Good points everyone, I have a question though mainly for the older vapers, when smoking was aloud everywhere did you still get the same cravings that you do or is it more that you know you won't be able to have one. I will be thirty in January and I remember 10 years ago still being able to smoke most places, when I was in college and worked in a movie theater they let us smoke in the theater during the screenings of the films (they view them before the public, to make sure they are put together correctly), to now how restrictive things are today, that might be a part of it. Cigarettes today except rollies in my humble opinion, don't have as much stuff in them so not as much cravings, I found that switching to rollies about four years ago. I have noticed with vaping that the urges are less intense, where I work I get a 30 minute lunch thats it and don't find that I really need nicotine since I started vaping its less of a need, I do enjoy it and I do get cravings but it is less then with rollies, to be honest and this just might be me, I never did enjoy smoking in the morning, only did it out of habit I would normally wait until 11:00 on my days off to smoke that is getting up at 9:00. The only time I want nicotine with smoking (past Tense) or vaping now is after a lunch or dinner meal or a evening drink( have a couple drinks every night.) I think tobacco nicotine is different though also depending on its delivery system. As mentioned in other posts I am an civil war reenactor and when the public is there to talk to I can't vape (because obviously it did not exist in the 1860's) but I will smoke a pipe and I find with that even though enjoyable not a gate way to go out and buy a pack of smokes, I actually miss my pv when I use a pipe because I am using clay or corn cob which are hot and are terrible at keeping lit. Or another example any one else notice that when vaping around smokers that the smell is terrible, of course I don't say anything but it does! and to think we used to all smell like that. I am at 18 mg currently but would like to go done to 4 mg because there are some benefits to nicotine. just my :2c:

Are you physically addicted to vaping?
I'm physically addicted not to vaping but to men without hats.
Let's try to keep this thread on topic please. Here is the link in Iffy's post if anybody wants to use it, novelty.

Back to the topic...

While I am addicted to vaping, I wonder how much it would manifest itself physically if I went without for long periods (days-weeks). It is a little bit harder to run out of juice/battery life for me than it was to run out of a pack of cigs. I never bought cartons, but with ecigs, I have a set-up that can pretty much run on auto pilot, so the two are not easily compared for me.

I have been thinking about this topic for a while and would like to know what you all think.

-Are you physically addicted to vaping?
-Are you psychologically addicted to vaping?
-If you answered yes to both physiological and psychological addiction to vaping, how does it play out in comparison with your (previous) addiction to cigarettes? Any similarities? Not even close?
-Is it possible that some of us are infatuated with vaping as opposed to being straight-up addicted?

Thoughts?
:pop:

I don't think I am physically addicted to vaping. I think I had an addiction to analogs which vaping allowed me to satiate. I am psychologically addicted to vaping. My partner even said I was obsessed with vaping (as well as my parents and 2 of my close friends (who are weekend smokers)). After learning and watching Youtube vids on ecigs, I talk about vaping A LOT! Ecigs have been able to do for me what the patches/drugs/cold turkey could not....which is QUIT SMOKING! After reading studies done with Alzheimer's patients and nic patches showing nic's benefits, I don't think I will completely get off of nic. I plan on getting down to a low dose...somewhere around 3-6 mg in the future.

I started vaping when I had tried to quit analogs for a week. I did not want to disappoint myself by buying a pack of smokes after a week off analogs. I have been vaping exclusively for a little over 3 months, and I know I am addicted to analogs. Vaping does satisfy some of the nic withdrawals, but I suspect there are other chemicals in cig smoke that affect nic addiction. I still have cravings for analogs, and think about smoking an analog at least once a day. I vape to satisfy those cravings for an analog. I started vaping at 24 mg, and now, I am vaping at 12 mg. I think I may need to get a higher nic strength in order to combat my cravings for an analog:confused:. Vaping does not give me that same "buzz" ("head rush" or "dizziness" from a morning smoke or just smoking really fast) I got when I smoked which tells me that there's a lot more to my addiction than just nic.

As for my psychological addiction....

After buying my kit from a mall kiosk, I found that the batt life on the kit I bought was terrible! So, I went out on the web and learned A LOT about e-cigs. The batts, cartos, attys, mods, etc satiated that geeky side of me! :D I bought another kit similar to the one I bought from the mall, but the new kit included a PCC and an extra batt for much less. Then, I bought a Bolt mod. After a month of use, I noticed it wasn't firing my cartos as quickly as when it was brand new, and found out that the wire used in the mod was very thin, so to satisfy the geek in me, I replaced the wiring. :D Now, I have 2 vv devices (the L-Rider and an Apollo VTube), and I am thoroughly enjoying playing with the different voltages with different ohm cartos/attys. It is because of this new hobby, I now own a soldering iron, soldering resin, a vacuum solder pump, a dremel, and a saddle valve in my tool collection. :D

My next step in vaping??? DIY!!! (After some more researching and collecting and experimenting with more flavors, of course)

I still smoke from time to time. Not often, but I always feel like I need to take a shower after. It's incredible that I went so long without knowing how bad I smelled to everyone ha

The mall and misery. The good news they broke you into vaping, so +1 to the mall kiosk. The bad news is most of them have 400% markups, -1.

Someday you'll break even ;)

The ritual that goes with vaping is significant to me too actually. There was nothing equivalent to it when I smoked tabs. I can imagine former pipe smokers feeling quite at home, what with all the cleaning out of tanks, mixology, prepping your away team tool bag, rotating batteries, rebuilding your Genesis (or Vivi Nova for ghetto vapers like me).

There's a great deal more to it than pulling off a seal, throwing some foil in the trash, patting a pocket for your zippo, locating the ashtray and sparking up. And I bet most of us wouldn't have it any other way, the preparation, the fiddling about with settings and toying with a nice lump of pv that does it's job well is one of life's luxuries.

And while I could say there were significant cigarettes of the day, they all tasted just as foul as each other and the only thing that marked them was the hit and the act of repetition, and the feeling afterwards was always nagging guilt, a bad smell and a bad taste in the mouth that if I'm honest, I never enjoyed. Every time I vape it's a pleasure that's pretty much free of guilt.

Vaping's awesome isn't it?

That is definitely part of the addiction for me. When a force like nicotine is wrapped up into a hobby of tinkering, research, hunting and fun--watch out!

Dito.

Playing with toys is half the fun, though switching from a tank to an atty and then dripping in a car is sometimes very frustrating.

I'm not sure how addicted I am to vaping. I can go quite a while (almost a whole day) without vaping and not have a particular craving for it, but when I go back to it, it tastes like heaven and makes me feel great. The psychological addiction is more about having something to do while driving or when I'm on the computer. It's a nervous habit, like biting my nails. Seeing someone smoking usually makes me crave my PV, and I'm guessing that's a psychological aspect as well.

Compared to cigarettes? I couldn't go 6 hours without a smoke without feeling terrible. A whole day and I'd want to hurt someone. Vaping doesn't even come close to that.
