how do you personally keep it safe to eat/drink? Too much conflicing info out there. Some say you can just store city water since it has chlorine in it, others say it still needs treated. And the amount of bleach to use is unclear.
I have always stored water in 5 gal Home Depot buckets for the hurricane warnings.
I simply fill them with well water and add 3/4 teaspoon/3.7ml of 5-6% household bleach and snap on the black plastic lid they also sell. I did an experiment last summer and kept 1 bucket full for 3 months with no algae and I could still smell the chlorine in the water. It tasted exactly like freshly treated well water.

Don't remember if i wrote about this before. I eat low carb whole food. I'm planning for out of stock situations but not long term shortage. I keep a 30 day supply of meat, fish, coffee, heavy cream and olive oil, 20 days of eggs, 10 days of fresh vegetables (and 6 lbs of peanut butter for wiggle room). Every 10 days i'll try to top off supplies.

P.S. Seems predictable that people will buy more food for home if they aren't going out or to work. I'm stocking twice normal, 30 days instead of 15.

I really hope nothing happens to our city water supply and I don't think it will but these are weird times. I use a brita water filter system and fill up four gallons of filtered water every few days and keep it in the fridge. I drink a gallon of water a day so there is no way I could buy enough to store for long term. I am constantly filling up jugs. Been doing it for years. I bought the brita pitchers from the thrift store...they always have tons of them. I bought 6 extra filters to go with my two unused filters just in case. Although our city water is perfectly fine, I can still taste chemicals in it if I drink from the tap. But it's clear and just fine. I also bought three large cases of bottled water if we need them, although buying all that plastic really went against my ideals.

Personally, I wouldn't do the water without testing. Get a pool test kit, and keep the chlorine below 3ppm. You can store it at higher levels, then open to air to reduce the chlorine level. Chlorine in its natural state is a gas, and will convert to gas and leave the water. This is why swimming pools have chlorinators to constantly add to the pool.

If I drink tap water, I can smell the chlorine at first. I use a store bought water bottle, like Deer Park. Then, I refill it over and over for a few days. Put in tap water, shake, then open, and the chlorine with its smell disappears.

stuck in a squishy pod called my brain
fwiw,,
one of my highly educated and employed friends posted today, she was standing in line at Krogers at 6am the store opens at 7 every day,, its small. (she is not the kind of person to stand in line ever,, kind of surprised she wasnt using a delivery service--im not going to ask)

my instincts tell me to stay home ,, and indoors this weekend.

i can see Apple stores also getting hit,, drug stores,,jewelry, people dont like to wait in line,, criminals like closed stores or stores with items of 'value'

A locally-owned grocery store that has a few locations started new policy that only older folks 65+ are welcome during their first hour of business every day.

They aren't carding people at the door but if you don't obviously look 65+, employees have been given the OK to ask any younger customers they see in the store during that hour to leave until the hour is up.

They're also closing one hour earlier every night so they can stock-up and clean the stores better.

Ours did the same, 8-9, but they are carding. I don’t think anything is open past 8 pm, except the drive throughs at the pharmacies. They’re allowed to be 24 hour.

Sourcemore has the Pico 21700 (mod only) for $26.79. This price is available to any account level, bronze or general. Very few in stock.

Description says it comes with with one Avatar AVB 21700 battery (30A 4000mah rating), but also takes 18650 with supplied adapter.

Mooch says that battery is overrated by 10 amps and 100mah.

I like the Pico 21700 a lot. Bigger than the Pico 75W or Pico 25, but has a nice beefy feel in the hand. I would say my hands are about medium size. I've not used the batteries yet as I don't have a charger that takes 21700 batts.

Good luck finding silicone sleeves for it though. If that's important to you, this may not be a good mod for you. I don't shop on Aliexpress, but maybe you can find a sleeve there? Checked Amazon, none there either. The Pico 25 sleeve doesn't fit it in case you're wondering lol.

I'm done, got my last 2 orders coming in...one device, some more nic, and that's it. When the virus hit my radar I had a feeling we'd be in trouble....Mardi Gras. I live in BTR. I hit the stores over 2 weeks ago for myself and my dad. If I remember correctly 5 days ago or so we were at 77 cases and today 347.

I went to Costco today at about opening time. There was a line wrapped around the building, fairly well spaced too. I hung in the line as my wife loves their berries and I wanted a big bag of flatbread. They let small groups in as groups left and it was well organized. I walked in to meet one pallet of Lysol sanitizing wipe five packs, limit one. By the time I checked out with a few things they were gone. It felt like I won the lottery!

