Bars have been here since Friday. I don’t think anyone ever pictured a “dry” New Orleans!!! They agreed today to let restaurants sell beer and wine with delivery orders. Groceries carry beer/wine/liquor, but they’re pretty cleaned out. Went as quick as toilet paper

Definitely done vape hoarding at this point. Went to a few stores today, not liking what I see with food supplies comparing to last week.

Stocking up food now, not vape. Plan on going out tomorrow again and filling another cart full of non-condensed soup if I can find it. Almost 100% no soup today everywhere. That and water and many other food categories.

Gave up on TP and such for now. Focus is on food. That's the next shortage.

TP and such will be back with buying limits. I'm confident I'll get some as others are busy hoarding food. Most people only have so much space for bulky items like TP. One big block of TP takes up the same space as probably 40-50 cans of food.

My knees hurt like hell. I may not be able to get out tomorrow. We'll see.

Milk was out at all 5 stores.

I'm only buying shelf-stable food that doesn't need water and can be eaten right out of the package (if needed). That's why I'm preferring non-condensed soup right now and canned veggies. Just heat and eat or, if no fire/heat, just open and eat.

May buy a couple shelf-stable milk if I can find it (forgot to even look today). It tastes like crap, but it's milk. I also forget to check for non-dairy creamer. But I can learn to like black coffee if needed. But without water, no coffee. Potable water is hard to store properly. I have very little, that will be for non-cooking.

Yes, I am attacking this like it's SHTF because it looks like it, smells like it, walks like it, etc.

The powers are talking a lot, but tell nothing. That means they know nothing or is hiding something, I believe.

Telling us not to panic (good) and only store 1 week worth of food (foolish). Yet harvests were dismal last year and probably won't be any better this year. 1 week? My :censored:

I hope I'm wrong. that would be nice.

I started shopping on the 6th and I went shopping almost every day for 10 days. I was shopping for two families. It continually got worse and worse. The amount of people, the empty shelves. Every day got worse. What I don’t understand is they say just get enough food for a little while but in the same breath they say to isolate yourself. You can’t do both. I mean eventually you have to come out of isolation to shop. This is unreal...people are scared...and people are dying.

Yup. That's what I mean. They just talk but either say nothing or contradict themselves. Common sense trumps govt/media information every.single.time.

I found small bottles at my shell station and gave them to my parents. A couple of days ago our warehouse manager where I work started handing them out to everybody. So very thankful.

Watch your local distillery,,, our have converted over to making hand sanitizer by the gal for first responders & our community. They made a clear request for chemical companies to keep raw materials here in Texas.

Every state has at least a small industrial community that can help their communities

    storing water is easy.
food grade 55 gallon drums are available online.

how do you personally keep it safe to eat/drink? Too much conflicing info out there. Some say you can just store city water since it has chlorine in it, others say it still needs treated. And the amount of bleach to use is unclear.

Well I had the satisfaction today of one of my Brother in laws apologizing today for all the crap he has given me over the last few years about my pantry. I admit it ... that felt good.

Seriously if any of you have pressure canners or can get one. I can point you in the direction of how to use it properly and even recipes for your own soups and stews to set yourself up with home made from fresh shelf stable food. At least around here fresh food is not disappearing off shelves. The next week I am going to be doing a bunch more soups and stews for the pantry. Canning is not hard. Nor are cold pack soups and stews. PM me if you want info.

SO far cerebus with the Baby beast coil not leaking at all thank GOD. I could not do 2 days in a row like the last one.

We have a water cooler (well it does hot or cold water) and rather than buy huge bottles for it which I couldn't lift we got a zero water filter setup that fits on top of it. If we reach a boil order for water I will boil it then run it through the filter. Even with hurricanes the worst we have hit here is a boil order. Before a storm we filter a bunch and put it in gallon jugs. It will be just fine for a couple weeks if necessary. The longest we have had to go with boil orders is about a month (hurricane Rita).Btw if loosing the contents of a freezer is a worry. freeze those bottles of water and leave them in the freezer. The more frozen stuff in it the longer it takes to thaw out.

I actually have pressure canned water to make sterilized water should we need to clean a wound etc. Besides you never want to run a canner with less than 4 jars in it. So if I need to fill out a canner load of food I just put in a few jars of water.

We also picked up one of those single gas burner portable stoves that run on propane so we will have a way to cook/boil. This is an all electric apt.

Just a few things we have learned throughout the years.
