not familiar with SLB, JSB, or Boge. i take it those are replicas?

know of a cheap place to get em?

Some call them "clones" but they are 510 attys made by manufacturers other than the original design manufacturer. I've been vaping on a 510 Bauway from MadVapes this afternoon and the taste is fantastic! It's much cooler so not as much TH but loads of great vapor. This would get me back to using 510 attys again if it stays this good for awhile. ValueVapor has SLBs for $4.99 and I've heard others like them. I've only bought their 901s.

I don't know who sells the Boge... anyone know???

Thanks so muc for persisting on this, and thanks to Sun for pushing the envelope further.

So it also appears the issue is with bulk or loose 510 attys - any reports of affected attys that came as part of a packaged kit?

I had bad ones from a couple of kits. Also the best atty I ever had was from a kit.

3.1v actually, as all Joye 510s are.
Carrying an eGo and a spare battery and a 5ml-bottle to refill is sure better than spare batteries and PCC and whatnot.

My fully charged Tornado battery reads 3.79v; I don't have a standard 510 batt around to check but I'm pretty sure it was in the same neighborhood.

Now, the resistances on my attys are not so consistent. Since the great Joye 510 debacle I've been stocking up on non-Joye attys and this is what I've seen in comparison:

  • On the Joye attys: 2.3, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.9 ohms.
  • On SLB attys: 3.3 and 3.4 ohms.
  • On the Bauway attys that I just got today: 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 ohms.

So far the SLB and Bauway attys have given me the best vaping experience. The real Joye attys have been frequently problematic and maybe it's because they run so hot that they get gunked up more quickly. (Before I cleaned them with a dry burn, the middle two Joyes had 4.4 and 4.6 ohms of resistance.)

I've been lucky so far with the Joyes that I did get because only a few had the nasty smell/taste issue. The one of those that I have left is the 2.3 ohm one and I think I'm going to throw that one away because I keep getting an acrid smoke when I dry burn (which the others don't produce).

Why not use a 'line' (wick) that doesn't burn, regardless of there being enough liquid or not??

I find once an atomizer dries out and that wick burns, even a little bit, the taste is always lingering no matter it being washed, enough liquid after, etc.

I think the best thing would be to use something that doesn't burn up.

Do check the link I gave: It's voltage under load, not merely measuring the battery voltage when it's not used. When a Joye 510 (that includes the eGo) actually runs, it runs on around 3.1. So if you put it on 3.7, no wonder it gets a tad hot.
Which is the reason, saft to assume, why many people who vape on mods prefer non-Joye 510s.

I think it's infulent by three aspects:
1.we should keep the atomizer moist ,if the liquid is used out,it may smelling a little burnt taste, because it works like this :liquid flow to atomizer by line(which material can bear high temperature),when you smoke ,the heating wire are trun red,so ,if there is no liquid ,it only can burn the lines,so smelling burnt. If the liquid is enough ,i think it will much better
2.The liquid quality is too bad ,i think bad liquid of course lead to bad smelling.
3.Maybe we should smoking one mouth, then ,after 5 seconds,we begin the second, because if we don't have any stop but continuous,it means the heating wire still burning.
4.Maybe also infulent by the structure in side.Different design maybe have different questions, may be we should find a good desing in side,For easy change the liquild to smoking .

Welcome to the forum ninaxiong. If you go to post #214 by Sun Vaporer you'll read his testing results on the defective Joye attys many are reporting. This isn't a matter of "user error" which is often the problem with a foul taste, but an inferior metal wicking bridge that burns and crumbles.

the current wick is sufficient resistant, problematic batch aside, the 510 wick burns even somewhat clean if i dryburn a clogged atomizer. the old liquid residue is what causes a burnt smell, not the fibre itself. i've done that in the meantime often enough that i can say:

a dryburned atomizer doesn't smell burnt.

I've tried this with some of my attys that aren't from the bad batch and it seems like a good method. I think I get scared and stop before it gets all the gunk off, though. Can you please explain how you do it? Thanks :)

when i do dry burns, i usually rinse with hot water first then let it dry a bit. i use my USB passthrough and let it run for about 10 seconds while blowing gently on the atomizer. i do this until the coil cherrys up and no more vapor is coming out. then i do another rinse and let it dry.

a good way to speed up the drying process is to put your atty in a container with some damp-rid or dry-rite or silica gel (all dessicants) it will pull all the moisture out of it. i used to blow it dry with a can of compressed air but that ends up ruining the silica wick and it will eventually come out completely.

Now, the resistances on my attys are not so consistent. Since the great Joye 510 debacle I've been stocking up on non-Joye attys and this is what I've seen in comparison:

thats kinda odd to me. i would think that anything in the 2.x ohms range would perform a lot better than something in the 4.x range.

@GoodDog, i do a little variation from janty_miks proposed method.

at one point he says he does 4 X 12 second dry burns. i only make those long dryburns until the noise of the atomizer gets weaker, because its really dry.

after that i look at the coil and press the button until it glows red for 1 second and stop ! should be shorter intervals now 3-5 seconds.

then i do that again a few times. if the atomizers shell gets hot, i let it cool down. if the coil gets red in 1 second, the atomizer is well again and time to reprime it with at least 5 drops of PG or liquid. i let it cool down and blow it out again to get some weird taste off.

after that reprime with 3 drops, put cart on and vape away for 2 weeks again.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...nty-tip-cleaning-your-atomizer-right-way.html

keep in mind that i would not do that on my last 2 atomizers, but before i throw them into the bin, i can make a "soft" dryburn to revive them.

and its really needed to rinse them with hot water and dry them before the dryburn, otherwise you will most likely kill the atomizer instead of getting rid of the dirt.

Sorry, I didn't see a link. After studying it and doing a little background reading, it makes me curious to try a KR808D battery with the 510 atty (or maybe just a 5V pass-through).

thats kinda odd to me. i would think that anything in the 2.x ohms range would perform a lot better than something in the 4.x range.

Definitely, it's just that the Joye 510 attys with the lower resistance keep baking on gunk until they end up with that higher resistance. At that point they don't vape well until I dry burn to clean them. (Maybe I need to change to a less dense e-juice...)

yeah that makes sense. i havnt tasted the flavor of my juice in forever. not since my first atty that worked well. i try my friends attys (which were purchased same time as my first kit) and its like a flavor explosion. but mine, according to my friends, taste like burnt tortillas. even after a cleaning hah.

Hi Vhal! I had the exact same experience as you're having. It sucked. BUT I received my Bauway from Madvapes this week and I can taste it all again! It's been wonderful!

Here is the link if you're interested.....they only have a few left though, so hurry!!
