Anyone here remember Herman Caine or Ross Perot? The media was fed garbage about both and the public ate it up. I personally think they both wanted to get our country back on track but they folded under pressure.

The media tried its best by printing half truths and down right lies about Donald Trump. He was strong enough to stand up against all of it and in the end......well you all know how that turned out. A lot of us sifted through all the garbage printed about him but chose him anyway.

We all seem to forget that someone with an agenda will do everything they can to get someone blacklisted by using the media. We all seem to be just a heartbeat away from a witch hunt with the media leading the pack.

Seems to me like we should take a step back and stop crucifying Rep. Hunter until more is known. How about we give him a chance to defend himself. I've always thought one was innocent until proven guilty. Those just seem to be empty words to the general public anymore. :(

I don't think it's that simple. Some career politicians are actually in it because they believe in making this country better.
It is my impression that one can only become a career politician by selling out.

I wanted to enter politics.
I wanted to do good.

So if I'm wrong about that, then maybe I will reconsider my decision not to try.
But I don't see how I'm wrong.
:(

Also, like any other job, learning how to do the job takes time. When a person's contract is only 4 years, you may not want them spending the first 3 years learning how things work.
I'm also under the impression that "learning how things work" is the problem.
Because "how things work" is NOT how they SHOULD work.

I don't have any examples, but I have to believe that there are still some good ones out there.

His felt need for re-payment may tell his tale.

They are all "good" until they need campaign contributions. The hand goes out, the devil gently takes that hand and he sweetly says, "Come on in".

The higher up the ladder you look, the less likely you are to find.

Laughs, I wish I could remember the exact quote of John Kennedy but it was to the effect that all politicians sell out, how high you go depends upon how long you wait.

Yes, it may.

I have never had the pleasure/or maybe the curse of having what seems to be unlimited funds at my fingertips. I do hope it does come down to the fact that he allowed his family unsupervised access to the credit cards. I have 2 of them myself. Both look very similar. If I don't pay close attention to what I am doing I could possibly end up using the wrong one. I pay very close attention because I don't have unlimited funds or an accountant that pays the bills. I would be willing to bet that he never even sees the bills and now that he has he is making restitution.

I would like to think if he pays it back we won't all jump to the conclusion that yep, he was guilty. I am sure that the media will paint it that way though no matter what.

We vapers are living proof that one cannot believe what the media feeds us so we tend to dig deeper for the truth. As always, JMHO

Fortunately I've not done it.....yet :) and fortunately I take care of our funds so even if I did it wouldn't be earth shattering :D

The reason I mentioned credit cards is because in the article I read about Rep. Hunter he said that both of his credit cards are blue and very similar. Mistakes can happen if one isn't diligent.

Ours was a business acc, ( ours) but it happened, caught it the following month when statements came. I put the wrong card in the business file, it happens and if you have a 3rd party paying bills it might not be caught as quickly.

Ah Ha, yep, that wouldn't be good. You, me and most of us pay our own bills so can catch a mistake fairly quickly.

You're right Mattiem.
I guess it was such a shock, that I jumped to conclusions without knowing all the facts.
I should know better!
As always, calmer heads will prevail. Hopefully.
If the media doesn't burn him at the stake first.

Thank you @motordude I have always tried to see the good in folks until I am proven wrong. I have had to deal with not being given that same courtesy during my long life and know how it feels to be convicted (no, not in a court room) with no evidence to prove me guilty. Sometimes life isn't fair but it still hasn't clouded my outlook.

Hey Nobody said an Honest Mistake couldn't happen. And pulling the wrong CC out of you wallet to pay for Dinner is just that. But doing it Repeatedly? Over 2 Years? And Racking up $48,000 ~ $60,000 worth of Charges?

Does that Pass the Smell Test?

I find it Not in the Realm of Reality that someone in the Hunter Campaign never approached Rep. Hunter and asked him What's Up with these Personal Charges being charged to that CC ?

Yep, I've done that. Two Amex cards, one personal, one for my business. For a while, they even had the same last four digits, which was a total PITA 'cause there was an on-line vendor with whom I had both on file and they would offer me the choice of paying with the card that ends in 3005 or the other card that ends in 3005.

No it does not. My bookkeeper (who I also sleep with, but that's probably OK since we're married) catches that stuff every single time, as soon as the statements arrive.
