I got about 22 years out of the cedar that I'm replacing with very little maintenance. Living in the boondocks you don't have to impress the neighbors so you can let it go a lot longer. Besides at 72, I'm figuring time is on my side. lol

Hit, I have the same feeling toward grass. I had it looking real good for the last big party I'll ever have before the one I through instead of a funeral. The woods keep decreasing my lawn size and the grass has now given way to some form of weed that has covered it. It's not crabgrass but, left go, it grows to a good foot or so high. If I were to do the verticutter thing. I'd get something that I could tow behind my mower. I'm too beat up to get beat up doing anything but processing firewood.

Quiet over here lately. Seems to be all across ECF also. All the new pods/tanks must be easy enough for folks that they don't search out help anymore.

Been shopping for a refrigerator lately. With our kitchen remodel we went with a larger fridge pocket intending to upgrade eventually and a standard sized fridge looks dumb in there currently.

Anyone have experience with Samsung fridges? I have a seemingly random employee discount on them and the price can't be beat.

What a coincidence. I was just looking at refrigerators this morning. We have a Whirlpool side by side that's about nine years old and the auger motor on the ice maker in the door quit a long time ago. Then Sunday it suddenly started making these tiny little ice cubes. Ours runs without a filter or with and I haven't had a filter in it for a while now so I know that's not the problem. The water dispenser works normally so I don't know what's causing it. I know it would cost at least 3-400 to get someone out to fix it and wonder if it's worth it. My wife wants a counter depth fridge but I'm less than excited because we will have to downsize in cuft to get one and they seem to be a little more expensive.

That's what were looking at as well. Counter depth, but also 36" wide.

We looked at Home Depot over the weekend and really liked an LG, but they had $2700 on it. I randomly checked our employee discount website and saw we could buy Samsung appliances 40% off. A similar fridge would be over $1000 cheaper, but the ice maker takes up a bunch of space in the fridge section.

I also looked at the range we bought from HD and could have saved another $400 on that. Oh well.

Wow! That's a great discount. I'm not sure yet exactly how wide we can go. I need to measure. Our current fridge is 26cuft and I'm pretty sure we're going to have to go smaller to get a counter depth that will fit. I wish I could get a discount like that. I can get 10% military discount at lowes and home depot but it basically just covers tax. We have an LG dishwasher and it's been good so far. Our range is Samsung and it's been alright too.

No Samsung fridge, but my washer and dryer are Samsung and I've been really impressed with them. We had Whirlpool when we built the house, both front loaders. The dryer blew a bearing about five years in so I had it replaced. That lasted another four years then the bearings went out in both of them so that's when we bought the Samsung. With two boys who enjoy the outdoors and play multiple sports we needed some pretty large equipment and these fit the bill perfectly. Been really good units so far.

I figured out last night how to take the cover off the icemaker in the door on our fridge but have no idea why it's making tiny little ice cubes all of a sudden. Overnight there wasn't even enough ice for one drink. I'm just having a hard time deciding whether to call a repair guy or just buy a new one. It's nine years old and hate to pay a repair guy if it's not going to last much longer.

My usual rule is I'll pay up to roughly half of the price of a new unit or $300/$400 on one repair, depends on the appliance.

My $400 washing machine needed a $300 repair, so I just replaced it. We did just have our dishwasher repaired at $300, but it was going to be $700 to replace.

We have the new Samsung range that we like, but it's only been 6 months. Our new washer is a Samsung also, no issues over 2 years. The reviews online for Samsung fridges settle in around 3.8/5 and it makes me a touch apprehensive about them. Thankfully neither my wife or I care about matching appliance brands so the options are open, but that employee discount is hard to beat.

I try to read reviews also but take them with a grain of salt. I figure that a lot of times people aren't as likely to post a review if they like something versus if they don't.

I am leaning toward calling a repair guy but my wife seems to want me to mess with it more. Without some kind of troubleshooting guide, I don't see myself fixing it. I called a repair place and they will come and give an estimate after troubleshooting for $90. I would kind of like to just do that. That will let me decide if I want to fix it or replace it.

