Hi, Don ... great to hear from you. I've read many of your posts, and enjoy your insight and humor.

I use mostly 36mg/ml, and it doesn't satisfy. I have some 60, but I don't feel comfortable vaping ir straight.

I got an 801 passthrough, running on my 5v 2000ma usb hub. I read several threads saying 5v is the sweet spot for flavor on the 801. What a disappointment. I experienced zero flavor except for a metalic taste. Strangely, the 801 is the only e-cig to give me a metalic taste.

I would love to get a battery mod, if I could find an atty that works for me!

This brings up an interesting point. I run my KR8's @ 2000 ma on my usb hub. On a trip, I recently forgot my hub, and had to go to a local computer store to get a hub. It was @ 500ma, and produced NO flavor and NO satisfaction.

That's one of the things that I DO like about my 510's. The switch is great!

I would love to get a Chuck or Prodigy or XHaler, if only I could find an atty (or Whole Tobacco Alkaloid, but that's a different thread) that works for me!

Rick.

Have you looked into the new Chameleon? Its here somewhere...sorry i cant be more help but it comes with various attys, ie: 510 801 901. It is very versitale and user friendly. Nice smaller size and vapes like a maniac. The wait can be frustrating but from what I hear (I have a friend that has one and she is one of those gals that knows practically every mod out there) she says it beats out most everything shes tried. The nice thing is that the button for the manual batts are a separate piece and can be cheaply replace. Plus you can take advantage of whatever attys are on sale..your not locked into one type of atty. If it was crap she would be the first to say so. Here name is Hellen A. Handbasket and can be found in the Vaping in Phoenix club. She has tremendous knowledge so if you want look her up and PM her. Im sure she would be glad to give you the specs. Im gonna put that on my wish list for sure.

That's interesting. I thought Hellen was wedded to her Little Chuck. [Not literally, although that imp in her signature logo is.;)]

Rick, we are now well beyond my dilettante knowledge. Why don't you put this to the Ask The Experts? [They let me play there, but only on the easy stuff, e.g., Which has more puffs per battery charge: a 100 mAh super-mini or a Chuck with a 3000 mAh 18650 battery? I scratch my head for a few minutes and answer: A 510 passthrough!]

I gotta recommend the Xhaler here. I ordered mine on a Friday and was vaping at 5V+ the following monday evening trying various flavor/atty/voltage combos. (Except I didn't order the cartomizer adapter until yesterday so I expect to try GreenCig carts tomorrow most likely) My next experiment will be to order some 3.7V batteries and high resistance atomizers just to see if I like them.

I didn't care for the 801 or 901 attys at all when I first tried them, but after a few days of getting used to them I am starting to come around, but so far I've gotten the most satisfying giant clouds of delicious vapor with the 510 atty. There is something especially satisfying when I'm producing more vapor than the smoke from my friends' analogs.

I haven't tried this combo yet, but I suspect that your best bet of recreating the analog experience is going to be Nhale/Xhale Kent at 7.4V with a high voltage 510 atomizer...and keep some Java flavor Stonewall dissolvables on hand in case you still feel like you are missing something.

Maybe you just have a bad atty. I got my 510 2 weeks ago and one of the attys acts a hell of a lot different then the other. It's like night and day.

Atomizers certainly can be fidgety! If it's not wet enough, you can burn it out on the first use, but if it's TOO wet it can flood and you'lll end up with more frustration than satisfaction until you get it properly cleaned and broken in.

Don, you're way too modest. And I had to Google dilettante to know what you were saying. :)

But I respect your opinion, so I will indeed "Ask The Experts", although I view you as an expert extrordinaire.

Rick.

Thank you, Rick! Yes, I do know a little bit about a lot of things (i.e., dilettante); I had to acquire such to prepare that WWV Illustrated Guide of mine. But I have no technical expertise, e.g., I have no idea what a "2000ma usb hub" is.

Yeah, I see your ATE question. However, you didn't mention that esoteric stuff. Hope you'll get some additional ideas from my fellow "experts." ß those quotes are applicable only to me, not to my ATE cronies.

Your Wonderful World of Vaping Illistrated Guide will go down in history as a masterpiece. I can't imagine the hundreds of hours you put into it, and I don't think anyone else would tackle such a project.

Thank You!

Rick.

But I have no technical expertise, e.g., I have no idea what a "2000ma usb hub" is.

Here's from "How Stuff Works"
The three most basic units in electricity are voltage (V), current (I, uppercase "i") and resistance (r). Voltage is measured in volts, current is measured in amps and resistance is measured in ohms.
A neat analogy to help understand these terms is a system of plumbing pipes. The voltage is equivalent to the water pressure, the current is equivalent to the flow rate, and the resistance is like the pipe size

Since the USB hub has 2000 amps of current, it means that it can provide a current of (up to) 2000 "milliamps" (imagine 2000 units--say gallons--of water flowing through a system of pipes), and has 5 volts of pressure (the pump is pushing the water through the pipes at a rate of 5 units--say gallons/hr).

