OK, I found the thread titled "A beginner's guide to your first mechanical mod." Seems that a 510 center pin is a good safety feature. Didn't know about the extended vs. non extended pins on the atomizer. Looks like some more research is needed before just buying something. The gory pictures worked! Thanks for the replies.
Definitely a 510 pin is good to start off. The ones where it's direct contact to the battery positive are quasi-hybrid.

For a stepping stone, I've really been enjoying the Ehpro Armor Prime. It's a pass through (unregulated) tube mod with a bit of protections (reverse polarity, short circuit,...). Good manufacturing quality, solid. A really nice (to me) side fire button. Two tiny LEDs bracket the button, indicate any problems and change color based on battery voltage. When they change from green to yellow that's 3.6V, a decent spot to swap batteries. fasttech has the newer version, that also fits a 21700 battery.

There's a classic true mech on sale now, too. It uses an 18650, does have a 510 pin (not a hybrid). asMODus Rose Finch Mechanical Mod single 18650

I don't have a Topside,so i am not positive,but i believe i remember people saying they are proprietary bottles.There may be a workaround though,never know.
For that price i may have to grab one too.
That’s right, the proprietary bottles are what make it a “Top(fill)Side”:facepalm:

Glad to see you learning before buying.

I've been using mechanicals for a long time now, and have never had any sort of a problem.

BUT, just remember that YOU are the ONLY safety feature when using one.
    It only takes one mistake!

I was going to say Rose Finch. I have 4 of them. Very nice, especially for the money.

(I was never good at physics, so I have no idea why it does that).

I believe it is because of the "Residual" effects of the microwave which "superheats" the water . . . Matter of fact, same thing usually happens if you put a spoon (and/or anything metal) in the water too -- let's say to stir a freshly brewed cup of "Tea" or a reheated cup of Coffee . . . BEEN THERE - DONE THAT . . . Learned "My" Lesson for that day . . .

    Not NICE ! ! ! Just Sayin' . . .

Vaporider has a large selection and good prices. Is this site OK?

My very first order placed with them just in the past couple of weeks went off without a hitch.

Has anyone ever bought any clone Kanger SSOCC coils that were actually worth using?

After some thought, I think it may be a good idea for me to stock up on more of these.

    PM me if needed.

Do you DL? I can't remember. But I LOVE their original square OCC 0.5 ohm coils, that's what I have 80 boxes of. Been using them for probably four years, great taste, no leaking, no issues. A coil lasts me about a month vaping a golden colored juice.

    Kanger OCC V2 Replacement Coil - 5PK

Kangerwholesale is the best price around I believe at $7.46 a box. There's 364 boxes so no rush, or reason to PM.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    @Haktuspit

I have seen the price on that site. Very good. But just wondering if there are any clone SSOCC out there worth buying/using as they can be much cheaper. (I know it;'s a long-shot, but I figured I'd ask anyhow lol)

I do DL when using Subtanks, but I use 1.2 ohm - will settle for 1.5 ohm. I'm a restricted DL vaper, hate huge airflow when DLing.

Half my subtank coil stash is OCC (vertical or horizontal) in stash, but not looking to increase OCC stash. SSOCC has much better flavor for me.

Also, another major reason I prefer the SSOCC is because the body is steel. OCC is chromed brass body. A chromed brass coil body could prove not-so-vapocalypse-friendly in long run in terms of durability when rebuilding.

I do have many RBAs for my subtank minis, but would be nice to have drop-ins when needed. I'm thinking for the future. My eyes are failing and may not be able to build forever.

This is not about a sale/discount for Vaping "Stuff" . . . However, if anyone is purchasing something from Walmart online, there is a 10% discount code to get up to $20.00 off a single order that is valid until January 15, 2020: HBP96UWAHP

If Ya' already did order online, call online customer service and they might just credit the 10% back to Ya' . . . Well at least they did for "Me" . . . Just Sayin' . . .

I bought one of those in Brass finish for the Apocalypse box. It's a well made mod that looks like it was made by an accomplished craftsman with a leaning toward fine jewelry. It's the ultimate in shinyitis. I haven't even used it yet. I'm a regulated mod person, but it was a great deal for a giveaway price. I might fire it up after the Christmas rush and try it out.

Locking vape cabinet ordered finally. Should be delivered the 30th. I have hit desperate to get all this organized stage. LOL
Ya know, I’ve been feeling pretty good about my plastic tubs, except now they are too heavy to lift to move when I want to add or inspect. Right now they’re in a corner. I should look into one of these cabinets.

Putting a cart together at Heartland Vapes. I should have enough nic to last until my death already but at this price why not pick some up for some poor unstocked vaper I run into in the future.

Question: Do any of you know anything about nic salts? Like I'd want to mix 50 mg/ml juice so would I just use half of that, 5% flavor, and fill the rest up with VG and call it a day? Does VG work well in pod mods?

IDK maybe this isn't the best idea. I could always buy pod juice until the hammer drops and then give it up.
More than 50% VG and wicking is an issue in pod systems. Either you max out at 50% or use AG (VG 90%: distilled water 10%)
Usually salt nic liquid demands a higher percentage of flavorings compared to same liquid/recipe in free base. Maybe the acid and/or high nic mute flavors. So take that into account.

Good morning to you, too. Seems to me that you've been missing lately on here. Are you OK? Just busy?
Yes, busy and nothing much to contribute. I am basically done with vape shopping, I think.

I also am tempted to get a food sealer for some of the regulated mods. Are people doing that? Or is it overkill?

Maybe 20 years from now I'll regret it, but mine just sit in their boxes in plastic tubs.
