I read it completely this time, and wow. I mean, who even says this stuff, and really believes in it? Really, George?
"vaping should be significantly discouraged with a large tax, not just 86%."
Who, really, actually thinks that 86% isn't a large tax?
Whether about vaping, or anything else...sometimes, I'm really glad I'm pretty old. Sad, scary stuff.

Maybe smokes should be taxed at 100% and vapes at the standard state and federal rate.

People who put dangerous additives into their DIY vape are experimenting on their own. You can't stop Stupid by taxing it.

If there is anything good that comes out of this story it's that those in the vaping community can now see just how dishonest the American news media is. They don't lie and mislead only on vaping stories. They lie and mislead on just about everything.

There is an Old Say'n that "If there is a Problem at the Circus, Don't Yell at the Clowns. Yell at the Ringleader."

The Mass Hysteria that the Media has Created over people getting sick from using Tainted Tango Hotel Charlie carts is a Good Example.

Where, in All this FUD and Mob Mentality, has been the FDA and CDC stepping up to hold an Adult Press Conference saying that we should Pump the Brakes before the Media blows things out of perspective?

That Millions of People all over the World have used e-Cigarettes for over a Decade, and if there was a Systemic Problem, we would have seen it.

And that there was an Apparent Commonality to those that have become Ill. And that was that they were using which had Tango Hotel Charlie added to it.

:tumble:

I Don't expect the Media to give a Damn about Public Health. Their Job is to Make Money and to Promote One-Sided Agendas. But Isn't it the Role of the FDA/CDC to be the Purveyors of Scientific Truth.

By the FDA/CDC inaction's, haven't they been Complicit to all the Misinformation and Deception the Mainstream Media has been Spreading?

I Don't Expect the FDA or CDC to come out and Actually Endorse e-Cigarettes as Viable Harm Reduction for Adults. That Can't come until the Federal Taxes are in place.

But Doesn't the FDA/CDC, at the very least, have a Responsibility to hit the Public with the Facts once and awhile?

Yes, to me, the bigger culprits here are the FDA, the CDC, and various underinformed/biased medical professionals. The reporting has simply repeated what the so-called experts have said. Sure, reporters could/should have delved more deeply into the background of their stories, but they didn't cherry-pick the more sensational bits from well-rounded, unbiased announcements; their sources, which in a better world would be fact-based and unbiased, have deliberately skewed the story to further an agenda.

It's sad how people believe the hype that appears in the media and the general conversations of the uninformed public. Repeat it enough and the public accepts it as fact. Few actually do the reading required to verify what they hear.
True enough! But if the media were honest from the get go we wouldn't feel compelled to have to do further reading. But yes, it is very sad so many believe what they hear and read from the news media. Or they simply want someone to tell them what they wish were true.

When I watch too much news I know it. I have this feeling of, "Is anything real? Do the people reporting the news actually believe what they are saying?" It kind of reminds me when I'm on a fishing boat all day. Even after I dock it and walk on land I feel like I'm still in the boat for the next few hours. Must have something to do with interacting with bottom feeders.

I know when I'm watching enough news, and that would be when I watch none.

I used to listen to NPR in the car, and then realized their cycle was, "natural emergency." "Hateful political stuff," "We are all going to die because Mankind did something dumb." "That awful woman, Dianne something who needs to get off the news already because she has to get TREATMENTS to talk and she sounds like she is made of badly bent vinyl, usually going for controversy she knows little about", "back to death of humanity by ANOTHER terrible cause," "Book review, usually pretentious," "FUNDING DRIVE."

It got to be like my favorite times were the funding drives, so I was like "I should stop."

My life has improved about 500%.

Seriously the only good thing to come from NPR was Ira Glass, and every woman in my family would give ANYTHING to meet him, and EVERYTHING to "meet" him. Despite that I hear he's like built like an adolescent anorexic.

But he's an anomaly dude. Every news station has to have SOMETHING good.

Also I want to kick Garrison Keiler in the nuts. It is this UNBRIDLED sensation every time I heard his show (is he dead? Please let him be dead) and was like THIS IS BORING AND ALSO MAKES ME ANGRY AS HELL all at the same time. LOL.

I know. It's so hard to let your feelings out sometimes. JESUS! I must mix. Okay. Ten minutes.

No one disputes my analysis of NPR I note.

It should be National Pooping Ridiculously.

Our tax dollars go for that AND THEY CONSTANTLY BEG AND BEG AND BEG FOR MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I do not want your keychain, mug, CD of "Driveway Moments' WUH???????????

It's the government alright. The government seriously thinks I sit in my car to finish listening to their propaganda. Okay.

It's my mom's fault it was either that or freaking classical music all the time I was gonna be "A VIOLINIST" (big letters hers) so it was "good for me." I did not become "A VIOLINIST" or even a lower case one but me and NPR have been together for a while.

I let MY kid play RAP in the car and did so from a young age, because HE liked it. There were times I was like, "Kid you got to turn that down I am going to crash." Etc.

Whenever I want to make my kid mad I say that Green Day invented rap. Even to this day when I say it, I can tell he wants to smack me down. Heh.

Unlikely. I remember listening to it circa 1990, when USSR was dissolving (which truly fascinated me), only because it was about the only news on the radio at the time. When other coverage came on there, I think that's when I started realizing how conservative I am. Any attempt to listen to them after that got progressively worse by the decade. More effective than ipecac.

Michigan becomes first state to ban flavored e-cigarettes

Flavor bans won't work, IMHO. May cause more problems if kids flavor it with non-standard flavorings. Vanilla Extract here we go. Groan.]

Some things most of us know but makes a good answer to others asking us questions.

Some people want an ejuice that tastes exactly like their brand of cigarettes (something that is impossible due to the difference between burning tobacco and creating vapor. But we can get close.) If this is acceptable to the vaper, there's a good chance they'll quit smoking.

Other people want ejuice that tastes nothing like cigarettes, in order to get as far away from anything that reminds them of cigarettes. They enjoy the vapor, find a flavor and that satisfies them. Also a good chance they'll quit smoking.

Kids who have experimented with smoking, haven't had the time and experience to develop that 'taste' needed in the first case above. Kids who haven't experimented with cigarettes, don't have that 'need' at all, but may like certain other flavors.

I don't believe vaping is a gateway to smoking. (it's a gateway from smoking). But, if the only flavor available for vaping is tobacco (or menthol tobacco), then if vaping is banned or severely restricted, then kids who have vaped only tobacco, and have 'acquired' that taste, might very well go to smoking. The transformation from Blueberry Cheesecake to tobacco, would be a much harder sell.

And in other news, senator Dick Durbin has told acting FDA Director to Ban e-cigarettes within ten days or Resign after a third vaping death.
As a non American, is it dumb of me to ask how much say 1 senator has in such things?

He has no more power than any other dick.
And as a non-American, you likely have as much grasp of American politics as at least half the US. Note: 1/2 the American populace is below average intelligence.
