Wow nice collection, and thank you Sedge, Qorax and everyone else for all the information... I am looking at buying my first rebuildable in a week or so after I do a bit more research.. This post has given me a lot to think about and answered some questions I had..

Keepsmiling asked about swapping the base of a Tilemahos for an AFC.. What is this?

The Tilemahos comes with two bases. The standard base has a hole down through the center post. The second base it comes with has a closed center post, but it has an airflow control ring at the bottom.

Thank you and welcome to the thread.

AFC stands for air flow control. Some atomizers allow you to adjust the resistance of the air flow. Others only have one setting.

Some atomizers' airflow comes out of the side, and others come out of the 510 connector.

If you are using one where air flow comes out of the 510 connector, then the mod that you put it on must have grooves, slots, or holes, in its 510 connector to allow for air flow to get to the atomizer.

If the atomizer has air flow coming out of the side, then the mod need not have any air flow channels.

Here is the Tilemahos base with 510 airfow. Notice the small hole at the top of the threads and in the positive pin.

Here is the AFC base. There is a side air hole with a ring that allows one to adjust the opening to suit one's individual preferences. Notice too that the 510 pin has no hole. It is sealed. Disregard the brass ring at the base. It is a hybrid connection for Le Petit Gros and not part of the Tilmanhos base.

Right. But when I took off the bottom there is a copper or brass pin sticking out with an o-ring on it, and a little wheel. Does that part come off before the other one goes on? I do not see how those could/would fit together. The afc bottom has threads in the center.. Maybe I should take pics?
These will be the three parts removed from the Tilemahos when switching to AFC.

The base, the 510 pin and the oring.

Heron is from GP. They also have the Spheroid.

Prometey is from Titanium Mods from Ukraine.

Both companies sell the fluff or filler. Other folks use some aquarium filter media.

Its cheap enough from either vendor, and both of great quality that each has been tested in the devices. The two each vendor sells are slightly different from each other.

A piece lasts forever, and can be washed dried and reused. It's so cheap though that I don't bother.

The attys that use filler like the Heron, and I think the Prometeyv2, where do you get it from? How long does it last? Do you wash it and reuse it?

TOP FIVE FILLER MATERIAL (for Spheroid, Heron, Aiolos & Prometey):

1. GP FLUFF: http://www.vapourart.com/en/product/gp-fluff-version-2
2. SERA:
3. VARIOUS: Amazon.com: aquarium filter wool
4. ACUREL: Acurel Acurel Filter Fiber Floss Aquarium Filter Mechanical Media
5. JUWEL: http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/Pro...act.html?force_sid=skntc8pdlp4jl9al5d1e10mjp7

*They all last a while, can be washed and reused

Ok..one more issue. The center part was spinning, and would not connect. So I tightened it, but now my posts stop at the opening where the wick tails should be. Do I tighten it more, or loosen it?
Can you post pics. I'm lost by your description. Sorry.

Mine with the AFC is full and just rebuilt or I'd break it down and do a rebuild pictorial. My wife is using it so I can't really pull it out of her hand. Lol.

Well I went with just offset a bit. I was still able to pull the wick into place. Filled it{what a breeze!} and finally figured out how to get my just GG set up.
Woot..we have ignition, and it is SWEET!:vapor:
I will post a pic next time I have it open. In other words what I was trying to say, is my post screws lined up with the wick channels. If you hold the base and consider the wick channels as three and nine o clock, my post screws should stop at twelve and six o clock, but they don't seem to want to go that far. I didn't want to force it.

Ok I found out what I did wrong. Amazingly it is working though... I can fix it after this tank. Imeo explained I was supposed to put the new center pin at the end, then line up the pos. and neg. posts in the correct spot, then tighten. I missed a step. I just screwed the deck down into the afc, which already had the post in it.
