It is all sun here, all the time, Cindycated. Most veggies prefer at least 8 hours of sun, per day. More is okay.

Tomatoes prefer afternoon shade, if they can get it.

Many veggies benefit from late afternoon shade in a hot climate.

We use drip tape which dispenses water every 8 inches. We do not vary the amount per plant. I have experimented with putting drip tape on both sides of the carrots and potatoes last year. That has worked well. I put the two tapes about 8 inches apart. Most of the veggies don't need the two tapes but I noticed potatoes won't grow into dry soil so the two tapes worked great. I had some enormous potatoes last year and lots of them.

Cindycated, you can come here anytime.

We only eat fresh or frozen veggies - some we grow - some we buy. There is a pick and pay here that charges $10 for a 5 gal bucket of veggies - great deal - we pick a lot when they are open and in season- then we jar and fill up the freezer to use during the year...

Good for you, Semi. I do lots of freezing here. I never learned how to can and with only two of us, freezing seems to work out fine for small portions.

You'll find the weeds will grow even under the black plastic. I've had them grow under landscape cloth covered with six inches of licorice root mulch (black mulch).

We can tomato sauce but have also frozen it. I want to try freezing squash this year and am hoping to have enough broccoli to freeze that as well. Green beans, pole or bush, freeze well. The blanching and cutting can get to be a project though. We use one of those vacuum sealers and seal them in meal sized packs.

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

Any more trouble from Harry the Woodpecker, Raven?

Cindycated, do mechs have variable voltage? The one I saw didn't.

Hope everyone is outside playing in the sun, seeding, planting, planning a garden:) Okay, maybe taking a walk or just sitting in the sunshine are acceptable as well:)

Mechs, by definition, do not have variable voltage or wattage. They are all mechanical. However, you can buy a kick, which is inserted in the tube next to the base of the pin, which can deliver variable wattage. You do need to open the device to adjust it, but that is no problem for me, as I generally vape at 10W.

Interesting. I love variable voltage/wattage so if I got a mech it would need to be with a kick:)

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
If you match the coil resistance to your taste no kick is needed.
Kick is a crap anyway.

Edit.

Watering the jiffy pots from underneath seems to be good, takes a lot of water and they keep moist for longer during the day Lizzie.
I'm not sure however how much the pots will hold.

@ "Lizzie", "Raven", and "Trit" - All Your Pictures are really GREAT ! ! ! Can't wait to see the next batch and what Ya' all have been up to recently . . .

@ "SandySu" - While I know that nothing will ever replace the time "You" Shared with "Penny" - I really hope that "You" can find another outlet and especially enjoy the company of "Your" Friend's horses . . . :D

For me, it would be a purely budgetary need to grow my own food. I simply can't afford to buy the food that I like to eat (like blueberries, fresh basil, good tomatoes that weren't nuked in the truck,...). :(

Ever thought of starting a Window or Container Garden, especially to grow Basil/Tomatoes and so many other items . . . I actually have Friends in NYC that grow Tomatoes, Peppers, Squash, and Herbs on their Fire Escapes and in their Kitchen (using Grow Lights) . . . Seems easy enough to do - Here is some info to start off with: How to Grow Container Vegetables - Gardening Tips and Advice, Seeds and Plants at Burpee.com - Burpee.com . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

NOW - Just An FYI:

Especially for anyone not subscribed to the threads about the change over . . .

Well - It seems ECF Administration is now re-thinking the start of the change over and how long it is going to take - Read Here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/forum-how-tos/666330-xen-foro-tips-tricks-4.html#post15633631 and here too: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/forum-how-tos/666330-xen-foro-tips-tricks-4.html#post15633917

It'll be whatever it works out to. My experience with migrations was that an estimate of 24 hours turned into a reality of 72 hours, then a lot of clean-up for the next week or two. I don't envy their task, at all. I think I'd rather have a tooth drilled, without Novocain.

Sandy, a little behind here - so sorry for your loss.

Could grooming be an avenue for a part-time job, maybe? That might be a nice alternative to owning another one...

See? That's why I can never have pets. Just too heartbreaking.

True, but they are sooo worth it while they are with us.

I took three 78mm autos apart using a CE3 base and a pair of needle nose. I do want the ASIC to control voltage delivered to the CE3 so that's no problem. The biggest problem is how to safely attach a cable to the 78mm body and still control air flow. I may hang a fuse on the battery just to be safe.

I was outside, weeding, and watched the better part of three quarters of a billion, that's billion with a "B", fly by. Three C-17s came in from the north and turned east, basically, right over our house, on final approach into McGuire AFB. Their altitude was probably about 2000 feet or so. Of course, the camera was in the house and my hands were really dirty anyway. It was amazing how closely spaced they were, maybe a half mile apart. At the speed they have to land at, probably around 150mph, that seems kind of close. Awesome sight, though. We hear them when they take off if the wind is out of the east and can feel them most of the time when as well, lots of power going on there. If there's an open house at Joint Base MDL this year, I want to visit and see our tax dollars on the ground and climb around in them. I was there, years ago, and sat in the pilots seat of a C5. You can't see anything on the ground in front of the plane closer than about 100 feet or more. That must be fun to taxi around with!

Sandy, maybe the therapy of grooming another horse will help sooth you. I hope so.

We used to hear jets fly over here regularly. Low and loud! Always two at a time. For some reason, they don't do that anymore. Maybe because they're all overseas.

Cindycated would just use a mech.

Yep. Me too. nodding.gif

Roland the Tilemahos is a tank device (3ml).

True, the CE3 will blow up, but since the resistances are high on those devices i doubt it will ever happen. Tilemahos runs at 1,5 - 1 - 0.5Ω usually.

I don't like dripping too, too much work when on the move.

