Great summary SCW over your last few posts. I noticed some finishing flaws as well that appear to be on the metal itself. Mine survived several 3ft fails with a storm rider on it, due to a fellow vapor knocking it off a work desk. That was all on the day after I got it. So for what it is and what I want which is a daily carry I'm liking it. I hope it lasts because I really like the size and weight.

If charging were 100% efficient, it would take 2.4 hours for a 500 mA charging circuit to put 1200 mAh into your battery. But charging is NOT 100% efficient. Moreover, an intelligent charger will not dump it's full output rating into a battery the whole time it's charging it; as the voltage of the battery comes up, the current will taper off. This increases charging time, but it's also much easier on the battery.

The battery charge calculator I used Battery Charge Time Calculator indicated I'd be at a 40% efficiency loss but if the charge is tapering and increasing the charge time I won't worry about it, just was wondering if 3+ hours was typical for other owners.

My MVP2 takes about 3.5-4.5 hours to charge and is 2600mAh purely anecdotal but got me wondering.

Just to let you guys know I haven't touched my Provari's in a week and my ZNA, well that's back in the case....

If this trend continues I may just have to get an other one in black.

VS vs. ZNA

Disclosure: I own a VS as well as two other dna mods, but I do not own a ZNA.

+ VS is smaller and lighter, with roughly the same same battery capacity.
+ VS has a built-in charger allowing it to be topped off during the day.
+ VS is $100 less expensive.
- VS has a battery that's soldered in.

+ ZNA is a piece of art and has "cachet".
+ ZNA looks better with a full-sized (~22mm) topper
+ ZNA is 100% made in USA
+ ZNA uses batteries that are trivial to swap out.
- ZNA requires you to use a separate battery charger instead of just plugging into USB power.

I'd want a ZNA badly if the "backpack" part of it were 15mm longer (so it looked right with an 18650 tube) and Zen used the extra space to for on-board charger. It would then be a nearly perfect mod.

After 3-1/2 months, my translucent blue plastic button looks no different than the day I got it.

I could of not said it better!!!
But you forgot the most important thing about the ZNA.It's just to heavy! The VS just fits great in the pocket with the same horsepower! The only negative I can say about the VS is that it's slippery. I haven't drop it yet, but it is just a matter of time due to the slippery finish...

Update: Sad thing is that I have a friend who is at the DC Vapefest right now as I type this and I just got the last 18490 gunmetal battery tube for the ZNA....

Going with a yellow tank today.

Well, it does seem to be required.


It's the 21st century. Metric screws are available off-the-shelf in the US. Also, DNA boards are made in the US, so VS would have to send them to China first in order to have the whole thing assembled there? I'm skeptical.

One potential explanation is that they have the whole thing except for the DNA board assembled in China, and that it gets shipped here ready to have the DNA board soldered to the rest of the rest of the unit.

My point is that vaping gear hasn't exactly been subject to much regulation. I don't even see "Made in China" on IGO-L boxes, and that's clearly the case. In fact, I've never seen it on a ViviNova box back when I used them, or an eGo box, AGA-T2, RSST, etc. So I don't think VS is worried about following the law to the letter, because it isn't enforced.

I was in hardware for 13 years so I know well the availability of metric screws, yet US manufacturers still very much tend towards SAE sizes. Granted, that's not a real indicator, but a hunch. That and the wire marked "Shenzhen" tells me soldering and assembly (including direct connections to the DNA board) are done in China. There's simply no reason to source standard insulated wire from China if you're not assembling there. Sending boards there is probably cheaper than assembling here, because the factories in Shenzhen will quote you hundreds of pieces a day for minimal rates.

Thanks. Mine's already been banged around a bit as well, and it seems to be a relatively tough unit. There's a tiny bit of fuzz under the clear screen protector that persists even after I disassembled and blew air in there from an air can, but I can live with it.

Battery life is better than I expected, probably because there's more "usable" range than an AW in a mech. For instance, an 18350 at 700 mAh is only usable from 4.2V off the charger, down to about 3.5V, at which point I change batteries because the vape has become too weak. The DNA board allows me to continue using the battery for most (if not all) of its rated mAh. I'm getting at least a good 8 hours out of a charge, which gets me through the work day, and I haven't yet had to charge on the way home. I'm running a 0.8 ohm coil at 15W, although I took it down to 13 in the morning for a mellower vape. Pretty nice, and more than I was expecting.

My mail guy finally showed up yesterday(over 2 hours later than his normal time) with my VS! Woo Hoo! It arrived almost fully charged so I popped the KF on top and... BOOM!... vape heaven!

Initial impressions. Fit and finish is about 8.5 of 10. The casting is good. No real rough edges or anything like that. Paint pooled in a few areas leaving some high spots on the finish. No big deal. Screen crisp, clear, mounted straight on mine. 510 connector/center pin... nice and tight. No wobble. Air "slots" could possibly be a hair deeper... the iClear 30s from my VTR had a tight draw before, but if you screw it down too tight on the DNA, the draw is really really really tight.

Power is great. Fire button on mine is good. (Light presses to fire. No noticeable peeling on the chrome, but I'll keep an eye out.) Up and down buttons are okay... part of me wishes for a more clickly, tactile button... but I assume this is because it's using the chip's on-board buttons. USB port is solid, no wobble.

All-in-all... I'm very happy. It will easily become my daily vape. The only thing I'm noticing, and that I'll want to keep and eye on... the paint on the top of the device, by the connector. I'm very curious how long that's going to last if you screw attys on and off, how tight you tighten them down, etc.

Less than 24 hours at this point... but man, this thing is cool.
