Closely imitating tobacco is very difficult. i wanted tobacco flavor in the beginning and got over that as most vapers seem too do. If you are mixing try him on a very very mild flavoring, just enough to cover the other ingredients or even try him on unflavored. he doesn't want dessert, that's reasonable. I care about texture and throat hit. Flavor is a distant third place. So start hiim with menthol, just a hint. you can always add more if necessary.

Okay cool.. thank you very much!

See and I'm considering buying him a coffee flavor without him tasting it first.. I am figuring it can easily be recreated with diy too..
I started with Caramel Macchiato. But, after about 8 months, it started tasting too sweet. The next flavor I found that did the trick was Tiramisu (a less sweet coffee flavor).

Now, I just buy TFA Tiramisu flavoring and put 10% in with my nic, PG, and VG. Pretty simple!

My problem is nothing I vape is nothing he would/will vape.. he hates anything sweet or dessert.. whereas that's always been from day one like a reward for not lighting up..

When he learned there was menthol e liquid, and tried out my P3, that is the day he said he wanted to vape..

He wants either a menthol or a nice tobacco flavor, he occasionally smokes a pipe, and likes his pipe tobacco as well.. so if we can find a nice tobacco he would vape.. or a light menthol..

I know I can buy the stuff for the menthol but I have no earthly idea how to make a pipe tobacco flavor!
There are plenty of pipe tobacco flavors. Check the DIY section for the tobacco thread. They can give advice on who has what and what they have tried and liked.

Mother nature put a lot of effort into the sense of taste to protect us from stuff we shouldn't eat. It's conservative. I will react negatively to a new taste just for safety's sake. So keep the flavoring minimal so there's not so much to react to. I believe flavoring is over rated in vaping. I think
Okay cool!
For a year my brother was diluting an online pre mix 25/75 with unflavored diy I made for him. When the pre mix ran out I put him on my mix which is 1% cuppucino from capella. I have to maill him stuff so the new flavor was a suprise. For the first few days he hated it. He was sure we'd made a terrible mistake. Then he got used to it and likes it just fine and doesn't want me to change a thing. Part of this vaping thing is you need to give the sense of taste a little time to adjust, which it will do if the flavoring is not overpowering.

I don't disagree with anything you have said. However, most people coming off of cigarettes have no complete sense of taste until their bodies can heal. Why do you think that most juice vendors use so much flavoring and sweetners? Their target base is getting more new vapers thru the door.
Lower flavoring may or may not be for everyone. Getting used to something does take time and some may not want to take the time to do so. I am glad vaping is so versatile as it can suit the majority of people that can change it to their liking.

There's one more issue related to long term storage I'm thinking about. In a year I'll open a 1 liter long term storage bottle. I want to be certain it's well mixed before dividing in to smaller bottles. A few shakes might not be enough but how to tell? Chemistry labs have devices called bottle rollers for mixing but the one's marketed to them cost 100's of dollars. There must be a low cost way to cobble one of these together. I think a bottle roller might also be the best way to mix DIY if you feel the need for extra mixing (which I don't).

Since it's filled up all the way to the top there's no obvious way to stir it. You could pour it into a large kitchen measuring jug and stir it I guess. Or into a larger bottle and shake it. But that lets it absorb oxygen and water

When I first started using nic I saw a suggestion here which is how I still do it. After it thaws out put it in a UC with warm water. The water and the vibration only hit the bottom few inches but convection makes the warmed juice rise so it all gets mixed up and vibrated after a while. I guess that would work somewhat with just standing it in a dish with warm water in the bottom.

heating nic is not wise, I would def not use heat or a UC on 100mg nic

Bottle rollers are a proven way to mix liquids. I would roll a stored bottle at room temperature for 24 hous. Rolling is slow mixing but complete. A nice advangate over stiring or shaking is you're not creating air bubbles in the mix.

