Mastering Food Preservation: Ball’s BPA-Free Canning Lidsfyi.. the whole reason for me using the BPA free lids was to avoid that rubber/glue stuff on the metal rings from 'aging right into my nic'......another board/somewhere had a poster who was very firm about warning others to NOT use the normal canning lids.
this was a bit of a 'drift' for me,, since i grew up on a farm,, and we canned a lot of food with those rings....but since the poster described some sort of 'gooeyness' aspect of the metal rings.. its was easier for me to 'drift' closer to the bpaFree (or not free) lids......i simply didn't want aging rubber and glue dancing with my nic.
This page is much better for determining if any Ball Jar lids we have are BPA-free. It has good illustrations, and I was able to determine easily that my lids are BPA-free. At the bottom, the author notes that Jarden Home Brands reported that “The coating does not contain BPS and is not enamel based.” That still doesn't answer what it does contain. I'm still researching the Quattros. Looks like their jars are very reasonably priced, too.
