It's time for science!

Scientists hate it when vapers say "ohms reader". It just kind of grates on them.

They're called "ohmmeters". Most multimeters ("voltage readers") have one built into them. Most aren't very good, but more than good enough for measuring 500K ohm resistors.

Ohms are the unit of measurement for electrical resistance. Think of it as how much of a fight that your coil is going to put up before your battery becomes a thermonuclear device.

An ohm is really a very small amount of resistance. The unit is named after Georg Ohm, who was a real scientist.

Just think--if you're subohming, there is less than one of him between you and certain death.

I prefer to have closer to two of him. Sometimes even four.

That's science!

I barely made the '60's, born in '69.

Those were the days.... Pampers and strained carrots.....

Jay :headbang:

I went to Daytona Beach in the summer of '69, and learned to swim. :) I was 8. That was back when people still drove cars on the beach, and it terrified me! I just wanted to stay in the pool. :D

Well, he seems handsome enough - I think I'll have two.

Good morning. :)

A new pic for you fellow tootle puffers. This is another one of my DIY wood mods. Hubby is playing with laminating wood strips and so the mod itself it is made of swamp wattle (outer side panels) red gum strips plus top and bottom and then stabilised blue olive in the centre panel. We are still practicing with finishes so this is just waxed and buffed.

A complete self indulgence but it keeps us off the streets.

Even 25 watt regulated mods are battery eaters.

It amazes me how far we have both progressed and regressed as vapers in the last 5 years.

For instance: Most vapers are at least mildly conversant with the term ohms.

Ask the same vaper about battery drain rates and charge cycles and youre likely to get a blank stare....maybe even a little drool escaping the corner of their mouths.

Those same vapers also usually dont understand how some of us save money by vaping instead of smoking.

The answer to that is simple, you arent going to save money with a 100 watt box mod running .2 ohm coils that burn through 2 18650s in under 8 hours....not to mention multiple tanks of juice in the same time period.

And thats just the short term cost.

The long term cost for replacement batteries for these guys must be ridiculous as well. But on the upside, the companies selling juice and accessories must love them.

This is so true as I was one of them, marketing have blinded a lot of people and like myself I was taken in by the "Visual side of vaping" that disregard higher ohms, lower wattage as old fashion and dated vaping, like buying into sub ohm tanks I was upgrading, moving on, as one would with technology, myself and many others were/are completely missing the point.

Luckily for me, I met some very educated members on here and I listened and took 50 steps back. The results have made me shake my head, what was I doing, what was I thinking, you can get outstanding flavor, good vaper production, 2 days battery life and save X amount of money.

I have been vaping my Kabuki today and I am in a state of shock, you can probably expect a gush fest from me at some point so I apologies now but when your getting more flavor from vaping at 1.6 ohms at 12w than I was getting vaping a quad coil at 90w, then that in itself sums it up, not to mention it's a lot more satisfying style of vape, cool vaper being the main one. I had just forgotten my roots so to speak.

Thank you to all that have helped and guided me, I am so very grateful to you all. ;)

Well said!

I will always be a tootle puffer for the reason bolded above. I have an aversion to hot liquids of any kind. That includes coffee, hot tea, soup and even hot chocolate. If I drink or eat them at all they have to be lukewarm. Maybe I burned myself as a child or maybe its just my preference but Id much rather have an ice cold glass of anything in the morning instead of a something hot.

No reason why my vaping shouldnt follow suit.

I do the design and collect all the bits and hubby makes them. A partnership. We have another one that's waiting for the Danish oil to cure (about a week). It's this one but the wood will darken. Centre panels are willow. All the wood comes from our place and generally is limb fall. These are still prototypes to get the right shape and size before we cut up some expensive stabilised burl.

Well they sure don't look like DIY, these look like they are bought !
It's nice to hear that you and your hubby share an interest like that, it must be nice.
You should both be pretty proud of them anyway, they look amazing.

I think the shape is just about right. Looks to me very similar to the iStick 50watts - perhaps a little taller? Is there any possibility of having the fire button on the side? That would make the mod fit better in the hand I think. What's the diameter of the 510 connection?

I struggle with thumb firing so throughout this process we discovered that I balance the mod button on my thumb and close my hand to fire. When the button is on the side my wrist cramps at the base of my thumb. Whimpy fingers and hands. Like I said quite self indulgent. :p

The 510 connector is 16mm and for my cartos I still need airflow under the tank so this is better for me than the larger ones.

Thank you I am absolutely thrilled. He makes boxes and doing these has been like vaping meets his box making. :p

I only asked about the width of the 510 to get a better idea of the size of the mod. Of course if you are making these for yourself, naturally you should cater for your own specific needs. I was only suggesting other possibilities in case you ever think of selling these. I'm sure they would sell like hot cakes.
