But, would the Provari spit out error codes?

Sometimes I have a short that causes an error code immediately upon firing the button

Sometimes it only gives an error code at the end of a long, long drag

Sometimes I get no error code at all, but I know something is wrong because it tastes like crap and the ohms read WAY off (I always check the coil minus the wick first)

So, maybe not :)

Just thinking about a top coil eating through the mesh, that really sounds like a short to me. Why is that coil getting hotter than the rest?

I think .8 ohms for 5 wraps of 28g is correct and not shorting just playing with fire. Very low ohms are very sensitive to voltage, even .1v makes a difference. Bring that voltage down to 3v that is still over 3 amps.

You know Ob, when I get all frustrated, I rip it apart, make a new wick, torch/juice it a few times, grab my packet of rolling paper/training wheels, put a layer of paper on there and calmly and slowly wrap a nice soft lightered piece of kanthal lovingly around it, flash it up a few times, blow off the ash, fill with juice and tell yourself over and over that genny devices don't completely suck...there are times when I can rebuild my genny's drunk on horseback wearing boxing gloves then there are times....

emonty's 5/6 28g on a larger 70mm wick was only 1 ohm so ob's 5 on 60mm looks right on .8 ohms.

I'm running 500/30 on a ZAU tonight. So far it seems pretty good.... 30 AWG seems a lot harder to coil then 32. I had to remove that weird clear thing in the ZAU wick hole to fit it (what the hell is that?!?!). Probably fit about 60mm in there - I didn't measure so I'm not sure.

Thanks to all the pioneers on this in here. It's stuff like this that keep these forums interesting (for me, at least).

It is a insulator. Used to help with shorting. Meaning preventing them.

I have to say so far, I'm not crazy impressed or noticing a huge difference with the larger wicks. That being said, I'm still using #400 as my 500 is taking forever to get here. I'm hoping that I have the great success the rest of you are having when it shoes up.

Bj. 3.7 volts. Using it on a non vv right now

Quigs. I swear I almost gave up on Genny's today for good I was so annoyed.

Evil. Why are we not hanging out? Your local!

Heh, you know where to find me! :)

The improvement is incremental. You don't have to worry about the angle of the device and leaking is less of an issue. I've only had this going for a little while, but I'd say thin walled wicks can perform about as well - you just have to regulate how you tip the unit to change the flow of liquid.

Insulator, eh? I should really look in the HoH thread more often...

ob: 3.7 v on .8 ohm is 17 watts most juices burn. More wraps or lower voltage. I have had vg actually burst in flame at 17 watts. Take that coil to 1 ohm and 13 watts and you should see a big difference.

So you mean add a wrap?

I'm not using a vv so I can't get the wattage higher.

Yes 5/6 wrap, but as it is 4 full turns and two times a half I call it a 4 wrap. As the resistance went up because gunk has build up on the coil it now reads 1 ohm. On the provari I get it working at 3.7 amp, the provari has a limit of 3.5 amps but it works, dunno why but not 100% consistent. Anyway not going to run it on the Provari anyway, I prefer to use a mechanical mod for these kind of setups.

Ok here is the proof for anybody doubting the Provari cannot run higher then 3.5 Amps.

It is not 100% stable as a small short will give an error.
