I also adore the statistics, "reports of nicotine poisonings in children have increased eleventy billion percent since 2010" or something like that. It's like saying "airplane crashes increased 8 bazillion percent from 1902 to 1912".

Also, they never mention what happened with these 'reports'. How many calls were just grandma freaking out because the kid came within 2 feet of an ecig, or a kid got a little liquid on his hand and mama washed it off then panicked for no good reason and called poison control? How many actually had any sort of detectable outcome of any kind?

It is vital that we keep these deadly products away from the children.

We should immediately ban cosmetics and personal care products. At a minimum, require that manufacturers of these products immediately submit a Pre-Market Cosmetics Application (PMCA) to the FDA with evidence that proves said cosmetic will not be appealing to children.

They have 2 years, and if not approved, the cosmetic will be pulled from the market and subject to FDA enforcement action.

I'm writing Feinstein and Boxer right now to push for this. They have expressed their stance that children MUST be protected at all costs. Look at those numbers? How can you NOT act to protect the children?!?

One thing that actually HAS reached somewhat epidemic proportions is the detergent pods. There was a push for regulation, but then the industry said they would address the issue, and that's the last that was heard about that.

Right, I was talking about media reports and spun statistics. Also, I'm not implying that it's fine and dandy for kids to be able to get into nicotine. It should definitely be kept out of their reach (like laundry pods, cigarettes, nicotine gum, medications, bleach, ammonia, toilet bowl cleaner, guns, etc...)

Everyone should keep that link in their arsenal to refute those claims of children getting sick from ecigs.

There is a LOT of great information there. I just wish they would update it. The latest Annual Report is 2014. They keep other parts of the site updated but I really like to use the Annual reports as that shows EVERYTHING that's been reported. You get a better sense of where ecigs fall into the spectrum. Which is VERY low.

Numbers are much lower this year. Hopefully this is not on account of people being scared away from vaping, by all the lies, and returning to smoking.

It's too funny that almost every FDA post on their FB page gets hijacked by opponents of the ecig regs. They do get around to deleting them but it's incessant and I like it.

Pretty much all of the numbers reported are just for "calls" as they don't have a reliable way to track followup events. Likely a lot of kids eating peppermint scented hand lotion and the like.

Mine was 91% Bernie Sanders, 85% Jill Stein and 84% John McAfee.

ETA: Thanks nic, I didn't notice their parties. So I'm Democrat, Green and Libertarian. No wonder I didn't know who Jill Stein is. After them, most of the others are all Libertarian.

On this page, the key paragraph being:

I had exposure to diesel exhaust this morning on my way to work. It made me feel nauseous. Had my child been with me, it probably would have had the same effect on her. Should I have called Poison Control and reported this, I wonder?
