A large review compared the effectiveness of methods to quit smoking, with three emerging as clear winners for helping people kick the habit.

The medications varenicline and cytisine, as well as nicotine e-cigarettes proved to be the most successful among the interventions reviewed by a UK team.

Here's a good one.

A 22-year-old man who vaped required a double lung transplant: 'He had no idea how bad it was for him'

The title could just as well have said:

A 22-year-old man who drank coconut milk required a double lung transplant: 'He had no idea how bad it was for him'

Am I the only one that sees a problem with putting cameras in kids bathrooms? Seems like there should be some sort of privacy law involved.
I don't think there were cameras actually inside the bathrooms. There were 2 mechanisms. The detectors alerted staff who could run down there and catch them red handed. And the cameras were set up outside the bathroom doors so they could see who came out after an alert and have them searched.

Seemed like they only snagged a handful of the guilty parties. The worst part is they sometimes impose life changing penalties on the ones they catch. One poor girl lost her school council president position and debating society membership and so forth and was sent to a punishment school for a year. She didn't know they had installed detectors and cameras. Some weren't even allowed to graduate. Guess the plan is to scare the crap out of the rest.

One kid was quoted saying some were reluctant to use the bathrooms because the smell of pot and menthol was so strong, and sometimes they were too crowded with vapers. Back in the good old days us smokers went outside to indulge our vile habit. Sometimes teachers were out there in the same place smoking themselves and all they administered was dirty looks.

IMO, that constitutes excessive punishment for the "crime" of using nicotine.

At my high school, back in the mid 1970s, thick smoke would often roll out of the bathroom door when it was opened, and the teacher's lounge was just as bad, if not worse. Me, I didn't start smoking until college, but my parents smoked, so I was used to it, and it didn't bother me much.

We had a smoking area outside at our school. You walked outside across a driveway on the side of the building and everyone stood there and smoked. I don’t know if that’s still allowed there but kind of doubt it.

WOW! Are you kidding me? That is gross on so many levels. If I were a parent of this school I’d be outraged and demand they need to be removed asap.

Yeah, teachers smoked in their lounge. There was one teacher with Parkinsons, he was allowed to smoke in the classroom. He had a special dispensation because he couldn't function without a cig in his mouth.

Perhaps a bit more emphasis and concern over the education would be appreciated and beneficial.

THAT horse isn't only out of the barn (sadly)....

This says it all. For context it's just blather from the comments page of the Telegraph (a fringey UK newspaper) but it was too funny to pass up.

"Some things you just know. You know them intrinsically, implicitly and irrefutably – even if you’re still waiting for proof."

Trump Won anyone? But no, it is of course about vaping. It goes on:

"Take vaping. Any day now, the scientists are going to tell us that sticking a metal tube – charged from your laptop – into your mouth and inhaling some sinister e-potion made up of nicotine, propylene glycol (used to make antifreeze and paint solvent), acetaldehyde and formaldehyde (embalming fluid) is A Very Bad Idea."

There's more if you're bored and need a laugh.

Gosh, is it any wonder that people don't trust the media anymore?

To be fair that one was just a letter in the comments page. But there was nothing in it that hasn't been published in regular media.

Guess it's possible to figure what's true if you're willing to invest the time and effort, and you aren't terminally locked into a belief system and a chosen set of media outlets. Like my news source always tells the truth and the other news sources always lie. That's where a lot of us are these days.

The smallish number of folks I've talked to about vaping are mostly sure it's just like that letter said. Even one lady up the block who was desperate to quit smoking after a medical diagnosis. I tried to explain but she already knew the truth about vaping.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I see no evidence that the majority distrust the media. In fact, I see the exact opposite, which is why things that should not be demonized are demonized (and I'll leave that right there).

The govt-media complex is real, effective and powerful because "they" know the majority is largely made of sheep. Vaping in US media (and therefore perception in the public eye) is proof of that. Nothing new, though. That's the way things have been for quite a long time all over the world. Most people like to believe in an all-knowing and trustworthy source of info more than ever before and do not want to think for themselves. Understandable, because it's the easiest way to live. But nauseating and dangerous nonetheless.

I just now learned of Nixodine. Didn't do much reading on it but it's a chemical derived from Vitamin B (or something like that) which mimics nicotine as it hits on the same receptors, but it's not tobacco, nicotine nor is it synthetic nic.

Vape vendors (who are largely clueless when it comes to legalities surrounding vape IME) say it will be THE way around regulations, at least until slow poke uncle sam can get around to regulating it.

I'm not 100% sure about that since metal, glass, plastic and 0 nic juice has been deemed "tobacco" merely on intent of use/marketing. Nonetheless I hear some vape shops in the USA are ditching nic juices for Nixodine juices for the past 6 months or so.

I think it's dead in the water for reason mentioned above. Admittedly, I'm also detached from it since I don't need it.