Don't like dripping either. And I really can't understand the love affair that so many have with them. :?:

It is almost noon and I finally finished the North and the Northwest irrigation zones setup. That took me all morning!

I moved the irrigation manifolds to inside the veggie garden and away from the faucet using a 15 foot irrigation pipe that Hubby glued hose ends onto. A three way manifold went onto that.

Then, a heavy duty filter and a heavy duty pressure regulator that can take being under constant pressure on the right hand manifold valve.

From there I put on a double manifold. Both zones got their own timer.

I then had to run the 3/4 inch tubing across the field to the NW zone. I used a T to tie the old system on that side into the new line. I cut off the old line where used to tie in to the system and closed it.

I ran 1/2 tubing with built in drippers behind the long shed and greenhouse. No more individual drippers on teensey weensey 1/4 inch lines. So much more efficient and easier to maintain.

I still had to run a new 3/4 inch line to the North Zone and T it into the old system. Then, I cut off that line where it used to run to the old manifold and closed off the old line where it used to start at.

I am so ready for lunch and a nap on the couch.

Then, I can finally finish hooking up the veggie garden onto the left manifold valve.

The garden hose will go in the center manifold valve. Then, I'm done!!!!!

Speaking of "Master Garderner" !!

Cindy, with the drip systems you can install a head that matches the needs of each plant. I use 1gph heads for tomatoes and such and either 3gpm or variable rate heads for cukes, squash and the blueberries. I think Lizzie's garden gets plenty of sun, everywhere, LOL. Even with a drip system the gph rate can get high for a layout the size Lizzie is using. That would mean a major investment in solar panels to run a big enough pump.

Heck, 3ml isn't a tank, that's a clearo! My favorites are the Erlkonigin (clone) at 6ml and the Big Fogger at 10ml.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll have some time to fool around in the basement and see what I can do for a "super cig-a-like auto" system.

Sooo ... you're gonna be able to use an automatic powered by a 18650 HANDS FREE? Must have some strong chompers! biting.gif

Henry, the woodpecker has decided that the good-looking fellow in the window is an equal match and unbeatable. He's given up. Thank goodness!!

I've been busy doing some spring cleaning and organizing. In fact, I had a gallon sized zip lock baggie full of "Vape Laundry" that I finally tackled. It was full of old tanks and bottles that needed to be cleaned, and heads that needed to be rebuilt. I'll bet that I literally rebuilt fifty T4, Evod, and Protank heads over the last couple of days. Never, NEVER, designate a bag as "Vape Laundry". It enables one to put off what must be tackled eventually. Most of the stuff I put away for storage since I rarely use the Protanks or Vivi Novas anymore, but I still use T4's on my Leos. I want to keep this stuff in case of Vape Armageddon, but was too lazy to clean it on the fly.

Guess we may be stuck going through ECF withdrawal for a bit.

Oh - by the way - apparently, I'm being sued by the IRS. 8-o That's what the mechanical lady on the telephone told me after she said that they'd tried repeatedly to get ahold of me. She said that if I didn't call back and pay my outstanding balance immediately that they would be forced to arrest me. :?:

Of course - I have no outstanding balance and it was all a scam. I was extremely angry ( yes, me - I actually got angry ) because I was thinking of all of the people that would be fooled or confused and frightened by such an evil con. Sometimes I am ashamed of my fellow human beings.

The IRS is well aware of the scam:

The IRS always contacts by mail, never by phone. The scams are really getting out of hand, both phone and online. I think drawing and quartering a few would slow it down a bit, but that isn't a politically correct way to handle things, I guess.

The 18650 will be a remote mount, Rave. My jaw ain't that strong, LOL. I have a mug that gets my "vape laundry". The funny part of it is that I've stopped using the stuff that's in that mug, but I cleaned it all up anyway.

Being close to McGuire AFB we see a lot of military air traffic. It's usually transports and refuelers, but every now and then a few fighters will go by. I enjoy watching them and they do a lot of "touch and go" for practice and training I guess because the same plane might make ten or twenty passes.

My day went to heck in a hand basket. I got up a little late and had just finished breakfast when FedX stopped by. I couldn't figure out what they were delivering, then remembered what I had ordered. It was a cellular blind. That quickly turned into a three hour frustration and a replacement is being sent. I'll leave it at that, but my activities in the basement suffered as a result. I never did get to fool with my "super auto". Maybe Monday, when it's supposed to rain again.

Ahh - "the best laid plans". Sorry you didn't get to work on your "super auto". Why is it always so hard to get to do the things that we wanna do? :?:

Scams just irk me. I am so tired of bogus phone calls.

I thought I would post my irrigation victory before ECF implodes and comes back as a new entity. Hopefully, the same crew will be here.

http://
.
I had all the hose manifolds and hoses and irrigations stuff all piled near the faucet. The irrigation line ran in front of the gate to the back. Not a convenient spot. Then, the irrigation had a "Y" that had different valves to turn off an don to water two different zones. Very inconvenient.

http://

Now I have one manifold by the faucet with two hoses on it and my irrigation system. Much neater and tidier.

http://

The irrigation manifold has a shorty high pressure hose that is hooked onto a fifteen foot irrigation pipe. It goes through the garden fence and the garden hedge.

http://

The other end of the pipe, inside the veggie garden. The irrigation pipe has a manifold attached to split it into tree water and veggie water. Each of those has a filter and pressure regulator then a splitter manifold with a timer on each line.

http://

The new lines for the tree irrigation go down the pathway and then the Northwest Zone takes a right, crosses the driveway and goes between the wood shed and the long shed.

http://

Finally, the new line heads through the east side of the veggie garden fence and across the desert about 150' where it Tees into the existing line.

Now all the zones have their own timer and no more making sure I turn the valves properly to water both zones on separate nights.:)

The End.
