As we all know, vaping is under fire, by both federal and state, and being looked at very closely for it's safety and whether or not it should be regulated. The government has to put their nose in everything we do and deem it "ok" for us to do or not. Not to mention tax the crap out of it, if they think they should.

For some of us, vaping has become a hobby, and a love of collecting or building devices. For others, like myself, it's to keep from going back to cigarettes and other dangerous forms of tobacco use.

I'm a 25+ year smoker, who found vaping, and haven't looked back for almost three years now. I love the freedom of vaping in a lot of the places I frequent (work, bars, restaurants... etc.), but I'm afraid this hobby is getting out of control, and our freedom to vape could be in jeopardy if we continue at this pace.

A lot of people are building, for lack of better terminology, dangerous devices! We are stacking high power batteries, sub-ohming atties, and pushing every limit we have to date. With this practice, it's just a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured, or worse yet, killed by a device meant to save us from the dangers of smoking. We need to rethink our vaping and what it really was designed to do.

We know how pitbulls are illegal in a lot of places, because of their known aggressiveness... and they have killed. Also "assault rifles" are under MUCH debate because of crazed people who us them in the wrong manner. I'm a gun guy, who owns many firearms, and have never even thought of using them to harm anyone, but since a few have, ALL of our rights to own these firearms could be taken with just a few votes. I could go on with many other examples of how or freedoms are stripped because of a few bad seeds.

This same problem can fall on us vapers if people start blowing up a simple mod and injuring themselves or people around them. I know you have the right to do what you please with your device and atties, but just because we can, should we?

In short, we need to keep this freedom of vaping available to us. Our right to vape, right now, is already shaky and under the watchful eyes. We have the responsibility, as vapers, to prove to the world that it IS safer than smoking and that it should be allowed in public venues. WE CAN keep vaping legal, but not if we make it dangerous or lethal to ourselves and others.

Sorry, this wasn't meant to upset anyone, but to keep us thinking about how easy our freedoms can be stripped by the mistakes of just a few.

for the most part, I have to agree with your post.. the USA has yet to tell us all, each and every.. what when or how to live our lives.

take this bit here you put:

This same problem can fall on us vapers if people start blowing up a simple mod and injuring themselves or people around them. I know you have the right to do what you please with your device and atties, but just because we can, should we?

some of this is true, but on the other hand., how is anything to be created that is safe, and determined it is safe, unless it's been tested.. how are creators to have ideas and try new things out?? blowing up on purpose tho, is a different story, and like a bullet, it doesn't mean the gun is bad, it's what the motivation is behind shooting.

the best thing we can do is each keep an eye, like voting, and work it from local to county, to state and country. Watch what you say yes and no to. that is the only way to keep it open as a viable option to us all.

But on the other hand, to play devils advocate, if it weren't for those that have come before us building better mods, trying to make crappy things better, we wouldn't have what we are enjoying today. I thank god for those people or I probably wouldn't have continued to vape if I only had those early devices to use.

It really depends on how you look at it. I know of people that are experimenting with twisted cable to make a better wicking device. Granted they know all about safety and all that stuff that one needs to know to do this safely. I don't advocate that someone with no knowledge go about experimenting. But how else will we find what works the best? I'm really glad that someone came up with the clearo to hold more liquid, and that someone thought of the idea to wrap a wire around the wick.

Just my thoughts.

:)

We know how pitbulls are illegal in a lot of places, because of their known aggressiveness... and they have killed.

I like this comparison, because I think they're both absolute horse :censored:. The pit bull thing *really* bugs me.

All animals can be dangerous if they're trained to be dangerous. Pit Bulls are only different from Chihuahuas because they're bigger.

I can understand apartment complexes having a weight limit to prevent damage to their property, but as far as laws go...that's one set of laws that I will under no circumstances ever follow. They're unjust and ridiculous. I don't care what the penalties are. I don't care if someone trained their dog wrong and it hurt someone, put the preson in jail for animal cruelty and send the dog to a rescue center. That will not ever affect the kind of dog I choose to keep.

There's no :censored: :censored: reason for it.

Despite my little dog I firmly feel that way, and I know that people will feel similarly about high-power vaping. Forgive me if you were trying to make a different point, but all that regulation will do is make these things more dangerous, potentially make it harder for people to find information, and make it harder to spread knowledge.

So will just saying "don't do it" to all the people pushing limits. They're going to do it anyway if they don't understand the details. And that's where the problem lies.

And what you seem to be suggesting is asking the community to pre-emptively avoid things that might become regulated in the future because some people could use them wrong. That doesn't sound like you're protecting freedom to me. That sounds like you're giving it up so the gov't doesn't have a chance to take it.

I do agree with you in that we need to be careful. Mostly, we need to not be cheap. Good batteries and good chargers, $10 for a safety fuse...they don't cost that much compared to cigarettes. I'm happy about the stink that came up about the non-vented telescope from that one review. And, I'm happy about the Groove recall, even if Smoktech isn't handling it properly (and that it's the second near death trap they've released that I know of).

But .....ing to us isn't going to fix it. AFAIK, the people here for more than a thread or two are easily leaning towards if not firmly in the hobbyist category. I think vendors need to just not give people an option to buy crap batteries and chargers if possible and explain why. That would probably solve a lot of the potential problems.

