Why do so many people want to build to 0.1ohm?

I think the cloud comps are (or have) become a sport. I've even heard mention of having a circuit and doing "official" tournaments. That's not hobby or quite smoking stuff. That's a specialized use for mods, attys. I don't think enough distinction is made between the two.

I'd rather see an offical cloud association develop to further the sport than have the same thing happen ad-hoc on YouTube.

At the least, I think equip should be sold in categorey's; daily use and for clouds. I watched the review for Kanger's new K-box,, which is priced < $30 and then read it can only be used for sub-ohming. I haven't looked into it much further but that's confusing.

Soon there'll be divisions like in boxing;
heavyweight
middleweight
lightweight

your mod is weighed in first, and the highlight division is the lightweight division, because what you want is not who makes the biggest clouds with the biggest hunk of iron, but who can make the biggest clouds with a smallest little thingy.

Everyone is different.

It's all individual preference.

Don't knock it 'til you try it. I've seen converts. I've read, especially in this forum of naysayers defaming high wattage (or higher than before) delivery systems, but now they use them.

Who's to say this is better than that when there's been instances on both sides of the spectrum? Safe or unsafe, something bad has happened.

Has it clearly been defined what is a pulse and continuous discharge in regards to vape/inhale draws? Is it safe to 'pulse inhale draws'? IT"S NOT DEFINED.

Tired of reading, "You shouldn't be doing that because I don't do it." "You shouldn't do that because it's noted as dangerous." "You're crazy for doing that, but good luck to you!"

Get off that high pedestal. Just understand, find your forte, then continue to vape on.

Remember, we're NOT PROFESSIONALS at this. None of us went to an Ivy league/elite school to get a PHD in 'vaping'. Have you ever gotten a dry hit? Then you my friend, need to go back to 'school' for vaping (sarcasm) and learn how to not get a dry hit.

We are all guinea pigs...

I already have a working theory about "the biggest clouds with a smallest little thingy" - but it's not that one.

It seems a lot are newbs, who probably saw it on YouTube, and think it's cool. So they run out and buy a mechmod and rda, then try to throw some crazy low build in it without understanding Ohm's law or battery safety. There was even a guy posting recently with a mechmod and he was building without an Ohm meter.

The main issue is, a small change in resistance that low is a huge change in current. It's already been stated most meters aren't really accurate enough for building that low. For example, a 1.0 ohm build draws 4.2 amps, but a 0.9 ohm draws 4.7 amps, so only 0.5 amps difference if your meter is off by 0.1 ohms. But the current difference between 0.2 ohms and 0.1 ohms is 21 amps. So being 0.1 ohms off that low can create serious battery issues.

I personally try to educate people I see doing questionable stuff, and I see others doing the same.

Actually, I do agree somewhat with you. Experimentation is key to the continuing progress and advancement. I've read posts on here not so long ago I initially thought was just plain nuts.... And now is part of my normal vaping. When I first read about expirements with microcoils, thought it was strange... How could it possibly provide resistance in a coil. Now I wrap them weekly. One time I thought hybrids were foolish & unsafe... Now 2 of my favorite mechs have hybrid adapters (still can be argued they're unsafe though).

But the OP was discussing new vapors. Sampling juice in a b&m recently, the clerk was extolling the benefits and trying to sell a 100w mod with a subohm tank...nothing wrong with that .... But to a completely new, naive, & totally uneducated vapor!

Don't mean to be on my high horse as u say..... But that's just foolish. Subohms deserve respect for nothing more than safety reasons .... What a new vapor needs to learn. All imho of course.

I was about to reply but this ^^^^^ pretty much sums up my feelings on the issue.

Nothing wrong with subohm, cloud chasing, or cloud competitions when done by a knowledgeable person in a reasonably safe manner.

I took a friend that I was introducing to vaping into the nearest vape shop to her - hoping to introduce her to getting coils, maintance, juice testing. A sweet kid worked there, very nice but the shop had nothing but mechs, rebuildables. Not an ego or istick in site. It was a new shop, but still... Walked into a smoke and herbal shop where she gets her cigs and off to the side, there's ego's and evods.

I have no problem with sub-ohming and I enjoy people who are doing something they love (whether I understand it or not). I guess my concern at this point is that major manufacturers are introducting "use" specific items and it's not always made clear. When I first started vaping, all rebuildables and mechs say "for advanced users only" and I ignored them. I know I would like a silly label to that effect when something isn't made to use with a 1.2 coil or it performs best under specific conditions or it doesn't perform well with other equipment. How does the subtank work with an ego? I think the lines are getting blurry in this area.

