I mentioned on another thread, I wonder who is getting sick and dying from losing their job, healthcare and everything from chronic persistent illness. A lot of folks are having it happen, and I would love a graph of who stopped chemo, dialysis everything. And if that person already HAD COVID survived and died, well it would be counted as a win for the pandemic, not a lose for the life we had. At one point.

Not to mention the suicide rate increase, starvation or health related issues with the homeless & poor. There’s also the increase of domestic violence to think about, with abusive people having to stay home all the time with their families.

Would you rather lose your job or risk getting coronavirus? Depends on who you are but I suspect given that choice many would pick the latter. Gotta eat.
Its the choice I made.

Wasnt happy about it, but if I didnt return to work when my employer called me back, then no unemployment, ergo no income, and not many folks are hiring right now.

There is a pretty good chance that I will not die from the virus, but there is a 100% chance that life would get extremely difficult without income.

If we Don't get the US Economy going Very Soon, even with the Full Knowledge that more people will get Sick, there Isn't going to be much left for the 97% who Don't get Sick and Die.

And we are Destine to Return to 1918 Social and Economic Levels.

Deluge Continues: 26 Million Jobs Lost In Just 5 Weeks

The company I work for is expecting poor sales for the rest of the year. Our main customers are shut down now, but even when they can reopen, indications are they are going to put off new spending. They just laid off 175 until July as a result. I'm still working, but with reduced hours.

Plus after so long there will be no money for some hospitals/clinics/care centers/gov. EMS etc.

FDA Rejects Subcommittee’s Call to Temporarily [bull:censored:] Remove E-Cigarettes Despite Potential Risks to Coronavirus Patients

Source: https://oversight.house.gov/news/press-releases/fda-rejects-subcommittee-s-call-to-temporarily-remove-e-cigarettes-despite

Right. Facts be damned. Potential risks my ...

Clinical Characteristics, Comorbidities, and Outcomes Among Patients With COVID-19 Hospitalized in the NYC Area

"Findings In this case series that included 5700 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the New York City area, the most common comorbidities were hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. "

Maybe the FDA should look into Nancy's freezer instead and leave vapers alone? Ban ice cream? ;)

The hospital group my wife works for laid off about 2500 people Tuesday, but she wasn't one of them. Even though times would be tougher and a return to the job would be uncertain, I kind of wished she could have been out of that environment for a couple months. We've been through tough times and are pretty frugal, so we'd be OK. I'd prefer having her around if given the choice. At least most days.:D

I've been hearing about this happening all around the country. People thought that hospitals would be busy and that hospital workers would be safe from unemployment. But the problem is...
  • Corona cases aren't as widespread as they thought
  • surgeries and other procedures have been canceled (less revenue coming in because of that)
  • Less accidents due people not driving as much or not working or leaving the house as much - therefore less work for the nurses/doctors (which is why car insurance rates are falling and they are giving discounts).
All this leads workers being laid off.

It's a crazy situation.

I heard that transplants are not even being done. I have no idea if this is true. If it is, I'd hate to be someone looking for a life-saving organ transplant. What terrible news for them.

My dad had radiofrequency ablation of colon cancer metastatic to his liver this week, but that's not considered an elective procedure. Cancer doesn't stop growing due to the coronavirus. However the hospital wouldn't let my mother in to wait on him. She had to wait all day in the car.

Not only would I choose my job to eat, I would choose my job to assist in overcoming the fools who suggested the economic catastrophe in the first place.

First they came for the vapers…

(And here we thought it was all just about e-cigarettes.)

"but we as adults don't want to lose our
rights our freedoms our civil liberties
and our abilities to use a product that
    we enjoy."

    Good luck. :)

Brusardo still doesn't get it though either. The CDC and WHO see nothing any clearer now than they've ever seen it. This has never been about health or teen epidemics. It is now and has always been about power and money. 2 sides of the same coin.

The minute that vaping was framed in terms of a quasi medical smoking cessation method, it landed squarely in the crosshairs of those in power who stand to lose vast astronomical piles of money if it delivers on it's promise.

If it had been promoted as an adult "vice", just like smoking and alcohol or even junk food, it would have been treated just like smoking and alcohol or even junk food.

Vaping was banned decades before there was even such a thing as vaping because looooong before vaping became a thing, the citizens of this country surrendered the very rights that Brusardo mentions.

    Why?

Because they blindly trusted that the blood sucking power mongering parasites they vote into office actually care about them and their children.

Ironically, and in ways that are personally surprising to me, Donald Trump may be at least somewhat of an exception because he is not a career politician. He thinks like a private sector businessman and actually has a sense that what he does as president he will one day soon have to live under as a once again private businessman. Yes, he clearly loves the power and position, but being president, a politician, does not define his life like it does the rest of these people.