If you find you can tolerate the almond milk. There is shelf stable almond milk wherever your store puts the condensed milk. Here it is in the bakery aisle. Might be worth picking up a carton or 2.
Powdered milk works too

Groceries carry beer/wine/liquor, but they’re pretty cleaned out. Went as quick as toilet paper
Here in FL, grocery stores carry beer and wine, but you need to go to a specialty store to get liquor. My wife has lately taken to drinking lemonade spiked with gin (along with some passionfruit syrup and some kind of bitters). So she wanted to stock up on gin.

The ABC store was a madhouse...

But: Happy wife, happy life!

I've received 5 of my FT orders in the first three days of this week, with another one due to come in today. The last few appear to be coming in at the beginning of next week, and the Vapocalypse stash will be complete!

Until y'all point me to some other sale on an item that I just can't live without, anyway...

We have a water cooler (well it does hot or cold water) and rather than buy huge bottles for it which I couldn't lift we got a zero water filter setup that fits on top of it. If we reach a boil order for water I will boil it then run it through the filter. Even with hurricanes the worst we have hit here is a boil order. Before a storm we filter a bunch and put it in gallon jugs. It will be just fine for a couple weeks if necessary. The longest we have had to go with boil orders is about a month (hurricane Rita).Btw if loosing the contents of a freezer is a worry. freeze those bottles of water and leave them in the freezer. The more frozen stuff in it the longer it takes to thaw out.

I actually have pressure canned water to make sterilized water should we need to clean a wound etc. Besides you never want to run a canner with less than 4 jars in it. So if I need to fill out a canner load of food I just put in a few jars of water.

We also picked up one of those single gas burner portable stoves that run on propane so we will have a way to cook/boil. This is an all electric apt.

Just a few things we have learned throughout the years.
We have horrible water, we have to buy bottled. Well after this run on everything I decided to buy a water purifier that backpackers use for worst case scenerio. You just never know in this day & age.

My daydream is people will drink less during this time. May be I wrote this before, I've lived next to a small commercial strip for decades. In that time it has transitioned from small traditional retail shops to bar/restaurants. That means booze, crappy food and the people those attract. Now they are all closed and it's wonderful.

My oldest is in WBR. She felt relatively safe until the first cases started popping up in BR. Mardi Gras was definitely ground zero here. People from all over the globe crammed together. There are several hundred more hospitalized and getting tested.

Heartland vapes sent a COVID-19 email.
Not planning to close down at this time.

But apparently even the image files in the emails they send out contain nicotine

:offtopic: FYI: For those who might be interested, especially given the conversation now . . .

Inexpensive DIY Water Filter:

First - Disclaimer I am not, nor ever intend to be a plumber, however I have set this up twice before and am now using the same set-up in "My" Current apartment as a water filter and it works for "Me" - YMMV though . . . Total cost for supplies cost approximately $70.00 , but you may find some of the items cheaper if Ya' shop around (I actually got almost everything at a lower price from a Plumbing supply store - that usually just sells to plumbers) . . . BTW: "You" will need to have an opening available in the Sink next to the main Faucet (like a separate hand sprayer) or have someone drill a hole for the In-Sink Water faucet . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

Items NEEED (most can be gotten at any hardware/plumbing Supply stores):

4) Refrigerator Ice Maker Water Filter:

5) Basic Strapping to attach lines/filter to back wall of cabinet under the sink:

Instillation Instructions:

First an foremost - as logic would dictate - Shut OFF Water to Sink ! ! !

Then disconnect cold water hose that goes to faucet . . . Attach Split Water shut off valve to cold water inlet pipe . . . Reattach main hose back to main faucet and new Supply line for Water filter to valve . . . Attach Supply line to Water Filter . . . Attach other end of Water Filter to second Supply line and then to the already installed In-Sink Water Filter . . . Use Strapping to attach Lines an Water Filter to back wall of cabinet under Sink . . . Then - Turn cold water supply back ON . . . AND - Just hope that Ya' did everything correctly and there are NO Leaks/Flooding . . . If there is any leaks or flooding try again and make sure connections are correct - it works ! ! ! OH and Remember - depending on how often and how much Filtered Water Ya' use - will depend on how often you will NEED to change Water Filter . . .

Personally I use mine everyday for coffee , cooking, refilling water bottles for drinking, making ice when needed, etc. - so I change mine approximately every 2 - 3 years. No longer, need or use Brita unless a Hurricane is coming here . . .

Anyway - Really hope that this information is helpful . . . Just Sayin' . . .