Therefore, if you want 5 volts of pressure, the amount of current you're going to need depends on resistance (size of pipe).

It's my understanding that a 510 atomizer requires about 2200-2500milliamps of current when operating at 5 volts. So if you were to plug a 510 atty straight into this USB hub you speak of, it would be running at almost 5 volts. This is in contrast to the USB port on most computers which operate at only 500mA meaning they won't be enough to run at 5V, which is why most USB passthroughs have a battery in-line: it means the max current is limited by the output of the battery which is usually rated at 3.7V, but a fully charged battery runs at about 4.2V so as long as the PT is charged and plugged in (thereby constantly recharging between puffs) you can theoretically get up to 4.2V to your atomizer (less if the battery doesn't provide the current to keep up with the resistance needs of the atomizer).

Also of note is the fact that batteries are rated in Milliamp Hours. So if your atomizer/voltage combination requires 2500mA, a 750mAH battery would be expected to operate for up to 18 minutes continuously (540 2 second drags or 216 5 second drags) Therefore if you were talking about a 2000mAH USB battery pack, it would be good for 576 x 5 second puffs...If you figure 15 puffs per analog replaced at 20 analogs per day, that's almost a full 2 days--not too shabby. :)

This is by no means a flame, but in all honesty it is threads like this which are making it very difficult for people who are trying to make an educated decision on which device they should purchase. Remember that people are here in order to make an educated decision on stepping into the world of vaporizing. Why on earth is it necessary for some people to proclaim that a device is horrible simply because they can't figure out how to use it properly?

I just ordered my 510 kit from Nhaler.com. I am highly excited for its arrival as I have seen phenomenal reviews from credible users that consistently give honest and thorough reviews of many devices that are currently on the market. That being said, there are tons of reviews written by a plethora of users whether seasoned or new to vaping that hold the 510 in very high regard as well.

My problem with your... wait, this isn't even a review... My problem with your bashing the 510 is that you offer no substance within your statement, thus leaving us with pointless words that make no difference for someone who is even somewhat intelligent. I'm sorry but this just seems like a waste of disk space on some lonely server somewhere...

This is one long thread man, I only got up to 119, I'll read more some other time.

You give use no real information other then to say the 510 is pathetic, no taste, no throat hit, no vapor, over and over again.

Some info would be nice like:

I’ve been smoking reds for 40 years a pack and a half a day and decided to try the PV 901.

Since I bought this device I cut down to 4 to 5 analogs a day but still miss the analogs.

I would wake up try my 901 have some coffee and grab a cigarette then vape awhile and have another cig after a few hours.
Oh that’s me!

So today when I got up and had no cigarettes anywhere, so I started with the 901 huffed and huffed away had some coffee and huffed some more. I then did all the moring things and started off to one of my clients, huffed in the car all the way.

At some point mid morning I no longer had any desire for an analog. Then about 4:00 one of the guys was coming in from having a smoke, I asked can I have a ...., sure you need a light, no thanks I’ll smoke it on my way home.

So after I smoked it I noticed I now had an urge to have another so when I got home I grubbed from my wife and kids to get my 4 to 5 butts in for the day, sick a!

So my opinions are:
There is something in analogs that make you want more of them.

As for flavor cigarettes taste like what, cigaretes. These at least have some different tastes even though not much of anything yet.

Vapor, this 901 vapes just fine looks just like an analog.

Throat hit if I take a long slow hit over 4 seconds I get a great TH and cough up lungy!

The poly taste simply sucks, I tried a coffee filter screen mod but when the battery goes into clean mode(which I hate) it seems to taste a bad for a while.

I now am dripping with no cart, a half a twist before I put it down so no clean mode, what I get is warm vapor but a little harsh, gee just like a cigarette.

Dry throat, yes, PG will do this maybe try a VG mix but I still get dry and drink a lot more water.

Opinion are like .......s everone has one!

Good luck to all of us!

That's why I started this thread. Our industry is sadly lacking, and even the favorite gives me extremely little relief.

I just ordered my 510 kit from Nhaler.com.

So you haven't even tried it, but you know how well it works. Interesting.

My problem with your... wait, this isn't even a review... My problem with your bashing the 510 is that you offer no substance within your statement

What would you like? Measurements of the resistance of my atties? Voltage readings?

There are claws in my chest almost all the time. Are you saying that I should ignore the claws and pretend that the 510 satisfies?

I hope the 510 works better for you than it works for me. My quest continues.

Rick.
