I'm still at 2.4 seventeen months in and I have no desire to lower my nic. I truly enjoy that throat hit, I need it for this to work for me. I also view it as a person addicted to Starbucks. It's not the nicotine that was going to kill me, it was everything else. For some, the goal is to completely ween themselves off nicotine, for others, it's a healthier alternative to smoking. I truly enjoy vaping, way more than I ever did smoking. I'm having fun. And while it's true I've simply replaced one addiction for another, this one comes with the added benefits that I no longer stink, my family and friends don't ostracize me, and my girlfriend can kiss me without gagging.

Nicotine is just about as harmless as coffee is, unless you have cardiac issues and then you should probably use the lowest amount possible. I have no plans to eliminate nicotine from my life at this time since if i did i would absolutely not be able to deal with the majority of people i see on a daily basis in my area.

personally I didnt want to quit smoking, i just wanted to quit dying.

This is amazing.

That is where I am at right now. I quit like 3 months or whatever ago and started right off the bat just vaping 0mg nic. However, I have slipped a few times usually on the weekends and had a few cigs..

I think I am going to go to 6mg (I diy so just ordered nicotine) just to keep myself at bay. IF it makes no difference I will drop back to 0.

If only the health insurance companies shared your views. If you have nicotine in you're system you are a smoker....(according to them, not me). Pay up!!!!

I vape, purely as an alternative to smoking ... I may reduce my nicotine one day ... then again, I may not.

However, I also drink regular beer with no desire to wean down to light beer and then onto non-alcoholic beer.

Vaping with nicotine is not an issue for me ... smoking cigarettes were the issue :2cool:

I like your argument. I too choose to drink my booze and do not intend to ween or wean myself down to non alcoholic booze. I enjoy the freedom of enjoying something legal.

I also drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day!!!:ohmy:

Tried going to decaf but the "freaking out" from lack of caffeine after every sip scared my wife.

I bet that was disgusting to watch. LOL

But at all honesty, maybe the OP is in the rationalizing phase of quitting smoking and didn't mean harm...

Sorry, I challenge your premise that the purpose of quitting smoking is to get away from addicting drugs. My sole purpose in quitting was to get healthier than I was while smoking. Thumbing my nose at big pharma and the gov and big tobacco are all side benefits.

There are recent studies that nicotine has health benefits and I seriously doubt inhaling nicotine will cause stomach cancer.
I do not, will not make my lifestyle changes to suit you. I do what I do and if it does not directly affect you, it is none of your business.

i spent 2 decades trying to quit unsuccessfully.

even chain vaping at 36mg left me experiencing withdrawal. pretty sure it wasn't nicotine i was withdrawing from.

it wasn't until i changed my goals from quitting smoking (inhaling anything) to dying slower and stinking less that i found success.

now my clothes are no longer orange, my walls no longer need a weekly degrease, i no longer smell like the bottom of a .... can, i can sleep through the night without having to get up drowning in mucus, etc., etc., etc..

i'll quit coffee more than likely long before i quit nic.

though, i will reduce nic at the rate at which my body tells me i should. been a couple months and it's telling me that it's almost time to drop down below 36mg. 24mg is about almost satisfying in the dripper these days.

either way - quitting had nothing to do with my reasoning. quitting nicotine had even less to do with it. i have no intentions on quitting nicotine. it doesn't seem to be harming me in any way as of yet. as a matter of fact, i seem to be healing quite nicely from the decades of abuse and tar i put my body through.

I've been vaping for over a year already, and I was only able to totally go cigarette-free when I upped my juice's nic to 18 around six months ago. Since then I've been able to bring down my nic levels to the 2mg-6mg range (most of my juices are DIY). This reduction was more because of skimping on supplies than a conscious effort to take in less nicotine. I only discovered that I could be happy with less and less nicotine.

That said, I still cannot stand 0 nic; I need even just a little to be satisfied. I won't go zero unless I find it satisfying. And I don't feel compelled to eventually go there (though that would pleasantly reduce the cost of making juice--which is already dirt-cheap at this point for me).

This is based on two premises which I would call "false".1- The addictive nature of tobacco (in the form we get it in), is due to nicotine. Not so. Ask pretty much any vaper, or dig up some research if you don't believe that. I believe it's wrong to draw the conclusion that "cigarettes are bad, so nicotine is bad". Nicotine may be (and probably is) not good for us, but what is?2. Nicotine acts the same at all levels of concentration in our blood stream. Not so. At lower concentrations nicotine acts as a stimulant. At higher concentrations it acts as a relaxant. It's not just about picking ones poison with nicotine. It is also about picking the effect of ones selected poison.I am under the firm belief that nicotine may well be one of the least harmful substance we inhale while vaping. I do not want to go through gallons (taken to the extreme) of food flavoring to get my quick nic fix. I also believe that the safest route would be not to inhale any of what we currently are. Dropping to zero nic and still keeping up the inhalation of food flavorings, PG&VG is, for me... quite puzzling... and should not make anyones horse any higher. I've picked my poison. That poison is nicotine. What I have eliminated by switching from smoking to vaping, is all the other poisons I did not pick, but came with the territory.Sorry for the slightly grumpy rant. I knew someone would say something similar, to which I reply you missed the whole point. I never asked why you aren't changing to suit me. I asked why you aren't changing so that you won't suffer. Its kind of a logical question that anyone would ask someone else, who could prevent their own suffering but just naively goes on without giving it a thought. Sooner or later, you're going to be in a situation where you don't get to vape for a good long time. But if you've weened down to zero nic, then you won't really care. If you're still in the higher levels you'll act like a druggie that needs a fix, which is technically what you are. What we all were, back when we smoked. But now there is this opportunity.