Juice vendors use a lot of flavoring because they are used to that and so are their customers. Plenty of new vapers will adapt faster to subtle flavoring. We don't know much about those people because they only way too get that is DIY. I rarely go too restaurants because the food is to rich. That's because the cooks spend too much time in the kitchen and can't smell or taste their own food so well. That's why home cooking can be better, the cook at home didn't spend so much time around overpowering food aromas.

Lol. You have apparently never seen my spice cabinet at home! I don't have a spice rack.. I have a two door three shelf cabinet dedicated to spices and herbs.

I don't eat out, because there is nothing a restaurant has that I cannot cook at home 100x better..

The reason a home cook uses slightly less spices and herbs than a restaurant, (in amount per recipe) is because the home cook takes the time/has the time for the flavors to marry, and a restaurant doesn't have that level of time, so they use a little more to make up for that.

When I smoked, I smoked Virginia Slims menthol, and could not stand any other brands of menthol. When I started vaping, I liked Blu Cherry more than their menthol which was also too strong for my taste. My first bottle juice was called American Tobacco and was a slightly sweet, nutty flavor. After I got used to vaping, I quickly changed to fruits with an occasional tank of wintergreen flavor. If your DH is just starting to test the waters, have him try a wintergreen if he doesn't like the menthols in the shop, and maybe a few of their tobacco flavors. After he gets his taste buds back, he may want to try something else, but I've never been able to tolerate the really sweet or dessert flavors.

Great advice thank you.. I'll definitely try some of that with him!

Opinionated,

Congratulations on your husband wanting to give vaping a shot!

I smoked a pack to a pack and a half of Marlboro Lights a day. I started vaping with 12 mg. nic, and it wasn't enough, so went up to 16 mg. It was much better, but not quite enough to keep me from chain vaping and wanting an analog. 18 mg was perfect for me. I was able to put the analogs down, and had no need to chain vape. I would definitely start him at 18, and then either go up or down on nic as needed.

The Plume Room's Burley & Candy is a very satisfying tobacco juice. It's sweet enough to be pleasant tasting, but I don't consider it a sweet juice. GLV's Deadly Sin is another great tobacco juice, and many people swear by their El Camino, which is a pipe tobacco blend.

Thanks... I just built my hubbies kayfun, and put some dragon's fire in it by heather's heavenly vape.. I bought the dragons fire for my son because he likes tobacco and some people had recommended it as a tobacco flavor.. I thought to try it myself and let my husband try it this morning, as i haven't given it to my son yet because I have been letting it breathe..

It's a 24 mg. 80vg/20pg mix..

First, it was too harsh on his throat, so I guess we have to go with a lower nicotine and a max vg at least until he is used to vaping.. but second to that it was way too sweet for him..

I think these sweeter tobacco flavors that seem to be popular, just aren't to his liking.. he really and truly doesn't like anything that is mildly or pleasantly sweet..

That will definitely make it more difficult. I know there are a few vendors who offer a 555 blend, which I think is supposed to be like Marlboro Reds. I think I've also seen a menthol version of this as well.

I copied a great post I found on non sweet tobacco juices. Maybe you should look into this vendor?

I can think of many true tobacco vapes that aren't sweet, other than the natural sweetness from the VG/PG.
Have you tried NET's at all?
If you're looking for a tobacco vape that seriously tastes like tobacco, then NET's are probably what you're looking for.
The only other question would be, are you looking for a Cigarette style... Cigarette-style e-Liquids
Cigar... Cigar e-Liquids
Pipe... Pipe Tobacco e-Liquids
Hybrid/Flavored Tobacco... Flavored N-E-T/"Hybrids" (most of these will be on the sweeter side, but not cotton-candy sweet)
Single leaf tobacco... Single Varietal and "Special" Tobacco Types

I apologize that all the links are from one vendor, but they just happen to be my favorite tobacco extractor/vendor.

Have you posted this query in the Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux thread? That's where you'll find the "Experts" in tobacco juices.

Oh, and they do ship internationally, with free samples thrown in!
