There are a ton of vape shops here in town...lots of people in them all the time. But have seen few and far between in the wild. I have converted only 2 so far and they are not even friends...1 is my moms health day care provider, the other friend of my room mates...

I am the only one at work and they let me vape at my desk with people all around me :D But I am a lonely vaper in reality...

I actually joined this forum to be around other vapers. Having said that one of my friends is now a vaper and the other day I was there and his brother in law was doing some work for him in the garden. He spotted us vaping and came running in all excited with his MVP. Turned out he'd been vaping for months but had kept it a secret.

Now there are three of us.

One thing I have noticed is whenever I spot another vaper out and about we immediately say hello and start a conversation as though we're friends. I actually look out for them now.

Given the number of active ECF members i see here every day i would have thought i would have at least a few vaping acquaintances. But alas i am alone!! I live in a fairly populous area (the Jersey Shore) and work in mid-town Manhattan. When i take a vape break in front of my office i am a vaper surrounded by smokers. If i go out at home to a bar or restaurant and go out for a vape again its lonely old me out with the smokers. I guess either vaping hasn't caught on here yet or i am just hanging out in the wrong places. Ok enough whining from me i feel much better now!

I was in NYC recently and was shocked that I didn't notice anyone vaping. Also I thought I would find ton of B&Ms. Much toy surprise I didn't see any.
I live south Fl. and vaping seems to way more popular than in NY.

I used to be a lonely vaper - only one in my house, only one at work, only one of my friends.

Little by little - no pushing by me - the tide has turned and the majority of smokers around me in my life have switched. So, there is hope. Keep vaping the good vape.

Same here. Apart from the random co-worker who made the switch, my best story is about this fellow family of EX-heavy smokers.

It started with a guy and his wife. Some time later, it extended to the guy's father. Sooner, it was his mother-in-law...

(His mother in law would visit three or four convenience stores if needed, to get the ONLY tobacco brand she was used to. No other TOBACCO brand would suit her. And all of a sudden, she starts vaping NON-tobacco flavours...! )

Doing the math, that's around 14 (fourteen!!) cigarette packs that have stopped being sold. Everyday. :D

That's more than 40 Euros that our greedy Govt has stopped extorting them. Everyday, and from a single family...! :D :p

ETA: I forgot about the guy's stepmother !! That's maybe around 3 packs more to add to the math above...

Yeah same here, Most of my friends still smoke and poke fun at my MVP/Aero. They call it my C*^&%$ pipe..but they all take a hit of my new flavor. We have a Vapor Loft in town it's the only place I meet other vapors. But out and about I see no one vaping. It will get there my friends it will. As to NYC the did some kind of ban on e-cigs. I can't remember I have a friend in the City who vapes. I'll ask her what it is again.

Vaping has really taken off here in the UK (probably due to the ridiculously high tax rate on analogues) and vape shops have sprung up everywhere but I don't personally know any fellow vapers, but I am fine with that. I keep myself to myself most of the time anyway and thanks to online communities like EFC I by no means feel alone. :)

I live in Northern NJ and I rarely meet anyone who is into vaping. The people I do meet are people who are just dabbling with crappy stuff they buy from gas stations. The few vapers I have met (mostly in vape shops which I don't frequent) are pretentious ....... I personally dont; think this will ever be mainstreamed but who knows.

I used to be a lonely vaper. My brother's family started years ago, but they're in another state, so I rarely saw them or got to talk vape with them. My son started a few months before me, but he's a young daddy, busy, so we didn't see each other during that time.

I started while mu hubby and his side of the family still smoked. Suddenly, I was an outcast among smokers and nonsmokers alike, lol. Firs, I got mom-in-law on e-cigs - the cheap gas station cig-alikes. She had cancer and was more freaked about being locked up in the hospital without a smoke than she was about dying.

Then, sis-in-law wanted to quit, so I got her a kit. Our one year quit dates are coming up next month. I got my hubby a kit soon after, but he has really struggled. Finally, he's down to just a couple cigarettes per day.

But I still don't see them out and about. Of course, when I say out and about, it's just old lady errands like the grocery and pharmacy. I don't go to bars and such.

I did see a whole herd of them in Knoxville - very exciting!

People who start with the cheap stuff are just testing the waters... encourage them! If they enjoy what they're doing, support them!

I was SO intimidated by all the gear at first - and that's why I put off trying e-cigs at all. My first puff on a cheap gas station e-cig got me thinking and believing I could make the switch.

I am still not, and probably never will be, a gear guru. But I do know enough to answer some questions from curious wannabes.

A woman who wants to switch came up and started asking me about my e-cig. She'd tried the Blue and didn't care for it, but liked the idea. I told her the same thing someone told me, just buy a kit, whichever one you understand and can afford. Pick a juice, any juice. That's how you learn what you like. You waste a few bucks getting started, but you'll be saving in no time.

I am a lonely vapor.

About a year ago I decided to try the electronic thing. I started with an Ego/I clear type setup. One day I was checking out of a local lumber yard when the guy checking me out noticed my e-cig and got real excited and went into his little station and brought out his Mods, tanks, juices etc... He seemed very excited to spot a fellow vapor in the wild. That was likely the spark I needed to change from "I'll give this a try" to getting on the forum, watching Phil, Grimm, Rip, and now have my supply of Kanthal, Cotton, Rayon, DIYing liquid, etc...

But alas haven't really found anyone who gets as excited about the technology.

I am a lonely hobbyist.
