Don't know when they were sent, but I know UPS is ready to start sending shipments through the FDA on August 8th.

Not sure what happened to the post, or if I'm just blind, but did I understand that ordering from another country makes us importers and we'd need a special license? This I did not know. I had one more order I was going to place thru Fasttech and thought I might be safe as long as I placed the order before 8/8. I assume now that it won't be safe.
I think that will all depend now on where the package is on 8/8 whether is was ordered before the date or not may not make a difference with the FDA. Wish we all could know for sure.
No significant loss if it is a small order for last-minute stuff. Especially if a non-vape item is included.
The wife said she wanted a couple more TopBox Minis to put away, so had to get those ordered today. I figure I'll be ordering a couple more next month. Not the way I wanted her to go, but that's what she likes, sooo...

How can the FDA screen shipments, and how does UPS even know what a shipment contains? Has the FDA set up a warehouse somewhere and empowered inspectors to open packages?

If it's an international shipment, the contents of the package are going to be on the customs slip. Anything e-cig related is slated for inspection starting next month.
On an international shipment of course customs has the right to inspect. I may have misunderstood your post referring to UPS, as my experience with UPS is domestic, and think of USPS or DHL for international. I cannot imagine the FDA inspecting domestic shipping.
We all may be misguided into thinking that the FDA will be slow in making sure regs. are followed when it now appears they are getting poised to be very aggressive.
I had that happen once too. I think it was just over the $100 mark....maybe $101 or $102. AT that time I think they wanted ensured I didn't owe an import tax.

Going on the generality of what's being said here.
I think most people in the vaping community (vendors AND customers) have not taken into account that there is a whole lot the deeming order didn't have to spell out specifically about our vaping toys because once deemed a tobacco product other laws already on the books would kick into effect. Import laws being a very important example of what I'm talking about.
