Even more disheartening than the possibility that some super-sub-ohm, crazy mech using freak blew himself up is that so many here just automatically assume it was some super-sub-ohm, crazy mech using freak. I often wonder if we aren't our own worst enemy. I should probably remove myself from this "discussion" before I earn the ban hammer.

I personally wasn't assuming anything. The original post, before edited, said it happened at a cloud chasing competition and that is what I responded to.

He said the Guy was Drenched from Head to Foot with Axe Body Spray and was in the process of Dry Burning a 2.8 Ohm Vivi Nova head when the Explosion and issuing Fire occurred.

If you put a few million mods out in the wild, a few will blow up. You can't stop it, especially because you can't stop stupid. As was mentioned earlier, cell phones can blow up too. Every event will be used to take away our rights, regardless of reasonableness. That is the way of the modern world. You can't make these things 100.000% safe regardless of the stupid factor. buy 'em while you can.

Regulation will not stop regulated mods either, the OKR-T chips and the Raptor chips are not made for vaping they are just power regulation chips for the electronics industry.



There are a lot of arguments there, but I was not looking for an argument. I think mechanicals should be available for the same reason I think people should be able to own guns. Last time I checked the claim was that we live in a "free" country, what ever that means these days. Whatever the activity is, baking cookies, making hot dogs, growing tomatoes, driving a car, or "blowing clouds" Someone is going to come along and want to do it bigger, faster, longer, larger than the person before them. There is a world book of records for some of this silly stuff.

At the end of the day high risk activities are a negligible impact on health care and tax dollars, politicians and rich people hurt the bottom line the most. That brings us to the next thing, people blowing clouds, or part of their faces off are not going to be the death knell for "free vaping" Those same politicians and rich people who are losing their precious tax dollars and sales revenue are going to be the ones that sign the warrant, and it won't be for fringe incidents. It will be some made up something that serves as an excuse to protect the bottom line.

Other than that I agree. We need to self regulate this IMO. Standardize training for shops and do a best practices for cloud comps. We dont need the government to do the regulation.
When a dude explodes his mod in public he should be held responsible for the damages. Just like when a guy drives his car through liquor store. Are hit and runs a possibility? Sure, but we arent banning cars. Think about all the money the government could take if they mandated public transportation!

But my thinking is the same as some of you. All the regulations and rules in the world won't stop the bigger, better, faster mind set. I'm in the same category (with cars, not vaping).

We can only do so much to inform people of the reality of smoking alternatives but we're never going to stop people from building unsafe devices. It is a personal choice. Just like owning firearms. I have lots of guns. I don't go around harming myself or others. I use them safely. But i don't want the gov or anyone telling me i can't own them because some loser holds up a bank.

Or a because of a tragic school shooting... I want our schools to be safe too... but I think the answer is more guns, not less (them teachers should be trained and packing heat - not all of them, but the ones that can qualify and desire to carry a fire arm). IMO more armed citizens makes for a safer community - "Dont rob that house, you'll get your face shot off"

It's hard to draw a parallel with vaping - at the end of the day it is a recreational thing. Its not like driving a car because you cant ride your vaporizer to work (yet! lol) and its not like a gun because it's primary use is not as a self defense piece (though if you roll up a NYTimes tight enough even that could be a self defense piece). Maybe you could draw parallels to hobbyists that make their own gocarts, or airplanes (manned air crafts)... but I dont think those are prevalent hobbies.. and they definitely arent taking large sums of money from interested parties (Gov't, BP, BT).

I personally do not mind race car drivers wanting to drive faster than the other nutcases in a little circle, some get hurt or worse. It is their choice.

If they do it at a racetrack, no problem.
If they do it on a public highway with other drivers around....not so much.

I do not mind skateboarders wanting to do flips higher than the other skateboarders, some get hurt or worse. It is their choice.

If they do it at a skatepark with other skateboarders, no problem.
If they do it on a crowded sidewalk with other pedestrians...not so much.

People here and other vaping sites complain about people cloud chasing wanting to regulate how they vape, when you scoff at these cloud chasers and state how stupid it is and that they shouldn't....

Hey, guess what, you just became part of the regulatory party.

/non-cloud blowing flavor chaser who sometimes safely volume vapes. It really is my choice.

Your freedom to throw a punch stops at the point it starts impacting my nose. Regulation of many things and behavior wouldn't and shouldn't be necessary if more people had just a little common sense.
