range in the nic absorption people get out of vaping. Could be just how an individual is "built", I bet a lot of it has to do with vaping technique.

I was a 2 PAD PallMall Blue smoker. I started at 24 mg and had to move up to 30 mg when I started. But those same levels could blow another 2 PAD smoker right out of the water. There are no set rules about what is the right nic level for anyone. But I can pretty much guarantee you that if the nic level is too low for him he will be right back on smoking the first chance he gets.

Point out to him how much money can be made if he designs and produces a really good performing and pretty mod?

First we gotta get him vaping! :p

He's actually vaping right now...trying to conserve his pack. He bought the smokes at 3am, so it was a long while for him not to smoke. I mentioned how awesome that was, even if it was a bit painful while he was holding off, and that someone is PIF'ing some 900mah egos and novas so that might do the trick. My spinner gave too much vapor but now that he's used to it the egos might work pretty well.

We discussed dual use for a while, and how after a bit cigarettes aren't that great. He said "that would be awesome if that happened". So, I guess the experiment is ongoing...

I wasn't ready to give up my cigs, either, but after a few days I just got a wild hair, didn't have my morning smoke, and that was the end of that.

Alisa, I like Kittyn's idea of getting him into the more technical side of vaping. Even if he thinks it is weird, if you say you need help rebuilding a coil or something, won't that get him to take a crack at it? Once he starts fiddling, he may start testing the coils, etc., by vaping some juices. And on and maybe on. To vaping. I like this idea.

Just ask him for some help on something to be rebuilt. I would even go so far as to pick up a cheap Fasttech RBA for him to 'fix' for you. I mean, screwdrivers and clamps and wire and ohms meters, what is there not to like for a mechanical/electrical type of guy.
