Why are so many people against non-smokers vaping?

And as far as never-smokers becoming addicted to nicotine via e-cigarettes, there is little scientific evidence that extracted nicotine is even addictive. In fact, studies of ulcerative colitis patients on nicotine patch therapy up to 6 months show no indication of withdrawal upon completion of treatment. vaping is not smoking and even if some people do become dependent, its still not smoking. Nor is there any evidence that non-smokers vaping will lead to smoking. I know smokeless tobacco users who have never smoked who started using e-cigs and it hasn't made them want to smoke.

I'm not saying we should go out and tell non-smokers to vape. All I'm saying is we shouldn't give credibility to ANTZ lies nor make unscientific assumptions ourselves. And to realize that many of those 1,200 non-smokers, who become smokers or over 2,000 who just try smoking every day, might come here to find out about vaping first. We should be careful not to chase them away to go smoke instead. :(

are you implying that anyone who has been solely vaping e-liquid w/nicotine should be able to quit cold turkey tomorrow and not have any withdrawal symptoms?

If you wean yourself down to 0 nic, yes, I believe you could. You may experience some kind of "withdrawal symptoms" but not the same magnitude as if you try to quit cigarettes cold turkey. It would be more like if you stop drinking coffee or sodas or go on a diet.

I've seen quite a few people here on this forum do that very thing, although most of them do it accidentally.
As for me, I know I could do it, but then I only vape about 1ml of 12mg juice per day.

What I often wonder about is why there seem to be two kinds of vapers...
--Those that find their addiction to nicotine alone is easy to reduce and even break
--Those that struggle to reduce their nicotine intake even a little

That is a topic that really seems worthy of study.

if extracted nicotine isn't addictive, then why would weaning even be necessary? caffeine IS addictive, and that's why people get headaches and are irritable when they quit it cold turkey. i assumed all nicotine was addictive, and feel like i'm misunderstanding something here

i thought i could quit smoking fairly easily the first 15 times i tried ;) i wasn't a heavy smoker for the last two years, and could usually go a full day without the withdrawals getting bad, but if i didn't have at least one every 24 hours, i was horrible to be around. even worse than i'm being in this thread!

You're probably right. I said weaning because that would be the least uncomfortable way of doing it. I diy'ed it for a while about six months ago and I would test my concoctions without nic liquid. I found myself vaping 0 nic for days without any discomfort, so yes, it could very well be that you may not need to wean down to 0 nic. I'm not a scientist nor a doctor so I can't give you statistics, I'm just a 64 year old woman who accidentally quit smoking after 40 years when having found the miracle of electronic cigarettes.

There's no better proof than trying yourself. You can do it with a bottle of glycerin from the store and distilled water. Try it for a few hours, or a day and see if your body is distressed in any way. Remember that you have the nic liquid if you start feeling ill.

I've often wondered how much of it is mental obsession. IE: I wonder if someone put zero nic in my bottle labeled 12mg or I did accidentally, I would start craving a smoke.

My daughter was the one who bought my first kit, and when I vaped my 0 nic concoctions that is exactly the same question we had. She's a non-smoker but she's seen me struggle through the several attempts to quit smoking, we were both so surprised I could do without the nicotine (I've been smoke free for a year now). I believe we convince ourselves of something in our heads and take it as an absolute truth for ourselves and for others.

The only thing I know about quitting cold turkey is that you wouldn't want to be within 100 ft of me without nicotine in my system.
(proven during many attempts to quit smoking)

I hear ya! Been there, done that. Quitting cigarettes cold turkey is not being kind to your body nor your psyche LOL

i haven't had any tobacco in 1 month, 1 week, and 4 days thanks to e-cigs. i'm perfectly content with a nicotine addiction! just wanted to clarify whether nicotine is addictive before we start encouraging teenagers to take up vaping instead of smoking.

You maybe haven't had a smoke in that time, but you are still using a tobacco product if you are vaping any juice with nic in it. Currently all nic used for juices and NRT's come from tobacco.

True enough, but nicotine is far from the most harmful thing we get from cigarettes.

We absorb nicotine much less efficiently vaping than we do smoking. I suspect when you get down around 6mg nic you're actually getting very little nicotine in your system.

Some on here have had blood work that backs that up. They've been surprised that when vaping 6mg the nic tests (not smoke ones) came back close to or at zero categorizing them non-smokers.
