i love how this thread went from "clones" to "counterfeits"
but retail is what retail is, whether authentic or clones.....one site might sell an item for $100 while another site is selling it for $50.....supply and demand I guess, if people are willing to pay that price then why wouldn't they charge that price? And the convenience level of the buyer willing to shop around....

anyways...i said my 2 cents worth (not so much in this thread but in many predecessors) but this thread I can't help but laugh....see the same people making the same vague arguments and twisting words things to bend to their ideas.....
anyway, have fun and enjoy :D at least for the most part this thread has remained mostly friendly banter :D

If it looks identical, is sold using the same name as an authentic, has the same markings and packaging and even made in stamp, it is a counterfeit...

The majority of us could not care less about whether it has the original logo or a unicorn jumping over a flaming turd on it.

I care.....

Unicorn.jpg

and you can't tell from this pic but I'm jumping really high

yes if it has the logo then that is counterfeit or even if it doesn't have a logo and states that it is authentic (but obviously not) then that would be a counterfeit

clones are just that a clone...a look a like, not someone trying to pass it off as the authentic but as a similar product.....same shape, design, no marking or trademarks and not claiming to be from the authentic company....
would facial tissues be a counterfeit of kleenex (actually that'd be the other way around)? would pepsi be a counterfeit of coke? back in the day would windows be a counterfeit of mac (don't answer that  )
I mean how many products are on the market that are clones of each other but under their own branding and just ever so slightly different (sometimes not really any difference other than the name brand)

There is a difference between a similar product and one sold as a clone/counterfeit of another...

From your Wiki Link...

...

As a criminal offense, Florida's law[2] is an example. Price gouging may be charged when a supplier of essential goods or services sharply raises the prices asked in anticipation of or during a civil emergency, or when it cancels or dishonors contracts in order to take advantage of an increase in prices related to such an emergency. The model case is a retailer who increases the price of existing stocks of milk and bread when a hurricane is imminent.

In Florida, it is a defense to show that the price increase mostly reflects increased costs, such as running an emergency generator, or hazard pay for workers, while California places a ten percent cap on any increases.[3]

...

As of 2008, laws against price-gouging have been enacted in 34 states. Price-gouging is often defined in terms of three criteria listed below:[6]

1.Period of Emergency: The majority of laws apply only to price shifts during a time of disaster.

2.Necessary items: Most laws apply exclusively to items which are essential to survival.

3.Price ceilings: Laws limit the maximum price that can be charged for given goods.

Yes, Many States have "Price Gouging" laws. But None of them Apply to goods sold in a "Free Market" environment.

The Plywood Example that Bunny sited is a Classic Example of something being sold during a Time of an Emergency.

If you can show me how Selling a Mod can fit into some type of Price Gouging, I would like to hear it. About the Only thing I can think of would be Collective Price Fixing.

But that would fall more under Collusion.

Just curious with all the uproar over counterfeit products in this industry, why so many vapers knowingly buy clones?

Seems counterproductive to me...?

I honestly have no idea why this post was made, not everyone can spend $100s on their devices, just like asking why everyone is buying Ferraris and porsches...

Are people buying kit cars of Ferraris and Porsches in mass numbers?

A couple cartons of cigarettes cost, what, the price of a genuine mod and atty?... Did vapers not smoke? Seems these destitute vapers get a lot more vape mail than I do, yet cry about the price of non counterfeit mods...

the only reference that I could think of in terms of price gouging would be along the lines of a monopoly to then raise prices....
i was simply posting links as to what bunny was stating :)

I mean, they create the product so they can set a sale price however they see fit, now whether or not someone will pay that price is the unknown :)
but yes it could be price gouging if lets see vendor a buys out vendors b,c,d,e,f,g, ect because they sell their juice at a lower cost than vendor a and as such buying them out now raises the price of juice across the board becoming a monopoly to corner the market......make since?
(sorry  it's hard to debate, or even keep a train of thought with a 5 yr old bugging ya every 2 seconds cuz they don't wanna sleep)

 i liked that one, i mean in terms of counterfeits yes it makes a lot of since, in terms of clones....no not really....
I could just imagine the response one would get if arguing with the manufacture about how they could be a counterfeit much cheaper

be about the same principle as contacting tech support for an illegal download of a software cuz it wasn't working correctly

I know what you are saying.

But here's the Concept.

Is the Product that the Monololizing (sp?) company sells at an Inflated Price Essential?

If One company could somehow Buy up ALL the Cigarette Companies and then turn around and Jack Up the price for a pack of Smokes, then Yes, that could be Considered Price Gouging.

But if One Mod Maker sets a Prices for their Fancy-Dancy Mech Mech Mod at 500 Bucks, but there are all these Other Mech Mods on the Markets at Reasonable prices (10 ~ 100$), then No, it Isn't Price Gouging.

Because even if it could be Argued that Owning a Mech Mod is Essential, the are other Mech Mods that can Satisfy this Essential Need.

BTW - 5 Year Olds can be a Handful under Normal Conditions. But when they Get Cranky, well, Isn't Parenting a Joy.

Doesn't do anything for me. The engravings make it a great mod? I imagine there are clones...

does anything being authentic make it great? nope... there are alot of makers who have authentic junk out there... the engraving makes it look better and seriously, no one is going to take the time to engrave a mod to clone it.... too much effort and time would be required

Sure there are clones.
The authentic Surefire King is a clone of the Chi-you.
Slap a lion pic and a snappy logo and for $230 you too can own an authentic clone and impress all your shallow friends with how well you spend your money.
Surefire has a heavily engraved version that costs close to what that Otto C mod sells for.

A fool and his money are easily parted.

a couple of cartons of ciggies is far from the price of lets say an authentic Skeleton Key mod and a Origen Genny V2 ( which comes to about 450$)
