Unless the mod has a "non-removable" battery - I wont charge them inside the device. I have before in the past. Basically while I was on the road. Do I recommend it? No - BUT - if that's all you can do...

As for the types of devices I charged on the road - NEVER my RX-200's. Why? Because the batteries DO NOT 'USUALLY' CHARGE EVENLY! Granted, you can tighten down a screw that will allow them to get within 1 / 100th (.01V - .02V) of a volt of each other BUT it is still NOT perfectly balanced. IF I go anywhere - I'd trust my Reuleaux DNA-200 a bit more to charge and go. Which is why I take my DNA-200 everywhere. It does a BIT better with charging things evenly. The onboard charging capabilities with the DNA-200 are pretty good. The mod DOES still get a bit warm - but nothing to bet overly concerned about.

The thing with charging via USB vs External Chargers is this: batteries can and WILL fail if the conditions are right. If you ABUSE them (OVER Discharge / CHARGE), if they're DEFECTIVE (Broken SLEEVES / Insulators), or you're negligent with them (tossing them around next to coins, keys, etc.)

I have YET to have a battery fail on me. My 26650's have been overdischarged before - I tossed them and bought new ones. So... what method of charging my batteries do I PERSONALLY use? Well that depends. If I'm in one place - I pull the batteries out of the mod and use and external charger. Once they're done, I pull them off the charger and put them away to relax for a bit. Taking batteries off a charger and dropping them into a device is another big no-no. The batteries may be warm to the touch which means they may be 'stressed' from charging, they may be getting ready to fail, or they may just have come into contact with the sunlight or something else that made them warm.

After a few months and a few cycles of charge / discharge - I hook my fluke up to them, test the final voltage in / out. If the battery sag is too high (3.7 dropping to 3.0V or more on fire) I usually toss them and replace them. I do have an in-line meter as well, but I don't usually use that too often. If a battery explodes in my charger - I might be a bit ...... off - but it's better to have it explode in my charger than in my mods.

As far as the Charger(s) I use: Nitecore D2's and D4's. Why? I don't need the bluetooth capabilities on a charger to check them. If I put the battery in and get an ERR code (granted the battery is installed properly in the charger) - that's an indicator that the battery is DEAD and it's time to be replaced ASAP! I witnessed someone trying to charge a battery that gave an ERR code and shortly after they dropped it into their charger - it ruptured.
I'm the same way. If they are external batteries i use an seperate charger.

@bnrkwest - I got to say I love the signature. "First 3-4 seconds away from your face..." So that's why my eyes burn so much when I push the fire button! I always wondered where that burning sensation was coming from! LOL! I have to joke about that, I almost lit my lips on fire a week or so ago, took the cap off my RDTA to fill it, forgot to put it back on, went to bite down on the drip tip and tapped the fire button. Was like "WTF!", looked down, no cap, felt like a jackass, and placed the cap back on...

Ouch!!!! I bet that hurt! Funny about the fire away from your face, I got a bad coil and it was spitting hot juice like a volcano! That time I forgot my own rule and burned my tongue! So now any new coil gets that first test away from face and mouth :)

I was about to reply with a story from my youth but fortunately decided to google it first. Back in the 60's when Japan was starting to export manufactured goods I heard that a town in Japan had been renamed Sheffield so they could sell counterfeit cutlery, turns out it was a myth. I've believed that story for 50 years. They did sell Made in Sheffield cutlery but it was just fake, they didn't bother renaming a town. Back then Made in Japan meant shoddy cheap imitations, now it means quality.

On the vaping front, I got a marketing email from Amazon today. There was a bunch of items on the list. One looked like a vape pen, but from the comments it is clearly designed for something else. The photo of the packaging showed Vape as part of the name of the thing. To confuse it even more the listing stated that it was to be used for aromatherapy. There were some other items designed for the same purpose.

Also on the list were actual vaping items, like LV kanthal and glass tank parts for well known vaping tanks. Mixed in with items that appeared to be genuine aromatherapy stuff.

Seems like Amazon is happy to go along with confusing these three product lines, or maybe their software just can't tell the difference. And the Other folks are using the word Vape as well as Aromatherapy to hide behind. Could be good for us in the long term since our stuff could hide behind the other two.

The only vaping related stuff I've got from Amazon was VG. Ever since I've been targeted with vaping related ads. Must tick the lotion making folks off.

Great I had to open my mouth about charging safety. Now I need a pyrex baking dish and feel terrible about leaving my charger on the carpet.

It's always good to get ideas. One thing everyone should remember is that batteries - doesn't matter what type, size, or what they're used for - are just as dangerous as anything else in life if the circumstances are right. Look around you every once in awhile, you'll see what I mean.

As far as where my charger is, it hides itself well among the rest of my equipment. I keep my charger away from moisture, sunlight, or anything else that can cause it to malfunction.

Several people have had issues wbere charging batteries started a fire on sofa, carpet, Kitchen table, etc.

Mine charges in a ceramic coffee mug.

Clones vs authentics. You need to visit the Made in Sheffield store for authentics.

AS for charging. I never charge unattended. I rotate my 18650's so I have a pair charged, a pair in use and the rest in boxes on the shelf. I am mostly using internal at the moment which will all die soon into the future.

I guess you were not done stocking up yet. o_O

I use a battery charging bag on the stove top for the easy to remove batteries. I have enough extra batteries to use/charge/store so that everyone gets rotated through and I don't have to worry about needing a battery fresh off the charger. The Radii do get charged via USB, but they go to a metal surface and charge on an external USB charger and not the PC. Amazon had some nice multi-USB charging blocks that plug into a wall outlet, so I can charge mods and all of the other tablet things in their own special area on the toolbox.

Sorry but I will never charge batts on a stovetop. I have had too many instances of people turning on the stove accidentally or by just pushing things to one side and turning it on. Also, my stove cost a lot of money and I don't want any exploding batts on there either. I like the idea of a pyrex dish though so will put my charger in one of those.

I don't either but the Radius was designed to allow for USB charging. Only mod I trust charging with a removeable battery installed.

I guess the reason for not using the USB charge port on mods is that it's a small add-on part of the electronics on a mod and may be a cheap unit. On an actual battery charger it's more likely to be reliable since it's the main purpose of the thing. But the charging circuit in a Radius is probably high quality since that's what Provape do.

Just an open dish for mine.

I use a metal bread pan. That should protect from the heat setting fire to what's underneath it. Another problem might be the noxious gasses that apparently can get released when a battery goes off. Maybe a lid or a charging bag would help with that but I can't be bothered. When mods explode you can get flames shooting out or mods flying around the room. But I figure that's caused by the confinement of the battery so it shouldn't happen with an exposed battery. Could be wrong though.

Edited because I can't find the YouTube Video.

I went with glass because that's what I had, I honestly don't know if there would be a downside to a metal pan or not. Both would heat up. Glass or metal.
When I charge, I just pull out my oven mitts and leave them out. We have a kitchen fire extinguisher just a few steps from where I charge mine too.

Charging bags really are the way to go. I can't say I'm recommending less, or saying someone should do it like I do, I'm just listing what I do. :)

When you say Pyrex dish - Are you saying an open dish or with a list? o_O
Mine is an open rectangle baking dish. It has a small crack so I wouldn't trust it for baking in it so I re-purposed it. Mine sits on my kitchen counter in plain view so is easy to keep a close eye on it while the batteries are charging. I never charge over night or when I am going to be away from home or even outside. So far, knock on wood, I've not had any kind of incident and I want to keep it that way.
