Yeah, when I first began
vaping 8 years ago I was using a mech whose battery exploded. It didn't have a locking fire button, and the fire button was rather prominent. Put the
mod in my pocket and the fire button got compressed continuously and the battery went into thermal runaway. I had little knowledge about
batteries at the time and wasn't aware they could explode.
I don't use mechs any longer. Not really biased about mechs, just not for me. My regulated mods are arguably safer with the time out safety fire feature, and I think they give me a better vape because I can control the power output to suit my taste on the fly.
