What I find interesting is that satan also quotes Scripture to Jesus. Satan knows full well all about Scripture and knew full well that Jesus was coming. The key for me in this (and yes I could certainly hear satan's voice dripping with not only sarcasm but incredible contempt) is Jesus while tempted by satan did not really "follow" satan anywhere. He went of His own free will because it was already written in Heaven by God that He would prevail over satan's temptations. Yes, He could have given in to any of those temptations but to truly be able to forgive the sins of man, He had to go through all the experiences to understand the sins and temptations satan places before man.
Jesus knows that satan hates each and every single one of us and would like nothing better than to rip us limb from limb; so to save man from the fate satan has in store for us in hell, He needed to face satan head on, face to face and toe to toe armed with the Word and Truth of God so that He could prevail over satan. Understanding what man has to face from satan's deceptions and temptations to sin, so He could wash us clean of every single sin with His blood on the cross. If Jesus had not gone through this experience how could he even begin to know what sins we as humans face at the hands of satan, for which He was willing to giving up His life to cleans us free of them, as well as grant us forgiveness and absolution by providing the intercession for us with God the Father.
I agree that satan had to be furious when Jesus rose on the third day in fulfillment of the Scripture, even though he knew it was going to happen. After that satan must have really ramped up his campaign against us, and is furious for every single one of us who is saved by Christ and our names entered in the Book of Life. I also believe satan still continues to tempt each and every single one of us, every single minute of every single day, whether we are Saved by Christ or still wandering around in the darkness. We are armed with the Truth, the Word of God, just as Jesus was. We just need to remember that each and every day and give thanks and praise to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Those who are not need our help.
