Already sealed it and it works great!

How did you seal around the button ports

It's at the very bottom so I didn't worry about it. I was concerned with the top half where the channels drain into the seam.

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying it was already sealed when you got it or you did it yourself?

Absolutely love the XPV...adjusting temp and watts is a breeze with the wheel...just hold it in a direction and let her whirl away...instead of clickclickclickclickclick....

Extremely well built...mine is all black no clip and an aqua button...as the Kiwi says...looks like Black Ops...lol. I also like the square tube a lot better that I thought. If it falls over it does not roll!

Fire button rated for some ridiculous millions of clicks, used in space shuttles. The areas around the fire button and display have a grippy feel, easy easy to find fire button in the dark.

Made in Hawaii...support is great and shipped with a Sony VTC 5 battery.

I keep looking for a flaw...nothing about this mod bums me out.

Spring loaded pin....the 510 connection is the best I have ever seen...it is just well-engineered.

At 205.00 dollars it is a steal IMO.

OK, I just remembered the one thing that some people do not like but that I don't care about. The battery is wrapped. The intent is to charge USB and leave the battery in until it drops dead, then get another wrapped battery and plug it in. I ordered an extra wrapped battery, which is in my fridge now...waiting for the day that it may be needed.

I'm generally a ditto to your thoughts. Got mine a few days ago. For me, it has an "industrial look" because the scews in the top and the bottom don't sit flush and contrast with the color. Doesn't bother me as I actually like it but it might others. The bat has wires soldered to it which lead to a push in pin kinda thing. Requires you to take the mod apart. Rather than springs or bat connector tabs. I'm assuming this minimizes any "loss" but is a concern for me, as opposed to just swapping bats like on my VS rDNA30. Their site says:

The battery in the unit has a 2-pin connector soldered to it via a wiring harness. New batteries will have to have this harness. You can either order from us or recover the harness from the original battery, and transfer to a new battery. Please be careful when soldering to a lithium-ion battery, or have someone do it that knows how.

The printed docs which are very well done say they will replace your purchased bat for free. Natch you pay the shipping. Overall, a minor little compromise is no big deal. Love the device and dollar for dollar it's cant be currently beat

:)

I think you're mixing up the DNA and rDNA

The NCR18650B is NOT a crappy battery. It's a high quality battery, just not a high amp battery. It's rated for 6.8amps but will pulse to 12amp so probably not a good choice for sub-ohm'ers and possibly irresponsible of VS to include it with a DNA 30 but I would guess 95% of rDNA 30 owners won't have any issues with the battery and the higher capacity would be welcome for most. The DNA 30 max output is 10amp. If you build coils over .8 ohms, you will be fine.
I agree NCR18650B is a high-quality battery, it's just not appropriate for this application. The DNA30 data sheet states it can pull as much as 12A from the battery, so that should be the absolute minimum rating for the battery, and the continuous rating is the only one that's meaningful. The more conservative mod makers won't even sell you a 10-amp NCR18650PF for use with a DNA30.

Yes yes yes I understand your point :) BUT they are in for a huge surprise. /lol As soon as I receive the extra bat I ordered from them I intend to learn how to swap just because I'm either curious or nutz! I'm actually a bat rotate kinda guy with my VS 30 but that's just me. /lol

IF you play nice /lol I might even take pics of the beast torn apart just because I can and I have never seen pics like this. /lol

I am an old timer and have been slow to keep up with new technology because it changes so fast now. In the beginning it was much slower. I stuck with my Provari for a couple years but times to move on. Ordered a Grey rDNA and I am really looking forward to it. I am going to start with an Aspire Nautilus and maybe try cloud chasing for the first time.

Interesting picture. Aren't the locations of the temperature and wattage reversed? My DNA40 board displays 'em like this:

IBPvAzH.jpg
i took that pic before I had my Ni200 wire in, so took the shot while in the temp setting screen :)
No photoshop fun..just was the easiest way to show that I had a DNA40 board in (as opposed to setting it at 40w, which one could do on one of the Chinese DNA ripoff boards).

You put a DNA 40 in a regular VS DNA30?

Yes. It took all of about 20 minutes to pull out, resolver a half dozen wires and drop it back in. The LiPo battery in there was a 15C rated battery, which puts it capable of about an 18a or so discharge rate..and in any case, I normally run it at about 22w anyways :)

FWIW, I received an rDNA 30 from VS maybe 2 weeks before the DNA40 equipped units were released, and it came with a VTC4, so methinks battery gate is long gone... Any chance that the battery gate folks were ones who purchased during the "Shark Week" sale?

Hmmmmmmm. :(

Good news... After 3.5 hours with a circuit checker thing on my multimeter ... I found the short.... Keep in mind I have NO electronics formal training so it took me a while... Connected the short with a small wire and bam! Everything works again.... Usb charging and 1/2 of the lights around the fire button while charging.... Good enough for me!

I AM NEVER going to open the casing ever again and now have a sharkskin to hide the ugliness of all the scratches...

You know, I might just do that! :D

I mean after all, most of my builds are between .8 and 1.2 ohms, so it should be fine....I don't know why I said it was crappy....I guess because of the relatively low amp limit....but like you said, as long as your builds are above .8 then it shouldn't be a problem....

That check battery light is normal... I get that a weak battery sign sometimes... It goes away and everything works fine... I think it's amps of the vtc5 and sometimes switching from charging to un plugging it, I notice it

I took all those things into consideration when ordering the rDNA40. The only three options I seriously considered were vaporshark, vapor flask, and hana. Vapor flask was too difficult to get ahold of, and I could see the screen being on top blinding me at night while driving. I really did want the two replaceable batteries though. Hana I only considered for a split second, their known for having pretty crappy customer service also, and after their crooked 510 issues with their dna30 kept me from choosing them. With vapor shark I have some complaints, Batterygate, no longer offering free shipping on all orders, not having the sharkskin as a drop down option for the 40 preorder, paint scratching, leaving the button exposed on the rDNA skins.

I'd still rather have all those issues than have to worry about getting a crooked non adjustable/not spring loaded 510 from hana and having to deal with their customer support.
I feel the exact same way. I'm also one of those weirdos that don't want dual 18650 in my mod.

Somebody told me that wasn't possible, I told you it wasn't a big deal, not a big difference between the 30 n 40 boards.

I got my VS rDNA 30 from Ebay (I hate buying vape gear from Ebay, but I needed it quickly as I am leaving for a business trip on Monday). It came with an NCR18650B, so maybe the seller got it during Shark Week? Not sure..... :-/

Kiwi, you might want to email customer service to check on your order status.

I registered on their site and got an order confirmation from support@vaporshark.com immediately. I also got a shipping notice that was issued in error about a half an hour later. However, that might be because I placed my order on Oct 14, 2014 7:37:25 AM EDT before Vapor Shark made the announcement that the rDNA 40 was officially for sale.

My order shows as being shipped and completed on the VS website. The tracking number issued in error oddly shows the shipment has departed the Miami, FL 33155 acceptance facility to a sorting facility on Oct. 15 despite VS telling me that none of the items in my order have been shipped! The post office showing a package they never received arriving and leaving one of their facilities is a new USPS trick for me. :(

VS customer service has assured me that I will get my complete order when the rDNA 40s come in despite the shipping notice error. They have responded to my emails about my order status and whether or not the Shark Skin I ordered would fit the rDNA 40 within 24 hours.
