Does anyone else out there have a spouse that does not approve of vaping. We (my spouse and I) have had many conversations and she does not feel there is enough long term research to support vaping. She feels analogs are better because we KNOW what they will do to the human body, long -term.

I have stated that I feel better, smell better, etc. but she considers all of those effects to be short-term.

I will not stop vaping because I am free of analogs so we agreed to disagree.

I am interested to know if anyone else has had the same conversation, or a similar one.

Does "not approve of vaping" her juice count?

My wife and I both agree that it is impossible at this point to know whether or not there are any long term negative effects of vaping. Having said that, we also agree that we believe any long term negative effects of vaping that may come to light in the future are more than likely not nearly as bad as tobacco...so we're good with that.

Well it is true, not allot of long term research, but based on my own research it seems like vaping will save allot of lives in the long run! I think logic says that when you take 4,000 carcinogens out of the picture you are much better off!

Here is a link that may provide helpful information for you!

Marty...Yes, only on weekends when we are out with friends. So effectively she smokes one pack per week.

Hottody...I went to the link and I found that in the 'studies' section almost all researchers said that we don't know the long term effects and more stud is needed, effectively proving her point.

She is right. preliminary data DOES seem promising however, more study is needed. I will vape because of ALL the positive factors thus far.

yes as a matter of fact we argue about this topic all of the time. lately me feet have hurt so bad i want to cut them off at the knee's. she says it's burgers syndrome and i say B.S. but after 17 years with her i have learned that she is always right & i am always wrong(not) she says if that is the cause of my pain that i have to stop vaping and i told her i will never quit vaping but would switch to 0mg nic since that is the cause of the syndrome she also hates how much time i spend on the forum says i need to get i touch witj reality and i tell her this is the only place i know of with like minded people sorry for the long post guess i just need to get that off of my chest lol...

check out the Analysis section, although it's true that far more studdies are required, the CHANCES that vaping is WORSE than smoking iare very very low,,,,

In post #6 of this thread(link below)there is a Video from a Greek Cardiologist on Smoking vs. Vaping. It is almost 3hrs. long but I would encourage you to watch it, even if for a few minutes at the time. Also you may want to check out the ECF Health and Medical Issues sub-forum.

Marty

I watched that video. It IS very long. But, I consider that some time very well spent. The amount of information done in that research trumps anything that has been done to date as far as I can find. If you can talk her in to watching it with you, I think you will both find a wealth of information. Good luck to you!

Jay73, Just wait till you've been married for 30yrs. Then she will want you anywhere but around her...lol.

In all seriousness though I have to say that the DW has been more than supportive with me vaping. I spend whatever I need and spend countless hours here on ECF reading others experiences and learning. I used to smoke 3 1/2 pack a day, yes you read that right 70 cigs a day. Now there is no one in this world that will convince me(no matter their PHD)that smoking is safer than vaping or that vaping is just as dangerous as smoking. I started out at 24mg nic level and now I'm down to 10mg. 16 months later. It's been a journey that I've rather enjoyed.

You know when I started this I wanted something simple and just get on with life. I didn't want or need another hobby, but with the support from the folks here I just kinda wanted to hang out with like minded social folks. Even the non-smokers know that smokers have a social bond that binds no matter where they're from.

I definetely plan on watching the video. I do feel better knowing that others have had the same conversation.

I did ask "do you want me to chuck this thing and start smoking again?" Her reply was "I don't think you should put anything in your body in which you do not know the effects". She is also really opposed to medicine unless absolutely necessary. I, however, will pop a pill whenever I have a sniffle so we definitely do not agree on these issues. The one sticking point in our conversations have been that there is no long-term data, therefore I should do something else than vape. I tried chantix and I was nauseated and dizzy every morning. So bad I had a hard time driving to work, so I stopped.

This has also become a hobby since I do not play video games and I haven't procured my next corvette, YET! That does not sit well with her either. The fact that I stopped analogs and now I tinker with these 'toys' is another problem. I am always wrong and she is always right! Her theme song is little miss can't be wrong for those who remember that era.

My wife is an extremely intelligent and informed lady and she did her own independent research when I took up vaping a little less the three weeks ago.

Instead of treating it as a new addiction she whole heartedly jumped in to support me getting off analogs. She jumped in to a point that she offered to pay for half of any vaping stuff I wanted to buy. I warned her that it would be in the thousands of dollars in the first month and it didn't phase her. I'm horrible when it comes to new toys/hobbys I have to have everything.

I expected her to be completely against it but was pleasantly surprised.

Ughhhh the Chantix. Sometimes the cure is worse then the disease.

There are no long term studies on the effect of Chantix either. All I know is it made me feel much worse then when I was smoking. Vaping...well it's made me feel a lot better. I'm going to listen to my body on this one I think.

I have this problem myself my wife says the same thing that cigarettes are safer than inhaling "propofol" lol propylene glycol she doesn't want me vaping in the house so I said she can't smoke in the house. This has become a very big disagreement between us also my time spent on the forums talking to all of you who support vaping:D

Fortunately my wife, who's a non smoker, completely supports me and encourages me to convert others. I understand it's an addiction and also realize many unconverted smoking spouses are going to be resistant. It's kinda sad cuz they are now the lone smoker on the relationship. A's for longterm health aspects all I know is it's far healthier than smoking...my body tells me that on a daily basis. For certain smokers you could bring forward all the documentation in the world supporting Vaping and it wouldn't matter one bit cuz they feel threatened. Most of these unfortunates unfortunately will never ever "get it" and it's really quite sad. You could tell her the American Assoc. of Physicians and Surgeons believes there's no health risks associated with Vaping. You could also tel her at a presentation I gave to healthcare professionals 37 out of 43 would encourage smoking patients to vape. You could tell her my GP, Dentist and Surgeon are overjoyed that I've quit and am Vaping. None of this will change her mind BUT there's always hope. I volunteer/ counsel young people with addictions and believe me there were some clients I kinda had no nope for BUT one day something clicked within and them voila many of those now lead happy and fulfilled lives. A's for being active within ECF we all need this support group. Even though wife sports Vaping she's not a smoker so really can't truly understand. Married 35 yes and still LUVIN' every minute of it.
Hopefully you can lead by example and one day be there for her when does decide to try Vaping.
The Best of Luck to the both of you.

My husband's views are similar. He suspects that vaping is more dangerous than it's advertised to be, but he does prefer me using the e-cig over regular smoking. He just wishes I'd stop vaping now that I'm off the smokes and doesn't agree with the money I spend on supplies. He says I'm turning it into a "fetish"... whatever that's supposed to mean. It's certainly become a hobby and I don't deny that.

I have to say at first I got a lot of grief from the family, people even complained about the fruity smell or vaping in the car without the windows down. Now after a couple months it isn't so vocal now.. I think most people eventually understand your trying to do a good thing and it should be obvious to most compared to analogs vaping is a healthier alternative.
