Only thing I have seen recently is CDC saying anyone ill or over 60 should not take a cruise, well yeah.
One would have to be completely nuts to go on a cruise right now. Age only affects the likely outcome if you catch this thing, it has no effect how many others you're likely to spread it to if you catch it yourself.
I still say that there is a lot we aren’t being told. Too many events and such getting canceled. They don’t do that for flu season so.... Not to say they aren’t excellent precautions though.
I don't think they're doing enough of that. E.g: from what I saw on the roads today, Daytona Bike Week seems to be in full swing roughly 30 miles south of here. Let's face it, the more people mingle, the faster this thing spreads.

It would be pretty ironic if vapers didn't get sick. I will continue to disinfect my air with Vapor just incase LOL!
And here's another potential benefit:
It's well known that respiratory viruses rarely kill people directly, but an immune system overreaction known as a “Cytokine Storm” can and often does. Well now...
Targeting the “Cytokine Storm” for Therapeutic Benefit
Nicotine is a nonselective agonist of the α7Ach receptor and is able to suppress the production of proinflammatory cytokines by mimicking the binding of acetylcholine.

This week I have a school concert starring a 14 year old niece. And Astronaut Day starring a 6 year old GGD where I'm a volunteer. I'm in charge of the bean bag toss station. Probably involves being pawed at and coughed on by 100 kids who think personal hygiene is boring old people stuff, and picking up a thousand unwashed bean bags.

I rarely get out in crowds. Now all I want is to stay home. Some things you just have to do though.

At the concert...I'd pick a seat in the last row, so there would be no one behind you potentially sneezing or coughing at your head. If you stand up and clap loudly or cheer for your niece during the performance...she'll know you were there, even in the back row.

For the beanbag toss...I'd wear a pair of latex gloves. Kids, especially younger ones around your GGD's age, certainly use their hands for some very gross purposes sometimes. :D

And what about all the “chicken littles” that were running around screaming “oh my God vaping is unsafe”? Stirring things up more? Yeah their mouths are shut right now.

I’ll be very happy to be wrong

Just read an article that 20k Americans including 136 children have died from the flu this year. Kinda puts things in perspective.

Flu has killed 20K Americans including 136 children so far this season, CDC says

    Back to numbers:
2019/2020 US flu season numbers to date: 20,000 deaths in 34,000,000 cases = 0.06% fatality rate

As of right this instant, latest US coronavirus numbers I've seen are 21 deaths in 550 cases = 3.8%.

Say it's going to decrease by a factor of 4, so it's "only" 0.95%. That would make it 0.95/0.06 = 16x as deadly as this year's flu.

    1) That factor of 4 is pulling a number out of the air, but it would still make coronavirus a LOT more dangerous than this year's flu season.

    2) The current worldwide numbers (3800 deaths over 108,000 cases) are running at a bit over 3.5% fatality rate, IOW 58x as deadly as this years flu numbers for the US.

As of right now, based on the actual numbers, coronavirus is over 50x as dangerous as this year's US flu season.

The sky isn't falling, but given the current actual numbers this isn't a trivial matter. If 34m Americans fell ill with covid-19 (that's how many have had the flu so far this season), based on the current fatality rate it would be over 1 million deaths. An even bigger thing is the health system right now isn't set up to handle that many extremely sick people - not enough ventilators, not enough isolation capability, not enough...

Even with relatively large numbers of people getting flu shots each year, we've had 20000 deaths so far this season. There is no coronavirus vaccine, won't be for another year at best. A flu shot, while good to get, does not protect you from covid-19.

I'm a little bit skeptical of that. I had a nasty flu back in November that lasted for weeks. And I vape a much higher PG ratio than most people here.

It was just one study and it was done on mice back in 1947. No indication that it was ever reproduced. However, even the flu shot isn't always 100% effective. I got bronchitis earlier this year, but that's the first time in years I've been sick, and I've worked in pediatric clinics, prison infirmities, ERs, and I've taught school. It's only after I retire that I get sick. :)

Hubby got a flu shot & I didn't, we both got the Victoria flu this year, he had it much worse than I did but got over it quicker. Mine was not as severe but lasted twice as long. It's a toss up on how someone reacts to the same disease. Maybe vaping kept mine from getting worse, who knows. Covid-19 is so new no one really has a good handle on it. Me, I will be semi hermit until things improve out there. No need to look for trouble :)

Came across this article. I wish I could find the original research.

Scientist Discovers Inhaled Propylene Glycol Kills Flu Virus

Scientist Discovers that Inhaled Propylene Glycol Kills the Flu Virus
This was posted elsewhere, can't remember where, but I had bookmarked it... It has a pdf with the research: THE BACTERICIDAL ACTION OF PROPYLENE GLYCOL VAPOR ON MICROORGANISMS SUSPENDED IN AIR. I

It says bactericidal, but it also mentions influenza virus.... So it also applies to viruses as well.

Say it's going to decrease by a factor of 4...
Just curious, did you just pull that number out of your .... to be really super-duper optimistic? lol ;)

Like you said, with no flu shot for the coronavirus, the infection rate could be much higher...although for the standard flu we do no test and isolate infected people at the level we are for the coronavirus so I suppose it could be less, but if it was 34,000,000 infections, like you said that would be 1,190,000 dead in the US alone (at 3.5%).

With just under 7.8 billion people on the planet, a 3.5% death rate would be 273,000,000 dead globally (equivalent to the entire population of the United States in 1997)... That's if everyone in the world were to be infected, which would be highly unlikely. A 10% infection rate (which is a rough average of the regular flu), would be only 27,300,000 dead globally. I doubt it would be anywhere near that bad because we are aware and there is a world-wide effort in actively trying to suppress it, plus a vaccine could be available in about a year. (So I guess that could account for a decrease by a factor of 4, probably more) ;) Either way, odds are that things will get much worse before it gets better and many people will die. :(

The problem with calculating the mortality rate is, testing is scarce. We have no idea how many cases there are, but we seem to be getting sort of accurate numbers on the deaths.

I’m not saying it’s not more deadly than flu. It likely is. But it’s highly possible there are more unreported sick people than reported ones. Not only are test kits not available, but also, how many symptomatic people haven’t bothered to even go to their doctors?

Well VaporRL refunded my order placed back in early Jan. I did not ask them to but they stated it was because they have no idea when my items will be back in stock given the COVID-19 mess. Now taking stock to see if the 4 tanks and 2 mods are even really necessary to my stash to bother finding replacements. Leaning towards nope not necessary. LOL

In other new I now have a pair of Dansko clogs that actually FIT! Foot size change half a size in length and 2 sizes in width with the weight loss. Amazing how much nicer walking is when you are not struggling to keep your shoes on your feet.

Walmart near me was out and I guess they decided to head to piggly wiggly where I was buying groceries and started buying all the big packs. What’s sad is I was really running out and I always buy a 12 pk, I had to push my way in to get my normal pack. I didn’t buy the 24 like all the crazy’s. Walmart needs to do this.;)

We have had, as i posted the other night, really stupid scenes of people fighting over loo rolls here in Australia

Entire shelves of common things are empty, people are really going full bonkers on this thing...i hope they'll be able to look at themselves afterwards and live with how theyve behaved...

I went shopping the other day and bought the same stuff i buy every week (aspie repetitive tendency) and noticed it wasnt cacthing on, people were just nuckign futs

That pic btw is not faked, taken by a long time vaper here who asserts its real and that someone in his local mall has a sense of humour

I don’t get it. They make napkins to buy, don’t flush them and you will be fine, also I’m not ashamed of using wash clothes, people need to prioritize and TP is not that item for me.