Also, not everyone is vaping because they wanted to quit cigarettes. I did end up quititng smoking, but it was never my intention. I just think vaping is better. The day that it's not, I'd probably go back.

Dont let them cause you to live in fear or theyve all ready won. I have a right to be stupid and build all of the sub OHM coils I desire. I dont think stacking bats is much of an issue. Most know its not a good idea unless the mod is designed to do so.
We Have Batteries like MNKE that have the AMP rating to handle sub OHM coils.
Accident prevention legislation is a load of crap thats been rammed down your throat. Its a shame people stand for it. Those who trade safety for freedom deserve tyranny and oppression. This applies to a much broader spectrum than ecigs.

You and I BOTH know Pitbulls aren't dangerous, if trained right, just like my guns are safe, because I use EVERY safety I can to protect myself and others. I also know, that these extreme moders help find new way to enjoy vaping and make it better for all of us.

Like I said, I'm not trying to ruffle feather, but we need to keep it safe so that we can keep our right to vape. Telling vendors not to sell an unsafe battery could help, but I, just like you, can buy cheap stuff off ebay all day long!

WE need to ensue that WE keep it safe, vendors can only do so much.

Freedom is not given these days... it seems to be earned.

Much like my guns .......You will have to pry my vape out of one hand and my gun out of the other if you want to take them away. If I wanted some jerkwad that sits at a desk, and makes up B.S. rules about how I should live my life to keep his paycheck rolling in I would have asked for it , but I sure as heck didn't nor will I obey his rules. While they are at it why don't they just rip apart the whole damn constitution (which no doubt they would if they could). This nanny government B.S. has got to be dealt with.. If they really wanted to say they are in it for the people of this country they wouldn't even think of touching ECIGs as they are actually helping people. Just my :2c:

This is a very true statement. We assumed it was a given we allowed it to be taken. Now we are seeing it goes very easily. We have to take it back at this point it wont be easy but still doable. We are headed down a path that will be our ruin if as a whole we dont wake up!

It's a double sided blade really with vaping. Yes people that play with sub Ohm and all that are taking a risk of a short causing a really dangerous problem. However they are also showing what we can do in vaping and paving the way for new and better professionally made devices and delivery systems. If stacking is so popular then better safer meant to be stacked devices will come out like the stackable 1350s you see in so many VV/Vw devices.

We are in a new new new stage of vaping and what it can and can't do. It's extremely open to experimenting and personal exploration of what it can do for us. The best things can happen at this point. I am getting into RBA soon here myself and I want to play across the range to find what works for me. However I know the risk if I do something new that might potentially end up with a really nasty battery situation. I plan to take precautions and have solutions that will counteract what might occur.

I will admit though that some times people are just idiots with things and will ignore even basic common sense safety ideas. Those are the ones who will make the news. however we can help by putting up good safety information for people that want to take their vaping to the next level.

I'm in NO way saying we should stop inventing and growing vaping mods, atties and all things great, but stop pushing it to the point that it can cause harm!

Yes, a fuse, protected batteries can help make it safer, but all it takes is ONE fail to know what one 18650 can do to your FACE!

Buzzzlove The word that keeps popping up in my mind is "Revolution" show the American people just how many worthless politicians and government workers they employ, how much they make, their duties on paper compaired to what they make, and I can almost guarantee that would spark enough anger to start one lol. I've looked at what past president's make a year AFTER they have been president and it sickens me. When I was a construction worker after the job ends so does your pay then you have to find a new job. Not so in our government though.

Somewhere out there
It is all about freedoms. We all want the right to vape and the right to fiddle and tweak, we also have the right to blow something up if not done properly. There are alot of dangerous things in the world, many of them are not dangerous until in the hands of an uneducated user. It comes down to intent, what is intended use? Lawn mowers are quite dangerous, they don't outlaw them. Farming is one of the most dangerous professions, that is not outlawed. It is just how people look at things and how they use the device or equipment. No one would put their arms under a running lawn mower to free a branch, right? Well I am sure someone has! bnrk

This is why I believe in as little gun control as possible. There's this thing called tyranny... WE are the lone hombres to stop tyranny! lol

Da300Mann That is the very reason WHY the founding fathers put the 2nd amendment in the constitution ;) Ratified in December 1791, the amendment says:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

James Madison originally proposed the Second Amendment shortly after the Constitution was officially ratified as a way to provide more power to state militias, which today are considered the National Guard. It was deemed a compromise between Federalists — those who supported the Constitution as it was ratified — and the anti-Federalists — those who supported states having more power. Having just used guns and other arms to ward off the English, the amendment was originally created to give citizens the opportunity to fight back against a tyrannical federal government.

Yes truly amazing when you start looking in to things how corrupt the system truly is! Edward Snowden is not a trader because he leaked secrets he is a trader because he has a continence. He could not trade 100,000 for his self respect and patriotism. This sum. He is a flaw in the system he threatens not our way of life but those who exploit our vast collective income. (Tax dollars) All of us can see the corruption in government and corporation politics with our ecigs. Its a much larger scale with everything else.

Well, me growing up in the south, we learned at a young age to use firearms properly AND how to protect ourselves, if needed.

This is the reason I posted what I did today. We need to protect our rights as vapers, and insure we keep them safe, so that we can, hopefully, be able to use them ANYWHERE we choose!

If we start blowing doors off our vaping lairs, hmmm... I could lose the right to vape at home! :grr:
