Are you done stocking up?

I am going to freeze some built-in battery mods... I had mentioned this when I joined the forum back in September and was encouraged not to. It may sound crazy, but let me explain.

I have 19 built-in battery mods, which is insane because they will only last like 3-4 years. I have a bunch of eleafs (minis for stealth vaping & 30W's), another is a bluetooth speaker mod that I got for free from vaporl and just had to pay the $5.99 shipping. And 10 were 60W's from a tank I wanted that was only available in a kit that came with a cheap built-in battery.

Most of these mods will go unused and are going to go to waste. They will most likely be just thrown away in 4 years time. The 10 60W cheap ones that came with the tanks/kits have minimal electronics, just a usb port and a single led light, with no LCD screen or wattage/voltage adjustments (see image).

I am going to ziplock bag them along with some silica gel packets. If they get ruined, it is no loss as they would have been garbage anyway.

The charts I have seen show that freezing after a year preserves only about 2% more of the batteries capacity compared to being at room temperature, but it does not go beyond the 1 year mark. My hopes are that it will slow the rate at which the battery deteriorates for several years where at room temp the battery would have a steep decline beyond the one year mark.

I will get back to you all about 4 years from now and let you how I made out. lmao

Another option is to offer swaps in the classys for something you want and can't find - you never know when someone's unwanted is your treasure!
I thought about that, but right now I cannot think of anything I want. Plus I have a lot of extra stuff already that I do not need that I can trade if I think of something needed in the future. And I doubt I will go through all of the eleaf's that I have in 3-4 years either and people would probably like those a lot better than the cheap 60W ones (better value).

I suggest you put them in the ziploc with the silica pac and leave them there for awhile before you put them in the freezer so the silica pac can get the humidity out of the air in the ziploc and it will lead to less ice crystals inside the ziploc bag.

Yeah, I already thought about that... great minds think alike! :)

Nice I have one of those coming in the mail in my newly purchased building kit!

Not sure I'm going to put in this order for Subtanks. The site says free shipping at $30 USD if you have an account but I just made an account and they still want $32.62 for shipping. Still would be a decent price but not the steal I'm looking for. I also don't like this "Customs duties not included."

Did you or anyone you know place an order here before @bsidb ?
I have but dont remember what the deal was, my shipping last night was 9$ for 2 subtanks, sorry it didnt work out for you @Haktuspit

I woke up to an email from 2F that they don't have the Blade Starry Night after all. Still says available on their site. Oh well

@bnrkwest I vote for the prepper mug. Where did you find that one?
See thats why I didn't order it. I had a premonition that would happen!

I've got some 18650s I started a "study" on this summer. All were benchmarked for IR and capacity. Two went in the freezer, and two in the fridge, both of these sets at 3.6V. Four more are at room temperature. Two of those are at 3.6V while the other two are fully charged.

FWIW, I have some li-ion power tool packs that aren't used much that are now over 8 years old and they're still usable. So even if you stored those mods at room temperature, I doubt they would be "dead" in a scant 3-4 years. Clfling batteried is far harder on them than just time in storage. I've seen that on laptops too. My daughter and I got identical laptops in 2016. She put a lot of cycles on hers in college and the battery in it was shot this summer. I used mine relatively little and it's still fine.

Note: If you're keeping batteries (or mods with non-replaceable batteries) in cold storage, it is essential to let them fully warm up before charging them. Never charge a cold li-ion cell! I would give them a full 24h to assume room temperature before charging.

Last night went to wick a KFL. It was an Infiniti clone. I only have a couple of them, mostly I have EhPros. Discovered the deck insulator was breaking down. It was burned looking and coming apart at the center end and little fibers were coming loose off the sides. That's the first insulator I've had a problem with. I've only had the Infiniti for a few months. Hoping they just came with crappy insulators and the EhPro are better quality.

My inventory list said I only had 6 spares but when I looked there were 16. 12 were light colored like the ones that come in the tanks and 4 were brown. No idea when I got them.

KFLs are my main tanks. I have plenty of most spares but I might look for some more deck insulators. Maybe pins as well, only got 4 of them.

I have a stack of EHPro Kayfun Lite V2 clones that have been in rotation for years. The only things I've had to change are o-rings to restore vacuum seal. So far, I've had no deck insulator issues.

The two Ulton Kayfun 2019 clones with 4ml expansion tanks came in a couple of days ago. I washed one in hot water and dish soap last night and will put it in service today or tomorrow. Looking forward to a shorter 24mm Kayfun that doesn't make my mods so top heavy.

I wanted a chemistry set when I was a kid. There used to be some really cool sets in a catalog, so I asked for one for Christmas. Christmas came, but there was no chemistry set under the tree. Years later, I found out the reason I didn't get one was that they were afraid I was going to burn down the house on accident. Got a good laugh out of that.

I screwed up the Formica top on a table in our breakfast room as a 12 year old kid doing chemistry experiments, but managed never to burn down the house. I got into model rockets at one time and tried making my own solid fuel rocket engines. Go bored after a while and went on to other things. That was probably a good idea. :)

Those EhPros are tough little suckers. I've replaced 2 o-rings in 5 years. And a couple of plastic sections where I dropped them and stripped the threads.

Thinking about trying the new ones. Could use them on Solos and keep the old ones for Provaris. I've resisted trying new tanks for years because I didn't want to start stocking up and collecting spares and all that again. Heard good reports about the 2019's though.

I wish they made a glass tank section for the KF 2019

It's new. Where there's demand, product follows. I guess we need to put a bug in the vendor's and manufacturer's ears. OTOH, polycarbonate tanks tend to survive a drop. Glass not so well.

Amazing what they let you do back then. Chemistry sets had all sorts of scary stuff in, they relied on you not to be stupid with it. I stole acid from school to make hydrogen to filled balloons at home. I even sneaked out mercury from school. Just loose in my pocket. It picks up lint but doesn't soak through the material. Chemistry sets for kids now are beyond bland. I remember getting them for the kids in the early 90's, probably even worse now.

Back in the 50's my father had a small pot of luminous paint. He kept it locked up and wouldn't let me mess with it. He said it was dangerous because it contained radium. I don't know if that was true.

I followed that link, thought it said $50 for free shipping.
