@ ob: What voltage are you starting at?
Start at the lowest voltage you can.

But, would the Provari spit out error codes?
Sometimes I have a short that causes an error code immediately upon firing the button
Sometimes it only gives an error code at the end of a long, long drag
Sometimes I get no error code at all, but I know something is wrong because it tastes like crap and the ohms read WAY off (I always check the coil minus the wick first)
So, maybe not
Just thinking about a top coil eating through the mesh, that really sounds like a short to me. Why is that coil getting hotter than the rest?
I think .8 ohms for 5 wraps of 28g is correct and not shorting just playing with fire. Very low ohms are very sensitive to voltage, even .1v makes a difference. Bring that voltage down to 3v that is still over 3 amps.
I'm running 500/30 on a ZAU tonight. So far it seems pretty good.... 30 AWG seems a lot harder to coil then 32. I had to remove that weird clear thing in the ZAU wick hole to fit it (what the hell is that?!?!). Probably fit about 60mm in there - I didn't measure so I'm not sure.
Thanks to all the pioneers on this in here. It's stuff like this that keep these forums interesting (for me, at least).
Bj. 3.7 volts. Using it on a non vv right now
Quigs. I swear I almost gave up on Genny's today for good I was so annoyed.
Evil. Why are we not hanging out? Your local!
ob: 3.7 v on .8 ohm is 17 watts most juices burn. More wraps or lower voltage. I have had vg actually burst in flame at 17 watts. Take that coil to 1 ohm and 13 watts and you should see a big difference.
Sure the count is off a bit but...what I'd like to know...do you have a special gauge to space your wraps or do you use digital callipers?

So you mean add a wrap?
I'm not using a vv so I can't get the wattage higher.
Did not think it would be possible but just got 100 mm of #500 wick in a 2.5 mm hole.
