So what's the worse case scenario date? For stocking up on nic
I don't think it's possible to answer that with a substantial degree of confidence. There aren't that many vendors for it, and I'm sure if the FDA were so inclined, they could find some excuse to shut them down, or at the very least, shut down their sales to end-users like us. In fact, I'm mildly (but pleasantly) surprised that they haven't already.

The hard part? Justifying it to my wife.
I never had to justify anything to mine. She's a lifetime non-smoker and put up with me smoking for more than 30 years. She really doesn't want me going back to smoking, but she also doesn't want to deal with the Mr. Hyde side of me that she met during a few quit attempts before vaping. So when the Deeming Regs were propose back in April of 2014, she told me: "Make absolutely sure you have enough stuff to vape for the rest your life before those idiots make it difficult to get."

Wanna trade wives for a day? Lol.

I'm a man, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

I'm actually surprised at how easy it is to order nic. I was expecting to have to sign for it on delivery but they just leave it on my porch
For now no one knows the date when they crack down but it will come.

And that's a good reason to stock up now. If it really does become burdensome and/or expensive to obtain, you've already got it. If everything somehow remains easily available, it's just one thing you won't have to worry about reordering for a decade or two.;)

Yep, stock up like yesterday. Nic is the most critical and vulnerable link in the chain.

My recommendation, get 100mg in PG by the liter and store them in the freezer. I've got 4 1/2 liters in mine, enough to last me decades, well beyond my lifetime.

Contest Winner!
Fortunately, thanks to the RTS Trivia contest I've got about $150 worth of DIY supplies coming.
Congrats on the win! I've gotten 2 different kinds of reg mods and a mech mod from a few contests here. There's no way I'm going to start playing the lottery though..

For me I don't know that 4 1/2 liters would last a lifetime as I vape 18 mg!

Perfect that's what I needed to know! But nic buying could go away any day? Or I have at least 6 months?
The reason we keep saying no one really knows how long is because nic base isn't actually talked about specifically in the regulations. It could just be considered e-liquid, in which case it might have until 8/2018 for the PMTA process. The nearest correlation would be loose cigarette tobacco for RYO cigarettes, which can't be sold without an approved PMTA. However, there have been several instances of the FDA talking about the dangers of highly concentrated nic, so they may take separate action sooner. The really crappy part is that the rules governing the FDA's regulation over tobacco are so broad that in the past they've been able to "regulate" via guidance letters. Basically, they say "we've decided it needs to be this way" and the companies can either comply, or sue.

Again, I don't think it's possible to answer that with any real degree of certainty. :(

If I weren't fully stocked already, I would probably budget however much I was previously spending on cigs to buy nic. That should get you a lifetime supply in 6 months or less. I took more time than that, but I started 3 years ago and finished last May.

No one knows, thus the need to do it like yesterday. I used to get my base from Vape Clarity, very, very good quality nic. They have shut down, they had a fire and the insurance wouldn't pay out. Bummer, was outstanding Nic. I have a couple of liters and a half of 100mg in the freezer from them. I got another couple from My Freedom From Smokes, I heard it was decent so I got a couple liters from them. Another popular brand is Nude Nicotine, I find their nic harsh.

So just go around, check some prices, get some feed back in the DiY sections of ECF and you're good. But IMO having a few liters of 100mg in PG base sitting in your freezer is #1 priority.

I started at 18mg but have settled on 3mg. But when planning for the Vape Apocalypse calculate your need on your current usage.

That, and I control the budget. I've been meticulously tracking our earning vs. spending mainly so I can stock up for the vapepacolypse. But I think if I ever sense she's getting annoyed by my spending, I'll buy her a new ring or something, lol.
Flowers are way cheaper and work almost as well.

But a sticky note that says "I love you" to greet her when she opens her tablet or cellphone?
    Priceless.
    :)

    Having said that, diamonds...

I'm pretty safe for $100 or so right now. Got her a new ring and an Xbox game for Christmas this year. She got me squat. Lol.

I'm scared to think how much nicotine alone I'd need for a decade

    RTS Vapes Nicotine Use Calculator

4 liters is enough for me and one other person to last 15 - 20 years at 2 and 3mg respectively. cheap insurance against the deeming regs. I will probably still end up grabbing at least another liter or 2, maybe 3 or 4, before aug 2018 if it doesn't look like these regs will get struck down.

edit to add: The Juice Calculator by @HotRod19579 has this same type of calculator built in as well.

That part's easy. Just look at how much you would otherwise spend on cigarettes for a year. That same amount will probably cover 10 years of vaping (actually, way less than a year of smokes).

I "invested" about $700ish last year on 5 gallons of 100mg VG nic base between Nicotine River and Heartland Vapes and this will/should last my lifetime or beyond. Before I quit smoking (3 years ago next month), my annual cost of cigarettes was $2600 for buying a carton a week. I smoked a generic brand at $50/carton, gotta love high IL taxes!

My wife wasn't too happy that I dropped a little over $700 in a couple month span stocking up on nic when it was on sale but was easy to justify that I'd now be vaping for less than $2/week DIY vs. $25/week for store bought juice and I have a lifetime supply.

Her anger went down a few notches after that realization, plus she STILL smokes so she really can't say too much about my hobby considering we still spend $2600 a year on her habit, LOL! But she wants no part of vaping, she tried it and didn't care for it.
