So Cal
went and read the original post.... Mr. D asks about the uproar over counterfit products.... and then asks about why people buy clones....
isnt this 2 different things?...

Only if you consider a "clone" to be a legit counterfeit! I do not, and many share my feelings apparently!

I refuse to knowingly feed the Chinese clone making industry (err, umm... beast)!

I think you completely missed my point...

Does the $20-30 clone (Y) of the expensive/unaffordable/unjustifiable product (X) really do anything better than a $20-30 authentic atty?

yes..... my 37$ KF3.1 clone( from hcigar) preforms much better than my authentic 24$ Catapillar, 22$ Protank, 34$ Spartan.....

OK...

Does either X or Y design really do anything differently (or better) than an authentic that costs the same as the Y clone in your argument?

Or is it really about appearing to have the latest greatest popular/cool atty?

After all is said and done you still don't have the X product you really wanted and couldn't afford.

Let me clear that up for you. Rarely does anyone outside my wife and an occasional co-worker see anything I own. I can't speak for others, but IN MY CASE, you full or yourself.
As for comparing (X) to (Y) if you cannot tell the difference between product designs and their differences in function do to said design, you can buy anything you like and will never really appreciate it.

Now, I never said I was or was not using anything in particular. In fact I enjoy poking in on these threads and adding my :2c:, generally while vaping on an Authentic:
eVic, Sigelei, (Original Vamo) or one of a few other Authentic mods I own. Got a few Nice toppers to: AGA-T's, AGA-s, RSST

I'm 61 and an ex-45yr smoker. The only one I need to impress with Vape gear is me.:)

I always thought it was the guy that had to have the best of the best and Most expensive version that was the show off:blink:

Please understand that my statement of MY opinion was in no way a personal attack on you, or any other ECF member, nor their gear.

I just refuse to feed this negative side of this industry, as I believe it only perpetuates it. Nor would I ever spend $150 or more on a friggin atty, as it only perpetuates those high "designer" prices on a $20 piece of stainless steel. Nor will I purchase products from any B&M that sells clones... but that's me and my morals/opinion!

I am also a mature adult like yourself (@53 I see no point in trying to impress anyone with my personal belongings). Life is too short!

hmmm okayyyy things have changed big time since the 80's.....

I went to several clubs in the French Quarter back then. I don't remember a place like what they are calling the Rainbow room now. Of course most of the time I was somewhat inebriated. But I don't think you were talkin about that place and winkin at me with an emoticon..:)

Any club with "rainbow" in the name is clearly gay these days!

Rainbow Lounge in Morgan city.... the only place ( back then) where a offshore worker could go for a cold beer and a pocket full of cash and be quickly departed of it by asking for the company of scantily clad girls who would dance on stage

I can't imagine there is a difference, considering the most common defenses for not buying authentic is that a mod is just a pipe with a button and an atty a hunk of metal with a couple posts, screws and air holes. Anyone can make them from parts bought at Lowes or anyone who happens to have a $million CNC machine lying around can make them and sell them for a profit at $20...

Of course, I found that out in the early 90's when I hung a rainbow air freshener on my rear view mirror in my 4wd Ford with shotgun and rifle in the window rack. My guys that worked for me let me drive around 2 weeks before they told me what a rainbow stood for.:facepalm:

But define Legitimate Counterfeit for me

Oh! OK! I thought you was talkin about New Orleans. Yeah, Morgan City, yeah went there and every bar within 50 miles. Bayou Vista Houma Franklin Thibedeaux. Every little beer joint I went in had a stage and at least one dancer. And I'm so glad you wasn't talkin about that all male revue place when you posted

"are you familiar with the Rainbow Lounge ;)" .......................

Perhaps to some. Those who have read a chapter from my book would say otherwise...

Your book? You never cease to impress me
