The statistical evidence. A study made by Adams, (p69), comparing fatality rates for
european states with and without seatbelt laws, both before and after such laws were
introduced, shows that these laws had an adverse effect on fatality rates in europe. A
similar study which we have made of the corresponding data in the United States of
America, (pp70-103), indicates that the introduction of seatbelt laws and, hence, the
increased use of seatbelts, had no discernable effect on the fatality rates in the United
States, based on NHTSA's own data. The raw data actually shows a slight increase, on
average, but this increase is within the margin of error of the data. In the United States,
fatality rates are based on estimates of total vehicle miles driven which are not known
precisely. Likewise, if we look at the effect of the passage of seatbelt laws in individual
states (pp70-103) we find that some states experienced a slight increase in fatality rates
following the passage of the law, while other experienced a slight decrease. Again, these
results are within the margin of error of the data. Thus, while the American data does not
prove that there was an increase in fatality rates following the passage of seatbelt laws,
neither does it show decrease. A study by Levine and Basilevsky, (pp104-105), based on
the Canadian data, showed a substantial increase in fatalities after passage of seatbelt
laws in Canada. This study was based on a smaller sample than the two studies mentioned
above but is significant because the authors had full access to police and hospital records
in the province of Manitoba over a seven year period during which the seatbelt laws were
passed in Canada. The study showed that almost the entire increase in fatalities was
among drivers wearing seatbelts.

Sounds to me like this is from people who study and research stuff....even seatbelt technology.

Sounds to me like this is from people who study and research stuff....even seatbelt technology.

The proper way to look at the data would be to determine how many would have survived fatal accidents if they had been wearing seat belts, rather than just look at total fatality rates after the passage of seat belt laws. It is silly to think one is not secure in a vehicle stands more of a chance of surviving an accident than one who is secured, but I tend to believe experts in the field-

You guy's are crazy! Have you consulted any mattress tag experts to determine if that is safe though?

The firearms industry isn't new and the manufacturers are worried about liability. There aren't unknowns as there are in a new industry. I want to know that a dual battery box mod, made by a faceless PRC company with no QC to speak of, isn't going to randomly explode near me, or that juices I buy don't contain ingredients, such as diecetyl.

We need the Government to Protect you from the Possibility of Anything Exploding near you. I think Everything that can Get Near you should be Regulated by Uncle Sam.

Even if the Chances of you being hurt by the Product that I am Using near you is Less that the Chances of me Winning the Powerball Loto on the Same Day I am Bitten by a Shark.

Let's just have the Government Regulate Everything. Just to be on the Safe Side.

We need the Government to Protect you from the Possibility of Anything Exploding near you. I think Everything that can Get Near you should be Regulated by Uncle Sam.

At the end of the day, I'm not saying that seat belts cause more fatalities or lead to more safety. What I am saying is that its not such a simple issue and there seems to be a healthy debate in regards to the conventional wisdom. But hey those experts eh....oh Steve tell me more about those experts buddy.

I prefer wrapping my own wicks. And mechanicals. No stinkin electronic or federally regulated mattresses for me, no sir.

I drove through richmond, va and dc yesterday. Dish (and other) rag people everywhere. Methinks they might be a majority vote.

We just need to give them more change for the bus so they can get to the poles.

I think the real question is what is there to fear from basic safety standards? It may add $.50 to the price of a mod? It is a fantasy world to believe e-cigarettes won't be regulated. The all or nothing approach will result in all...

I don't live in Canada, so choose to believe the study which concerns the US...
