I agree YoursTruli, vaping is such a subjective thing, everything from flavor to pg/vg ratios to coil builds affects each of us differently. When I started vaping I liked a higher pg level for that throat thump, now I don't want more than 50% pg, any more than that gives me a sore throat. Also hated any fruit vape for a long time, but here lately I like a berry blend now and then.

I felt the same way about fruit vapes myself, most tasted funky or sickly sweet and gave me a terrible headache but I picked up pink lemonaid from CravinVapes on a whim figuring I could give it to my son if it was yuck to me and I absolutely love it!

I do not keep them on a battery unless using when carrying them about. might give one a temporary pardon and try the upside down thing tomorrow.

So on the beach you lay on your back and vape upside down?
Either way it will work, the principal is the same, battery or not. Try it, works with any bottom coiled device...

I wouldn't say you have to be that extreme about it lol. If you're going to use it, just use it as you normally would. When you're finished, just drop it into anything that will keep the juice off the coil.

When I'm at a job, I have to leave my mod in the van. I have a Styrofoam cup in one of the cup holders that I drop my Kayfun/Mod into (with the tip down). Now that we've had temps into the 90's, a few hours in the van right side up would pretty much empty my tank. It spent 6 hours in the van today and not even a drop of juice was in the cup when I left the job...

Oy! It's a bit of a bear posting pix through the mobile app....

Yeah, those are great mods; it caught my eye when I was just browsing idly at FT, then I discovered the real Smok version, which is much better looking and apparently a great deal better quality. :thumb: I got my 3 Kicks also; great shipping from there! Those must be some long-legged cows! :D It felt weird just stashing them in the drawer, instead of ecstatically tearing into it and getting it going. I'm at a point at the moment where I don't really *need* anything, though I do plan to get another 120ml of nic on payday (Friday), and it's time to buy some more 30ml amber glass bottles, and I may go ahead and restock on PG/VG too; my husband got 60 hrs last week, so this check is going to ROCK -- one of his co-workers is out with a broken wrist, and his boss was on vacation last week, so he got a ton of OT. :thumb:

That's me too Andria. I just can't breathe very good after trying it. Besides even if I wasn't allergic to VG I wouldn't vape it anymore than I would inhaling wax. That stuff is nasty.

This is one reason why a one-solution-fits-most scenario doesn't work in vaping. I'm sensitive to PG. Somewhere around 40% I start with irritation. At 60% I get a raw, sore throat and nasal passages/sinuses. I keep my PG % to a max of 30 in my DIY. If I had additional problems similar to AndriaD & 5cardstud, I wouldn't be able to vape at all. So I'm always looking for setups that perform well with 70-90% VG.

I can't vape more than about 15%-16% VG or I just can't breathe. As far as I know, I'm not allergic to glycerin; I had severe acne in my teens, and I found Neutrogena soap very soothing, calming my skin down. But it just seems too heavy for my lungs; I start to feel it, like there's something in there I cannot cough up, no matter how hard I try. Then I wake up in the night with terrible asthma attacks, and that is scary -- so I keep the VG at a serious minimum. However I have also experienced that irritation from PG, when I once vaped 90% PG for about a week; my throat was cherry red, but I had no fever -- just burned raw throat, sinuses, and nasal passages. It was similar to a headcold but without any lower respiratory involvement -- my lungs do fine with 90% PG, but my upper respiratory passages can't handle that much.

Good thing I love TH, I guess. :D :thumb:

Cheech, do you have a KF mini? I have a couple of the clones I got from FT last summer. I really struggled with wicking (serious dry hits), and I think I have my kf lite and es3.1 under control, but the minis.... those are another story. I typically use a 3/32" or 1/8" bit with 28g kanthal. I'm anywhere up to about 1.5ohms, and wick with cotton. I've been trying the "bunny ears" method of trimming wick to appropriate length. With the tails coming up the top of the build deck, I trim to about 1/16 showing above the chimney base. Tuck the tails, soak the wick, put the rest of the chimney back together and install. Dry hits are a little less frequently (I was getting after about every 3 hits when I was wrapping around my 1/16" bit and 30g kanthal.) Now, I can probably go about 10 hits before it nails me.

I'm kind of a chain vaper (love that I can get away with that on my PT2s....) Run about 10, maybe 11W on the above build.

Got any tips/tricks to wicking?

DingerCPA, the trouble most people have with their Kayfun Mini 2.1 ES is wicking. I spent a weekend trying to find a build for a friend. My 19mm DT 804 has similar issues. The 1/8" ID coil requires too much cotton/rayon to wick properly without severely thinning the tails. I would use the 3/32 drill bit. The bunny ear style of wicking puts too much cotton over the juice wells and will cause dry hits.

Mount the coil, perpendicular to the posts. Wick the coil. Fan each end of wick horizontally (parallel to the build deck) to the width of the juice well. Trim the ends of the fan by about 15% on each side. Now trim the ends of the wick, so they just brush the juice well when gently pressed down. You want the "shoulders" of the wick full for 2-3mm out each end of the coil. Now, juice up the wick. With a micro screwdriver or toothpick, gently "glue" the ends of the wick to the floor and wall of the juice well, the full width of the well. Install the chimney and finish like you normally would. This should provide good general wicking.

There is another method that is slightly more involved but unnecessary unless this method does not work for you. BTW, do you have the IVOGO or Tobeco version?

Good luck!

ETA: I've never tried the "pancake" method, but it's worth a try...

CravinVapes is my local B&M! Got one really close :) There's one mixer there who's pretty awesome. I was buying so much juice from them last summer, they'd just hand me my own order pad when I walked in

alden, thanks :)

I think I prefer the 3/32 bit for the mini, and even the lite. I just watched the "pancake" wicking video. I think I'll try that the next time I load up. I just wonder if my higher VG (DIY now) juices just can't get through the channels. Having the same problem with my STM deck :( I'm so excited to build, but it sucks when I can't wick right....

Everyone brags about their coil winds. I think the real art in building is the wick. It's also the hardest part...

If you're building contact microcoils, you can also try a spaced coil. I've moved away from micros on all my RTAs.

I have been out of the vape-loop for a while now and just found out there is one less then 5 miles from me! My DIL and I went to check it out and pick up a few new flavors for fun! I can't help but wonder what they are going to do in IN now, wasn't that their original store?

Too true! I don't care how good your coil is, if you can't get the wick to work, you're screwed!
So-so coil with good wicking? A little slice of fried gold!:w00t:

The easy solution for this is to store them up-side-down (drip tip down) when not in use. The excessive heat of summertime causes pressure to build up in the tank and forces the liquid out through the coil. The only place for it to go is out the air flow holes and onto your battery. When the device is upside down, the air can escape without forcing the juice out.

Makes perfect sense to me. Just a glance at the Evod and I went Yep.

Air/fluid/thermal dynamics matter with fountain pens too. Ink expanding from the heat of your hand can be an issue with
pens.
