The Wall Street Journal editorial page chimed in on the vaping crisis on Friday the 13th appropriately enough.
They mused how the same politicians and suburban parents can support the legalization of a certain substance, a very large issue in schools, and at the same time go into orbit over vaping. They also threw in the fact that alcohol, also a larger problem in schools, seems to skate by without a call to ban Pinot Noir.
It is behind a paywall, and I am of course paraphrasing since I don't want to violate their copywrite. Nonetheless these do show up on google after a while.
Having said that, after 10 plus years of reading their editorials, rarely does anything change as a result.

They allow us to permalink if we're logged in. I think it may expire after seven days or something though. I thought it was very good.

And if you can't read it, watch Kimberley Strassel in this video--start at 30:40. Posted in another thread by @mightymen :)

WHAT PARENT BUYS THEIR KID AN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE?????

:ohmy: :blink: :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

A parent of a smoking kid? If I had a teenage kid who smoked, I mean, really smoked, I'd probably have them try a vape instead. Honestly.

I was vaping and never even attempted to get the kids to switch. One by one they came, all except for one.

If I had tried, they'd probably all still be smoking. ;)

Oh Gosh, I hate to sound all harm reduction for my KID, the most precious being in my universe but he came to me at 17, said he had started smoking, and would like to vape because it was safer, and a) I genuinely believe he HAD started smoking and b) MUCH of it was MY FAULT. Do you know the stats on kids who smoke who are children of smokers?? It's a fair bit higher, and there are LOTS of reasons for that.

I was not vaping at the time either. I genuinely believed him and I got him a vape. And when he quit VAPING (he still isn't smoking BTW) he guilt gifted me his vapes and then *I* stopped smoking.

I did tell him he would die if a) he passed it around and b) he let his friends mess with it. I don't know if that happened or not but thankfully God protected me or whatever and now we BOTH don't smoke and we can BOTH breathe.

If it weren't for the politics right now, this would be seen as a heartwarming story of how one parent's decision that if harm reduction was good enough for the OVER 18 year olds, perhaps it might not magically be AWFUL for those under the magical age of 18 plus one day.

Wow. You can really tell who are the people who understand hard core addiction or not on this site.

Because now there are two less smokers in the world and one of them doesn't even VAPE anymore.

Yeah, that turned out awful didn't it.

...... might have been a different story but thank the yellow brick road I didn't have to send him off to Costa Rica as a minor for some Ibogaine therapy. I would have. It works. ALSO something illegal in the US.

The USA HATES harm reduction methods that work that do not tie you to crime, early death, all that. I have said it before. The USA believes that if you carry the addiction gene, you should be killed, slowly, painfully and at your OWN expense or maintained on "maintenance drugs" that are worse for you than the actual substance, had said addict had access to said substance in CLEAN form plus CLEAN needles.

I wish I were the head of the FDA.

Hypocrisy of the highest order if you ask me. I know you didn't but--- fortunately I get to run my own house.

You!!!!

OK, I know they are adults. But...

edit: should have read the next posts.

When my youngest started, he was 23, and did it all on his own. In fact, he called to tell me he was buying a BuzzPro to START with, while I was still using a GoGo. At that point (about three months into my vape), I was still deciding between a Buzz, Provi, or a Darwin.

The others were around 30.

So, well, yeah...(YOU know). I was referring specifically to KIDS, not biological/adopted/inherited children.

Can we still say, "Kids"? I've totally lost track of which words we can or can't use.
