Although I never attended an event, I believe the main point would be to have fun and socialize. It's kind of like seeing a culture carrying out different traditions compared to your own. It's great that we have this diversity of vapers, as long as everyone is safe.

As another member pointed out, with no vape enthusiasts we wouldn't have as much innovation in the vape hardware. I feel that these enthusiasts are the ones to come up with new ideas for gear, what build to put in your gear, and partially responsible for new B&M shops.

I have nothing against it but it's mostly the b&m who get to sell you the newest atty, mod, and All the newest stuff it gets people in there doors and makes sales.back in my teens I competed in db drags"sound system competitions"they were always at a shop pushing you to buy this or that to get a "edege" and almost that one somebody who the store gave him a winning setup.its just business.

I have quite a bit of fun getting silly and blowing huge clouds every once in awhile, sometimes in public. I'm getting too old to give a crap about what anyone else thinks and I don't think the FDA really cares about the volume we exhale.
Let some nonsense into your life. It keeps you centered. If nothing else, minding your own business always helps.

I do the same, not a cloud chaser by any means but every once in awhile 100% VG on a low ohm build makes the kid in me lol.

Lol, I apologized for that comment but since you seem to be offended by everything I said I will apologize to you too, sorry. My whole rant is the fact that there is a competition to begin with. I mean, don't you have anything better to do? I know if I told my wife that I had to build the best coil ever so I could go to the local b&m to have a "cloud competition" with some kids, forget what she would say or do, you realize how ridiculous that sounds? Hey man, you wanna go hang out and do yadayadayada. Nah man, I got a cloud comp that I have been preparing all week for. .... But then again, to each his own right?

I get offended when people rant about something that doesn't even bother them to begin with. It's like you have to bash something just to bash it. If people have fun doing it, why complain about it? It's legal, non-harming, comrade building fun for some. These "kids" who are doing cloud comps could be doing things much worse with life but they are competing as to who can blow the biggest cloud. So what!

I have a local vape shop who holds such competitions. I've attended one - but I didn't join. I learned a lot from people going to these and everyone is so friendly it's unbelievable. Showing off coils and set ups is what makes this hobby fun. It's people who complain like you who shed a bad light on this hobby.

I'm also very big into the car scene (my weekend car is a Mustang). I go to these shows to learn from others and see what others have done so I can gain first hand knowledge of my own and create friendships with people with like interests. These cloud comps serve the same purpose for people big into the hobby.

Just because you have a wife to answer to and have to explain what you're doing, doesn't mean everyone does. I have a wife and child but I still attend events with people that share the same passions as me. I don't care how ridiculous I sound doing my hobbies - I enjoy them! I also LOVE paint balling. I actually have a full blown set up with jersey and all. Do you know how ridiculous I look in full blown paintball jersey and gear? I don't care! I have fun!

It's how you meet amazing people and share ideas.

I just don't get why people complain about things that don't effect them what so ever. Let people have their fun as long as it's harmless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the person who started this thread...LOL nice avatar picture. And I totally agree.

Most of the people you see vaping in these cloud competitions, super low sub ohm setups looks like kids who never spent many years of smoking real cigarettes. I guess it's the new trendy, cool or how I see it (nerdy) thing to do for high school kids.

On the other hand, I'm always looking for the next best vape gear. Just like how I have an addiction for having ridiculously powerful computer hardware and constantly buying new hardware that I don't need. I always want something better than what I've got. Vaping has turned into a bigger addiction than cigatettes ever was for me, and I smoked for about 21 years. I traded cigarette addiction for shiny metal tube addiction.:p

Just an observation. It was at a cloud blowing contest during the Texas vape meet that one participant's battery exploded. Minor injuries only, but the owner of said mod just walked out. Last I heard nobody knew who it was.
There was damage to the floor and ceiling.

The observation is this: extreme vaping is the most dangerous aspect (extreme, duh)... I can understand both sides.
I only watch extreme sports for the wrecks. With vaping we could see the side of a head blow off...

That's all nice and well but a majority of the people did not start vaping as a hobby but a way to get off the analogs. Enjoy your hobby, I am happy I do not depend on analogs anymore. Funny, I paintball also but that is more a sport then expelling vapor out your lungs.

My friends and I called that "playing guns" when we were 7, we were just missing the paint. Just saying.

I agree with you there. But my friends and I called that "smoking" when we were 15, we were just missing the vapor. Just saying. Still, more competitive then expelling vapor from your lungs...

I didn't realize that they were mutually exclusive. If I blow big clouds, I am not trying to continue being a non smoker. Or if I am a former smoker, I can not enjoy a cloud.

I smoked for 16 years. I'm just glad I have the lung capacity to blow a cloud to begin with.

Why can't vaping be only a means to an end for some, and more than that to others?? You can choose which category is right for you. Others can do the same.

That's what we called it when I was 15 as well but it all comes down to perception. If your wife is ok with you "playing guns", you should probably lay off those who choose to cloud comp having no other good reason than you don't like it. Again, I have no horse in this race not being a cloud comp person but your over the top frustration with it, especially having no impact on your life what so ever is rather amusing. :)

Since more than one joke has been made, regarding it...and no one else has mentioned it, yet...let me just say, there ARE competitions in the analog world, too. In the pipe community, at least, there are conventions and competitions. The most common one is to see who can keep a pipe going the longest time, with a specific amount of tobacco, and only one match. I'm sure there are other types, too. So yes, there are competitions in the smoking world, not surprised they've come to be in the vaping world, too.

Vape on,

If it can be done it's a contest look at the Guinness Book of World Records. I am pretty sure there are plenty of people who think the world's biggest cinnamon roll is a joke but the kicker is do they rant about it on a forum? :)
