fredrikstad, why should you be any different than the rest of us?
Yeah, that is the question
fredrikstad, why should you be any different than the rest of us?
No worries Fred, keep posting what you think.![]()
For me, most of my buying choices, for ANYTHING, are based on money, and/or value. There are a few items that only name-brand, a certain brand, will do -- Twinings English Breakfast Tea, Hellman's mayo. I really can't think of any others than those 2, right offhand, which goes to show you how little I care about name brands. In some cases, value matters somewhat more than actual price, though price still has to be a major consideration, because we're basically poor. My husband bought me a diamond anniversary band for our 20th anniversary; he could have gotten it in 10K gold, with much bigger rocks, at Walmart. Instead, we went to D. Geller, who have 14K gold, and actual precious diamonds instead of industrial-quality; and, they're willing to dicker on price. The stones in my ring are tiny, but there are 10 of them (I told him he actually owed me another 10, but he instructed me to bite him), and on my very slender fingers, the slender ring with tiny stones doesn't look weird; it looks delicate, and elegant, and it's of substantially better quality than anything at Walmart -- just like our marriage.
None of those considerations apply when choosing vape gear, EXCEPT, to batteries. For those, I will get the very best quality I can possibly afford, because with confined energy, it does not pay to take chances. Everything else? I'll be looking for bargains, good prices for reasonable value. Kind of like how we drive a Chevy Silverado; it's a good truck, but doesn't cost a fortune.

I feel the same way. Although I have a problem with someone making an exact copy of another's device, logo and all, or a copy of another's device if it is uniquely recognizable and selling it at any price. You have a right to your own design and a right to set a price for it. I'm ok with copying, just do your own style and use your own logo. make it different and call it your version. Patent costs to secure rights would be expensive and impossible. That said, I find it difficult to acknowledge that any mod has a justifiable value of more than $80. But as I said before, you have a right to set your price.i wear rolex sub. yes it's authentic and it has maintenance done at main factory not too long a go. it's coming up for another one. no, i didn't buy it. it was a gift and i love it. but if i had to buy my own watch, i wouldn't buy rolex. there are many copies out there made by different companies that keeps time just as well, if not better. then why do i wear this over priced chunk of metal? because it was a gift. and i need a watch.
same thing applies to mod. if authentic was given to me as a gift, i would use it, but i won't buy one. there are copies that works just as well, if not better at much less coins. it just makes sense.
knives are different. i go camping often. i don't carry expensive knives. i don't have to. there are well made american fixed blade that will do the job. Becker knives are amazing. it's sharpened praybar. i can do anything i need to do. same goes to folders. i rarely baton folders, but if i have to, i carry american made folder that was designed to take abuse.
i buy thing that i can justify spending money on. not sure shiny piece of metal to show off. logo or no logo doesn't make any difference. will they function and function well.
those with money to burn, go ahead get authentic. not my money. i spend my money way i feel justifies the amount of work i put into getting that money.
Retail is always about money.... But open up a shop and try and stock your shelves with authentic only mods.... See how many you will be able to acquire, bet not enough to keep your doors open.
Steve's argument falls apart when he says it's ok to steal design from Chinese companies, cause it's just payback. You can't hold one level of moral standards to one side and not the other. What this really tells us is the lower standard is in truth your personal moral level. Your moral anti clone high horse is a facade. I won't begin to try and guess your true motivation, but with that one comment your true colors have shown
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.
I'm going to have to disagree with the first part of this statement. There is a local store here (VaporCraft, Clawson MI) that sells only authentic stuff and appears to be doing quite well, expanding even. Now, I'm not able to see their books, but it appears they are doing very well. Of course this is just one example and they could fold tomorrow for all I know.
And just to be clear - I am not anti-clone. I have some of each but find myself reaching for the authentic mods - if only to make sure I use them enough to justify the cost. I could buy thousands of authentic mods tomorrow if the mood struck me, I just find it very hard to justify spending $200+ on a metal tube. My most expensive mod is a Super-T Simplicity that is fantastic. Perfect fit and finish, amazing threads, great button, hits nicely, but I can't say it's 5x better than my Nemesis clone.
One last thing - I could not care less about the logo on my mod. I have never cared about impressing anyone other than myself. To say that people buy clones to impress others is laughable, at least to me.
Vapor craft now sells clones.
Hammer clones, Kayfun clones. And more.
Legit modders don't make enough inventory to stock multiple stores.
You are mistaken. VaporCraft in Clawson Michigan. No they don't. They are anti-clone. I was just in there last week.

I don't know how much I would believe them, considering on their website they say vape liquid is made of water![]()
In addition to this, rather than spending over a hundred dollars or more on cartons of cigarettes in the course of one month, you only need to buy one bottle of e-liquid, a mixture of flavor, water, and nicotine, that the e-cigarettes use - which will see you through the whole of the month and costs only $20.
Now, the clone manufacturers can produce their own original designs which tick all of the boxes on the design front, but the difficulty they have in producing these completely original designs is that no one would know about it and would not be searching for it, so despite it being 'the bomb' no one would find it.
