new build

9 wraps of 26G nichrome on a 1.5mm bit, ~.5 ohms. I played with various wick set ups, and decided that for me tight wick to coil apposition is really important.

Dice and Jeremy, I tried what I think you guys are describing, and it works great, but I noticed the vapor wasn't as dense as I wanted it. Loose internal or external wicks seem to create more sputtering and violent dry-ups at the end of the hit (That "Hsssssssssst" sound and the taste of metal)

I took a piece of cotton and rolled it, breaking the fluffy rule :). Then I went around the coil and long leg...inside and outside the long leg. I hope this video shows where it ended up.

(click for video)

Hopefully you can see that the coil is ~1mm off the base, and there isn't any cotton between the lowest coil and air hole. No gurgles this way at all. With the tight wick around the outside the vapor has no choice but to shoot up in a very concentrated form. I might be nuts, but I think I can taste and see the difference.

(btw this was all done with a battery drained to 3.7...fresh battery doubles the ridiculousness :) )

Someone told me that in order to get the huge clouds, yoy have to lung-inhale. Is this true? (I prefer mouth-to-lung).

Put it this way, whatever you can get from mouth inhaling, you can get more from a lung inhale. But you can still get really dense, thick vapor on a mouth inhale. Lung inhale won't change the quality of the vapor much, just give you more of it to look at :)

Damn the Russian looks nice. I've got one coming but still several weeks out.

I've grown to love it, but only because of this coil. To be honest standard horizontals in the russian really don't make me happy, vape isn't dense enough. Somehow I remember my penelope producing a much thicker vapor, which makes no sense to me really... but that was also before I was ruined by sub ohms and duals. This build has literally saved the atty for me!

Yeah I was kinda in the same boat. I got away from the Penelope and everything else that required cotton/silica/whatever through the coil for various reasons. Now i'm wanting to get a trident because I like the way these coils perform so much. I still like my mesh and ceramic but definitely going to have nano/micro in one of my attys for daily usage.

Hey Cyrus glad its working good for you. We are all still experimenting. I had major problem with the half straight c wick the c was too loose and knocked off the coil and the hit I had was the dry burning of the coil. Worst dry hit ever. Actually my best was light cotton wrapped around the vertical coil but very light on the one side.some have good luck with tight cotton. I don't know cotton is very tempermental. What ever you can get to work.

I got bored and did one with ribbon wire. It's about a 1/2" long, 45 angle @ 1.1 ohms. It looks pretty cool and works great.

I built my first dragon coil this morning. Wow. It's a single coil at 1.12 ohms (11 wraps on a "jumbo" paperclip) in an AGI in dripper mode, and its beating the pants off of my nimbus dual micro coil build at .49 ohms. Even the flavor is better, despite having the huge top cap in the AGI. Vapor production is off the charts. I will be experimenting more.

Thanks for the innovation iTeo!

I hear you bro, part of the problem is words aren't always so clear. My tight might be your choke hold you know? :) I should say my wrap is firm but its not like I cranked it down. I think your experience with the cotton getting blown back by the heat is the crux of the issue, finding the right amount of pressure so vaping won't move it is where its at I think.

I'm a huge fan of bamboo yarn, in fact its my favorite wicking material to date. I considered wrapping it up with yarn earlier but forgot about it. Next time.

Here's an experimental ProTank II build. Same principle as the dragon build, except the coil is mounted vertically, making it look more like a "rebuildable cartomizer". Breath like a dragon, so I guess she's qualifies as a dragon PT2 :)

Coil is 1.7Ω (30ga kanthal, 8wraps on 1/16 drill bit). Cotton wick wrapped around the entire coil body. [Click the images for bigger pics]

Excellent!! My buddy has this exact same set up with the vamo and protank 2. I just happen to have 30 ga kanthal as well. We rebuilt his tank for the first time a couple of nights ago, but I went the standard route. Was waiting on someone to post a build like this. Nice job! I will definitely try this when he comes back for a rebuild.

How's it hit? :D
