¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I can’t bring myself to buy any mechs. I just don’t know enough. I’ve read and read but ohms law is just not making that final click of “I get it!” And some are so pretty...

Mechs can be had for cheap, especially older tube models. You could just buy a couple and worry about learning about them along the way and/or when you come to a time were you think you'll be needing them.

On the other hand, if you
  • have enough money
  • focus on buying regulated mods on the cheap and
  • you buy enough
you probably will never need a mech anyway. What is "enough"? Well, IMHO, if you think you will live/vape for X years and you have enough regulated mods such that you could vape 1 mod per year, I would say...you're good! :D You could probably get away with less, though. Also, half your stash should be mods that take both 21700 and 18650 (like the Armour Pro in the link below).

I just posted the other day how you can buy 4 mods (from China) for $8.09 each shipped to your door (2 Armour Pro mods and 2 Katana mods). BUT there is a caveat for 2 of those mods you want to read about. It involves reading 2 posts I made. I will link to the post that has deal. That one will have a quote in it to my other post about the 2 Katana mods so you can figure out if they are right for you.

Realize, there are other deals. This is just one I know of and bought myself. $8/mod...not bad.

See this post for starters. If that link doesn't work (some ad blockers will disable it), just copy and past the following URL

Code:
https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/are-you-done-stocking-up.746997/page-2271#post-22456343

The deal is at 3AVape.com and the products and deal and coupons are still available/working right now.

Yes, same company too... I said outlet, but I meant factory (edited my post to reflect that). But my deal was way less than that price directly through them. Amazon would be $43.98 for 12, I paid $26.84 shipped FedEx. (That doesn't include the caps, but they are only 28 cents each for the polycone so $3.36/doz, so $30.20 shipped. A savings of $13.78).

You can always cancel the Amazon order if it did not ship yet.

EDIT: NM, I see you said they already shipped. :(

The easiest way to tell if a vendor is from China is if they take paypal. USA vendors can't use Paypal or any other 3rd party processor (any that you may find that do won't be doing it for long - paypal will eventually shoot them down). In fact, Chinese vendors these days seem to only take paypal and crypto currency - no credit cards directly anymore.
I only know of 1 U.S. shop that takes Paypal, but their main company is U.K. based,so all the payments run through the main company.I use them whenever i can so i don't have my card number all over the place haha.

Out of curiosity, how much were they (if you don't mind me asking)?
Just checked and they aren't showing a price since they're out of stock.

iStick 75W was $22 each and change. They haven't sent me an email receipt yet, just an order confirmation with no prices. So many vendors are out of stock. MyVaporStore has iStick Picos in stock in hot pink for $38.99. Go for it, Ladies!

The deals are hard to find. I guess the prices rise as more vendors start to sell out stock and wait for the dust to settle until after the feared govt lock down on vaping. Low prices are driven by fierce competition and right now stock is low from the Chinese New Year and the FDA uncertainty.

I’ve seen the green thread lol. I definitely need more than one 21700. With your guideline I can say I’ve got plenty 18650.

thanks so much for the good ideas!

@Terri McVeety - Since you like the iStick Pico, yet might want to get some mods that will work with a 21700 battery or a single 18650...you may like the iStick Pico 21700/18650 mods or kits. The kits come with an Ello tank. The mod alone and the kit also come with an adapter to use an 18650 battery. I found some on Clearance a few months ago and bought a bunch of them for myself and a friend. Might be some more Sales on them somewhere now or soon.

Go to Steam Engine | free vaping calculators and play with the coil winding calculator. You'll get an idea of what makes a suitable coil from the feedback in the calculator results. It's not that hard to do. You just decide what coil resistance you want, input that, and choose the wire you use from another pulldown menu. After that you can play with the numbers to arrive at the best parameters for your build.

As long as you vape electronic mods (and not mechs), winding your own coils is fairly safe. With an electronic mod you just get an "atomizer shorted "error message if the coil is shorted or out of range. With a mech you could get a hot battery or a spewing battery if a short occurs or the coil draws too much current.