All you have to do, is instead of vaping 30mg, switch to 28 one day and vape that for a month. And so on. You'd think this would be completely apparent to most people, but I guess not.

    After smoking for 50+ years, trust me, you wouldn't want to be on the same planet as me without nicotine in my system!
    I was about 9 years old when I figured out that if I swiped on of my dads cigarettes I could make the throat ticks go away (Tourette's syndrome). By the time I out grew the Tourette's I was nicotine dependent.











    that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it

    This is Psychology 101. Should you not get a dog, because it will die and you will feel grief? Should I not enjoy the moment, for one day it may be gone, and I will miss it? Should I not enjoy a sunny day, because tomorrow it will rain?

    We're all very proud of you and your accomplishments. If you don't want/need nicotine, then good for you. Why address us common folk from your mountaintop in such a superior manner, though? Why not just say "I weened myself off nicotine completely and here's how I did it..."? You would have been met with all kinds of congratulations and back pats. Instead, you infer that anyone who doesn't follow your life plan is somehow inferior to you. Your delivery sucks. All the same, I'm really happy for you...YOU DA MAN, BENNY!!!

    Again, I am someone who still chooses to smoke, and I do so moderately.

    I think I get that this is foreign to many people - vast majority of vapers, vast majority of smokers, vast majority of non-smokers and non-vapers.

    But I am experiencing this thing called moderate smoking. And it is very nice. It is not plausible to call it an addiction anymore, as I could choose to enter into that space where I quit and don't smoke anymore. As I have been there before, by choice, I am okay with people who choose no more smoking. But I do honestly still find smoking enjoyable, and especially when it is done in moderation. I believe moderation is entirely possible due to vaping which presents an alternative to constantly craving yet another smoke. In about the last week, I've had one smoke in my pack that is around a month old now. I am fairly certain that all (former) smokers can relate to that feeling of panic/desperation when you are down to last few in a pack and you are wondering how soon you will get that next pack. I no longer experience that. And yet, I still smoke.

    I prefer vaping.

    I do not like that vast majority of people I encounter (everywhere) hate on smoking and say things that are simply not accurate once someone becomes or is a moderate smoker. Whatever is the evil that persons say about smoking strikes me as inaccurate about the general act of smoking. While it strikes me as fairly accurate when it deals with heavy smoking, or abuse. IMO, it is very challenging to abuse traditional cigarettes when one is serious about vaping / enjoys vaping (nicotine). Yet, I don't get that spin, really at all, and had to discover this for myself. And so I attest to something that many others continue to judge and exercise extreme prejudice against, while realizing and occasionally vocalizing, as I am in this post, that your strong opinions about the evils of smoking are simply inaccurate, in at least one case.

    I truly wish vapers/vaping community would stop hating on traditional cigarettes in an effort to make vaping seem better. Vaping is wonderful, vaping is enjoyable, and vaping is helpful ... even without notion of it having anything to do with cessation from smoking or having to do with ugly addiction.

    Vaping nicotine is not necessary, you need not do this to survive (in vast majority of cases).
    But it is clearly desirable, and by most accounts is relatively harmless, to vaper and those exposed to secondhand vapor.
    Please, please, please let us stop shaming choices of those who appear to enjoy vaping nicotine a lot, otherwise it'll go the way smoking has gone, where we make all these claims about harm, abuse, addiction. And we will be misguided then, just as we are misguided now (about smoking).

    My opinions, based on my experience.
    Take this with a grain of salt.

    I went down to 16, 14, 12, 10, etc etc until I got to zero. If for whatever reason, I can not vape, no big deal. So why don't most people do this? Why would you want to remain addicted, so that if something happens where you just can't vape, you go into freakout mode? Its actually disgusting to watch. There are plenty of situations that could arise that could prevent you from being able to vape, possibly for days at a time. Nicotine has also been linked to stomach cancer so that's another reason.

    I am convinced modern cigs contain substances more addictive than nicotine. Strangely, I do NOT "go into freakout mode" when I cannot vape. When I smoked 10 light cigs a day, a few hours of deprivation made me feel like ripping someone's face off. I was certainly addicted, and I assumed it was to nicotine. So why does it NOT bother me when, for whatever reason, I can't vape? I'm using 16-20 mg now, MORE nic than when I smoked. Yet I am not constantly preoccupied with when/where/how I'll get my next "dose". The first vape of the day doesn't give me the head rush that the first cig did. I can go places where vaping isn't possible, and it doesn't bother me to set vaping aside for hours or most of the day. But don't touch my coffee cup, lol!

    So why not just quit vaping, if I don't find it as addictive as cigs? Read the scientific studies of long-term nicotine use as it relates to dementia, Alzheimer's, and ADHD. Fascinating to realize a potential medical use. That's a major reason for not just tossing it all away. I do have several other reasons (like the flavors!), but I thought the OP would find this one most interesting. (OP: the study of stomach cancer you mention has eluded me; can you post a link or reference to that study?)

    I'd be interested to learn what substance in cigs held me so addicted for so long, because it obviously was NOT the nicotine.
