I would have switched sooner had there been ads showing me the options other than the disposable ecigs sold at gas stations and patches and gums. If BT has money in the ecig industry, it only makes sense that they would want to protect their new investment. It might be a good thing to get the power of the BT industry on our side. Only time will tell.

As a marketing guy myself, I think Blu's "cool" guy ad is an example of their greed and stupidity. The marketing people there probably think they are geniuses, but the ad is proof of their extreme marketing ineptitude and ignorance. It will draw negative attention to the industry. Pundits will start bringing up "the children" in no time and when that happens it could bring regs that affect us. I think e cigs can be advertised, but in a subtle way. Blu is trying to pull the old "Look at this cool actor guy with a cigarette in his mouth, you should smoke one too." card. It's in poor taste, and despite their wording in the ad, it will connect ecigs with regular cigs in non-user's minds.

Pundits and the FDA are already there .. as to the rest of your commentary, I have no comment ..

They aren't glamourising, like alcohol ads, or old smoking ad, or coca cola selling sugar - they are specifically pitched as informative ads to smokers, selling it very specifically as an alternative to smoking.

I see no problem with this whatsoever.

If there were hot girls, young people, fast cars, and trendy music etc, and selling e-cigs to the general population then I would say its damaging.

But its not, so its fine. Raising exposure is saving lives, and spreading awareness. Good stuff IMO.

First time I saw the ad a few months back on Comedy Central, I was blown away they even allow them to air an ecig commercial. I think having the ads on tv is a loud scream that these are not cigarettes. They may eventually ban ecig ads too, but for the moment it's a pretty clear statement they are different products. Corporate media is probably pretty pleased getting some of that big tobacco ad money again. I doubt they would have let a small company like Provape advertise a Provari even at 2 am on some obscure channel- not worth the backlash.

That's a pretty good point.

They sell hemarroid cream, tampons and toothpaste using attractive people. Thats not glamour advertising, its pretty much standard. Glamour advertising would be if it was all young and hip, involved sexy women and cool music etc. Not even close.

Its just the same sort of dude, that would also tell us how to work out, who to buy insurance from, or what to do about male pattern baldness, lol...

I am sure ive been told how to save power around the home in a very similar manner to some of these ads.

Gotta say, growing really tired of all the conspiracy theories and what not. Sign the petition and wait to see what goes down. That is all we can do right now. BLU will NOT be the only ecig for sale. That would be a monopoly of a market and that is illegal. If BLU or NJOY are allowed to produce under whatever guidelines, so will any other company that follows them. We do not yet know what any guidelines may be (if at any).

I do think they tried to take somewhat of a "hey, look how cool vaping is" type of angle.
And I think they did it because a lot of smokers think vaping is stupid and that vapers look like douchebags.

But trying to make them look "cool" will play right into the hands of the ANTZ.
It will reinforce their "think of the children" argument.

That doesn't mean I don't personally approve of the commercial, but I do see a potential problem with that approach.