You're welcome. The kit is usually called this in search results "Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 100W with Ello TC Kit" or "Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 100W TC Kit".

If you want to get your feet wet with a not-quite-mech that can take a 21700, there's the ehpro Armor Prime tube mod. It's a protected but unregulated (provides the direct battery voltage) mod, with a side fire button. Along with some decent basic protections it has a pair of tiny LEDs on either side of the fire button. The color change from green to yellow occurs when the battery voltage drops to 3.6v, a decent point to swap batteries (I forget when the transition from yellow to red occurs).

I do have a decent amount of experience with mechs, but still like this one a lot.

I use Paypal whenever I can. Vaporl takes it and so does MyVaporStore and most of the others I shop at.

Thank you! I love steam engine and use it regularly but it’s not helping me get ohms law. Mental block? Lol it’s probably not as complicated as I’m trying to make it.

I guess it’s the theory aspect and it seems they are using duplicate words for some things. I’ve seen the drawings explaining it, read many tutorials. I’m probably okay at around .6 ohm. I just don’t want to be or add to the statistics.

here’s what I think I know...510 is directly on the positive? End of the battery. The power is controlled by the resistance to the coil. The vape will change as battery level goes down. I’ve read that “you’ll know” when it’s low by the vape. Maybe I can get the blanks filled in.

I really think getting a few and leaving for last resort is something I should do

Or get something like that Armor Prime, get your feet wet before it becomes a necessity...

If you use android, there's an app called Vape Tool (I bought the Pro version, to support the author) that makes doing what-ifs for different coils pretty easy. I'm an engineer, but find VT much more pleasant to use than Steam Engine. It has a tab for ohms law - plug in a voltage and a resistance and it'll tell you how many watts and amps. The tab I use is the Coils one - a pretty logical page, you step through and at the bottom it tells you the resistance, general recommended power range, and the power you'll have at 3.7v (you can change the 3.7, calculate things for different voltages) .

Good practice is use SE or VT to come up with a coil you want to use, then do a check on a regulated mod or a standalone little resistance checker to make sure you're getting the expected resistance, before firing it up on a mech.

@Terri McVeety - I've found the iStick Pico 21700 kits for $38.82 each from a US vendor, with Free S/H if you buy 2 or more, or a total of $75 or more of any items. PM me if interested. Others I've found are $34.80-44 + S/H for just the mod alone from vendors in China!

Somewhere out there
I have one Armour Pro in green, happily ordered a 2nd at that price.

Light weight, 21700, good board, just a pleasure to use.

Everzon kicked out an ad saying they were selling them at $10, I happened to see that email as soon as it arrived - they were already OOS. That's bogus ("well, they would be $10 if we actually had any...")

Right now, Everzon claims to have 61 green in stock.

Here is a question, probably not the correct thread, but I know of at least one US E-Liquid vendor and sure to be a lot more that will be closing end of April and will have a large clearance sale. How do you all plan on storing E-liquid long term? Freeze in glass bottles? I DIY mix now again, started in 2010 and stopped out of being lazy, this would be stuff that we can't find the flavor(s) for or prices so cheap its hard to say no to buying.

I am not buying any more hardware as I am pretty well stocked except for 1 ohm RDL Zenith coils and maybe some more v-jet coils once they lower price from $2.50 for 5 pack to maybe $1 as they have a ton of them still in stock and they are not selling at $2.50. OF course will pick up some more Nic just to make sure I have enough. We all will keep an eye on sites closing for really dirt cheap hardware. This stocking up has already cost me almost $2k as i started out with just 2 devices and some coils! It would be fun to know how much everyone else has spent so far.

How is everyone storing their hardware? I am putting everything in double 1 gallon freezer bags and in a rubber maid bin. Moving to So FL this spring.
My recommendation, don't store in sealed containers unless you are very vigilant about keeping absorbant salt in the container. Condensation can be a problem.
