We'll see what this is. I'm not sure any legislation will be a solution to the self-serving notion of a "vaping epidemic". And the kiddies will just vape tobacco flavors in pods if they can. But meh, this might be better than where it all started, not that I should settle for intrusive useless feels-good regulation.

It does sound like vape shops survive, and if so, that's a win at least. For now. And they card.

Well, we here on ecf would survive that bullet but we have an atomic bomb dropping on us in May and that was always what scared me most.

I think of that scene all too often.
Lmao

About a month ago I was contemplating buying a new printer. Saw this one model that interested me but I always like hopping on You Tube to see a few reviews before I pull the trigger. First one I watch is this guy who took this printer out to his backyard and proceeded to smash it to smithereens with an axe. I scratched that one from my list.

"The Food and Drug Administration plans to ban the sale of fruity flavors in cartridge-based e-cigarettes, but the restriction won’t apply to tank vaping systems commonly found at vape shops, according to people familiar with the matter."
Semi win, but I do see the pod systems win over adult smokers also. As stated many times temporary reprieve though.

Very (temporary).

Strange days, indeed.

No I don't. They are not the only ones doing this crap. And they are not doing this for free. It's not the occasional slip. It's constant. That's the biggest reason I don't bother with most of these organizations. Again
THAT IS MY PERSONAL OPINION.
Don't get me wrong. The people that are doing the work deserve to be paid but don't lead people to believe it's being done for free. If CASAA is doing this for free then they don't need donations right? I'm not saying don't give money to them and I'm not saying they're not doing some good.
Sounds to me like you are just looking for someone to blame and CAASA is a convenient target, Jesus get over it already, they do the best they can with the resources they have available

Well, they tried to thread the needle on that one. Kinda nasty after the response from save the kids that as long as menthol is out there, kids will use them (really? why?) they had to work in "younger people are using open tank juice too" in their statement. But it is something. If only it served to influence events come May, then it might be meaningful.

Listening to Trump lately I think he's getting it now. I couldn't say that until recently. I think he got himself educated on the subject and has finally seen the benefits of vaping (despite getting bad advice from his close advisors). He has been pointing out the two major advantages. The economics and health benefits of vaping. The latter more recently. I think he personally detests drinking and smoking and probably lumps vaping in with it. At the same time, he's practical about it. Have to remember this is the guy who wrote an executive order for terminally ill patients the right to try unapproved remedies. Vaping, in my mind, falls in this category. The only remaining question is what will his reaction be toward the May Deeming deadline. I'm not particularly clear as to what he can do about it...if anything.

I think he was more worried about votes/re-election than anything else. Trump does not strike me as someone overly concerned with other people's health as far as keeping people off of cigarettes.

As far as deeming goes, he can just blame it on the FDA, even though he appointed the main dude.

I disagree on both counts. As I pointed out, he signed an executive order giving the terminally ill the right to try unapproved medications. Seems that is an act of caring. He had a brother die from alcoholism. He understands the scourge of addiction. And yes, votes matter as well...as it should.

As for the Deeming, he did not appoint the "main dude". That was done in the previous administration. In fact, Trump's "main dude" (Gottlieb) actually extended the deadline by four years. Had Trump's "main dude" not extended it, the vape industry would have dried up two years ago. Very typical of politicians. Enact laws and regs that don't go into effect until after you're out of office. Let the next guy deal with the fallout.

Politics will make or break someone. My Father was in local government and was as straight as an arrow and believed what is good for the goose is good for the gander. He was constantly squashed but they couldn't get rid of him for years. Back room deals were the norm and growing up I got to overhear about a lot of them. Finally he had enough and resigned and that is the only time I ever heard him curse my whole life. One of my Senators was a good man back in the day, even had me stop working on his house remodel and have Thanksgiving dinner with them when he was Secretary of State. But after getting in the House then Senate I could see the changes and he is as far as I can tell a typical politician now. Ashcroft is another like my Father and they were good friends. DC puked him out and there is a lot of nasty that isn't told about his reasons for resigning as US Attorney General.

So what does this have to do with the Deeming conversation? It's the political machine that we are fighting, not necessarily individuals and I think a lot of us forget that. It will roll over those that have opposing views. If not today, eventually.