You could wrap a 2 ohm 32gauge coil on the subtank rba head and hand that to a new vaper with an eGo battery.
He could vape that for a while, and have the option to rebuild his own coils.

Well, I tried to point out to the first one that 0.2 ohm pulls 21A, which leaves a safety margin on a 30A battery. He told me his wife is an expert builder and she vapes 0.1ohm all the time. This was on a mech, and I assmed one battery, not dual in parallel. I think he said it was a Stingray he got IIRC. No one even backed me up on that thread. Its not like I'm being overly cautious here.

The lowest I build is 0.4ohm and I've always gotten a satisfactory vape on a mech. Heck, I have builds over 1 ohm I vape on mechs and get good flavor and decent clouds (Eviva-t and Erlkonigin).

The second wants to do it on an Orchid, which I think will melt the insulators.

I am the first guy. I KNOW and always have known that the build I was using exceeded my VTC4 but alas I dont wish to start an argument...I am not the ONLY person who vapes at 0.1 ohm though, not even close.

I am not a newb and I understand battery safety and ohms lawn and all that good stuff. I also respect your intelligence and opinion because I can tell you know a good amount of stuff related to this HOWEVER I see a lot of people doing .1 ohm coils with ONE "35amp" E Fest and as far as I know thats really a 20amp cell and I personally have not seen a tragic accident. If you want to vape at a higher resistance please go ahead but I would appreciate if you didnt paint me in a bad light or act as if I am stupid. I am just here to learn more and enjoy the forum you do as you wish. Either way I got no problem with ya my friend.

I've just read my second thread in less than a week from someone who just got a mech or an RBA and immediately wants to vape at 0.1 ohm. Are we not doing a good job here teaching people Ohm's Law and battery safety? I guess this might explain the recent rash of battery accidents. Is it B&Ms telling people this is how they should vape?

Not sure, but it concerns me :( Potential for more accidents in public, and what if there are children in the home?

People, please don't push batteries past their limits, and learn Ohm's Law before delving into building.

OP did not state if this customer was a new vaper. Only stated that a person came in, bought a mech mod, and requested for his build to be 0.1. Maybe, we can assume since we are doing so, that the customer who asked for the low build knew already what he/she is getting into. I've come across many who do vape super sub-ohm builds and have yet to see any repercussions from their vaping habits. I'll retract to my original post; batteries have cdr and pulse. Who defines what continous and pulse is? If it's in the range of usage...is it still not acceptable for the battery?

Except they wouldn't know how to coil, or have wick and wire, or some way to meter it. If you did hand them all that, chances are they'd buy a pack of cigs instead.

IN a siingular word,

Its "COMPETITION".

The word has no place in vaping, since a battery is involved. WE have nothing to prove to anyone, there is no need for the natural progression of human nature by making it competitive.

Cloud blowing DISPLAYS is much more useful word in this context, without any of the competitive nature attached. If a battery blows up it blows up, but it wont be because it was a competition.

BUT, you ever tried to tell a kid what to do? ESPECIALLY A "KID" that just turned 18!

However my test equipment for that car engine cost closer to $50,000

You're gonna melt an insulator!

But in all seriousness what really boggles my mind is the high wattage box mod trend and people STILL want to build stupidly low. It's all a status thing. When you can crank out 150 or 13 watts at the touch of a button there is really no reason to build super low.

I had a friend who's been vaping for a while call me recently. He had been using an MVP and a Nautilus Mini, some Kanger Aerotanks, etc. He then got an Istick. So he's not using junk, but I was sure he had no idea what Ohms law was, let alone how to use it. He told me he bought a mech (he didn't know why it was called that) and a bunch of no name junk batteries. He also got an Igo W with air holes the size of donuts. He wanted to know how to make lower ohms so he could blow bigger clouds. I told him I'd come over and give him a lesson. I showed him Badittude's blog and gave him 2 VTC4s. He said "Expletive! I could have blown myself up??? I've been using this stuff for a few weeks! I had no idea!"

Evidently the shop where he got all this stuff wasn't too helpful. Showed him how to wet his wicks and sent him out the door. No idea how to check the resistance of his build, no idea that batteries can hurt you, nothing. Lower ohms=more clouds is about the only thing he took away from this shop.

I've got him set straight now, but stuff like this really isn't helping. Knowledge is power folks.
