The media hated Nixon and that's why Woodward & Bernstein got traction. The media is aligned with tobacco control. The story will never see the the light of day. And believe me, I hope I'm wrong.
Someone posted a chart showing how 6 corporations own 90% of the popular media. Those 6 corporations are run by 6 individuals. Who have decided that there will be a total lock down on anything pro-vape.But what if the narrative changed from "tobacco control" to "citizen control"?

Prove me wrong. Nothing would make me happier.
You're assuming that any of those writers have the ability to write a story that their CEO does not want written. One never knows.
"The media" are companies. Writers work for them. (I'm purposely excluding talking heads from this rant.) While some writers may find working for a media outlet a cushy job where they can paraphrase press releases, just as many, if not more, consider it a gig. It just pays the bills, while they try to write something that impacts the world.

Writers have zero say in what is printed in the popular media. They just write stories. Editors decide what is "fit to print". Those editors print what their CEO's want printed. It all goes back to the consolidation of the media on the hands of a half dozen individuals. They aren't stupid. If they've been writing for a publication they know what flies and what doesn't. That's the time to shop the story. While it doesn't pay well for little fish, freelancing can be rewarding.

Thirty years ago the popular media was owned by a hundred different businesses and back then it was harder to move in lock step. But that is not the case today.
But please, prove me wrong. Find a writer that can get the story across the front page of a major newspaper like the NY Times. Or CNN. There are thousands of writers. Surely some are vapers and see what we clearly see. How hard can it be?
I'm not holding my breath that Sen. Johnson will have a significant impact on the FDA, but I appreciate his questions and common sense. I welcome anything that will get our perspective attention.
The freelancers are going to sell their Story Of The Century to... who? Some fringe publication that has no "public credibility" and no popular readership? To the NY Times? And the story is going to be bought by the same NY Times editors that would stonewall the story from one of it's own writers? They aren't stupid. I'm not sure who is telling who what to do. It could be the tail wagging the dog for all we know. But it doesn't matter because the end result is the same.America is ran by corporations now. So the media is basically the "state sponsored media" They are told what to say and "report" on.
It's gotta get awfully tempting for some editors to say to hell with their sponsors and bosses, and start breaking the story in a big way. Nothing else has been helping with the decline of their industry, and the decline in their stature. Any chance of rogue reporters and rogue editors teaming up?The freelancers are going to sell their Story Of The Century to... who? And the story is going to be bought by the same NY Times editors that would stonewall the story from one of it's own writers?
Good point. The Story of The Century is not about the gov't sponsored mass murder of 32 million smokers. The story is about the media censuring that story.
Good question. But then, who is going to print THAT story??
This should Not be America.........Where Governments, and Big Corporations fight over what to Take away or Tax Next. This is Russian Failure.

I hear you loud and clear but I fear Johnson's rants will only be dismissed as yet more self serving, right-wing, partisan talking points which we hear from both sides every election cycle. I have zero faith in Congress. Out with the lot of 'em.
My advice is for everyone to be on the lookout for the right legal front to support via donations. By the time any politician takes care of this we'll all be sucking on old gym socks taped to flashlights powered by AAA batteries.
Even if corporations control the media, writers still write. Someone somewhere will come up with a new catch phrase then you will see it everywhere. "Nicotine is Poison" is so May.