When our ice maker was bad (leaking water into the ice bin), I couldn't figure out how to get it out, so I went on YouTube, and there was a video on how to do it. Then the water leaver in the door broke, so back to YouTube and found a video on how to take it apart and fix it and what part I needed. Never know, might find your answer there.

I have searched youtube and haven't really found a video that covers the problem we are having with our fridge. That's why I'm considering calling in a tech to at least give an estimate.

Hitt, two possibilities from my fairly recent experience, look for kinks in the water line or a frozen line. After battling mine and replacing the maker itself for around $100 and it still not working, I knew it had to be something obvious. It didn't look frozen from inspecting the outlet and using a hair dryer on the outlet, but when I loosened the retaining screws on the back and pulled to elbow away, it was frozen. I ended up keeping the new icemaker anyway since it was kicking ice out like it did when I first bought the fridge, maybe better. I use a lot of ice so it was worth the effort.

You guys taught me about counter level fridges though. I saw them but never thought they might have a name for them. I was looking at fridges waiting for Auto Zone to open to buy a battery, just to see what I might be interested in if/when my 23 year old ridge finally is beyond my I found I'd have the same struggle I gave now. It was 36" and the pocket is like 36 1/8" wide and is a bear getting in and out. I think I either get a new kitchen on look for something slightly smaller.

    I'm with you Burnie, Youtube.

I spent most of the day lining my drive with oak rounds from a big old tree that was being cut up at my gf's sister's house. I had to be at least 30' tall and they offered to deliver a dump truck full for $50 a load.

I got two with one more coming tomorrow. The last one is going to be a bear. The base is close to 30" maybe even more. I'm wondering if I even have space for all the big stuff plus dealing with it next year may be a challenge weight wise to try to get them into the spitter. Might have to chainsaw the rounds in half or quarters to deal with them.

My wife was supposed to call a tech Friday but didn’t. Hopefully she calls tomorrow. I’ll remind her in the morning via text. I really just don’t feel like messing with it. If it’s too expensive to repair then we’ll just buy a new one.

I may have met my match with these Oak rounds. They showed up after dark with a trailer full of 40" rounds. It took two to four young studs to get them off the trailer, about a dozen of them. They rolled them off the lane and most are sitting on their sides. One ended up in the lane a bit and the only way I could move it 6" was with an old post hole digging bar with my gf putting a smaller log behind it after I moved it an inch or so.

They're about 10" bigger than the biggest I've dealt with. I've already ordered a few tools to work on them.

I did a calc on the difference between a 30" round and a 42" round Yeah, I took a tape measure out and measured the biggest of them). I've handle 30" with a little effort, well maybe a little more than little. However, that 42" round is about 95% larger and heavier than a 30" of the same thickness.

I think they may be manageable if I cut them in half, With the ones leaning against each other I should be able to chainsaw nearly in half and use my hole bar to separate at the bottom if the weight doesn't split it first. 10 years ago I'd be positive but everything is a bit more of a challenge these days.

I'll probably work on one to see how it goes and if I develop a good strategy, I'll wait until next year to go further. Use of the wood is probably three winters away anyhow but I want to learn what I don't know now.

Sometimes it seems like I just can’t catch a break. We have a guy coming to give an estimate on fixing the fridge tomorrow. Tonight I was mowing and my wife came out and got me because the garbage disposal wasn’t working. It’s not very old so I was doubtful that it was bad. I finished mowing and came in and checked the voltage at the switched outlet for the disposal. It was only reading about 90 volts. I knew then that the switch must be bad so took it loose and checked the output side of the switch with the disposal plugged in and sure enough I wasn’t getting any voltage through the switch with a load on it. I luckily had a good Hubbel switch on hand left over from another project and replaced it. I hate how builder electricians use the cheap outlets and switches where they just push the wire into the spring loaded clamp in the back instead of tightening a screw down on the wire.
